I am a well traveled person however, for all intent and purposes, I am very much a city guy. And being so, have a particular disposition regarding the finer things in life; the little but important conveniences of nicer living. So I would comfortably say that I have high expectations when it comes to accommodations and anything I plan to pay for or during a vacation. So having traveled a great deal, I have experienced a wide spectrum of quality in services and accommodations throughout the world. I am extremely pleased to say that I have never experienced any accommodations quite like the one at the Willow Guest House. In short, it truly felt like I was coming home. My biggest apprehension when it comes to B&Bs is the imbalance most B&Bs have between the business and the home. Either it is too business like with the warmth and homely coziness of The Adams Family or too much home and not enough business which leaves for rather awkward interactions and no sense of privacy. The Willow Guest House has this balanced magnificently. Never once did I feel like an intruder or awkward. Warren and Dee (the owners) are the kindest and most generous people I have ever met. The moment my girlfriend and I stepped into their home, it felt like we were family. It was quite remarkable actually. Their rare ability to be unconditionally welcoming and genuine is so refreshing that I found myself wishing our trip was longer than two nights! They are a perfect team and care so much about their B&B that every single detail towards excellence is considered. I would come back and stay at their brilliantly wonderful B&B any chance I can get. In fact I wish every hotel in Whistler would take some notes of what true hospitality and comfort is. This is undeniably the BEST BED AND BREAKFAST I have EVER had the pleasure of visiting. While travelling on business recently, my husband realized that not so much as a garden shed was available in Courtenay because of a large influx of visitors for the BC Seniors Games. Through the Chamber he found the only room in the whole area and that was only because of a last minute cancellation. The hosts were divine, the room was lovely, the price was right and breakfast was amazing. He had such a nice time. They have two upstairs rooms with a full kitchen and living area for guests... you can cook your own food, hang out and watch TV and then go down to the hosts kitchen for a made to order breakfast. It's very evident all the thought and care that has went into creating this beautiful atmosphere and resort. We spent nights in both the Sea to Sky Loft, as well as the Sunset Suite. Despite our suite change likely not being the most convenient for the owner Marsha, she never made us feel a bother. Both suites are incredible, it would be really hard to choose which one we preferred. The views from the Sea to Sky are breathtaking, but the space and steam shower of the Sunset are equally enjoyable. Both had propane fire pits outside, and we enjoyed cozying up in the provided robes while looking at the stars. The space was clean, and beds were very cozy. This place is a hidden gem! Marsha was so kind and hospitable, and went above and beyond to make our stay the best as can be. The breakfasts she provided were all SO good! Had the best massage ever in the beachside cabana, the sound of the ocean just feet away, so relaxing. Once on land, we then drive north along the eastern coast into Qualicum Beach and our destination lodging, "At Nautica Tigh Bed and Breakfast". Nestled within a wooded area is a converted private residence offering three individual rooms; ours is the upper deck area complete with fireplace, an open plan area with queen bed, comfy quilted bed spread, downy pillows, a pull-out double sleeper, cozy sofa and TV area, country style eat-in table and chairs, kitchen area with fridge, micro-wave, toaster oven, and ALL the kitchen supplies you will ever need! Our fridge and counter top had already been stocked with tomorrow's breakfast to avoid disturbing us in the AM; fresh fruit, juice, coffee, tea, bagels, bread, spreads, hot and cold cereals, granola. A full bathroom offers a large shower stall and vanity with lots of room. Overall, our setting is similar to that of a cabin in the country with all the conveniences of home. Parking for our SUV was found in front of the steps leading up to our upper deck room and could not have been more convenient. As we get settled in, the sun can be seen setting on the horizon through the woods adjacent to our cottage; the Strait of Georgia can be seen clearly beyond the shore line. This is truly a beautiful yet rugged forested area just waiting to be explored! We soon meet Karen, our host and Owner. Karen greets us warmly and makes certain that all of our requests, if any, are accommodated. Pros: Everything Cons: None Tips: When in Qualicum Beach, plan on visiting nearby Coombs, Kitty Coleman Beach Park, Rathtrevor Beach, Milner Gardens & Woodland, and Old Country Market. The hot tub was clean & freshly serviced, & it sits out behind the house with an incredible view of the Strait of Georgia. With access to the beach down the stairs, you can walk along the beach collecting shells and enjoying the close-up view. Breakfast at 9am was prompt and delicious, including coffee, tea, eggs, sausage, fresh fruit, muffin, and toasted buns & jam. While we were there only a short time we were able to view so much wildlife! Hummingbirds by the dozens, quail, blue heron, a pod of dolphins, as well as the bald eagles, which the owners feed each morning. We got some great pictures and have never been that close to Bald eagles before, not even in Alaska! Highly recommended!

The hosts, Will and Sylvie were extremely friendly and accomodating, knowledgeable about the area, and very hospitable. It seems that they are by nature open and receptive people, as we immediately felt welcomed. The location is a 3 min walk from the ocean. The Inn design and decor inspires calmness with it's clean lines surrounded by 5 story tall cedar trees. The Inn is built from cedar and that wonderful smell envelops you when you arrive; the windows are also framed in cedar- a very west coast look, the decor is Japanese Zen - including opaque 'rice paper-like' sliding doors between the kitchenette, the bedroom and the bathroom/spa rooms. I say bathroom/spa because it is like your own spa - but they do have an actual spa in the Inn with lots of great services-unfortunately we didn't make time to use them! The bathroom has double sinks, a steam bath shower- that's right, your own steam room in your bathroom!- and a tub for two or more with jet bubbles. The view from the bathtub, and the bed for that matter, is trees- just trees... you feel like you are in a tree house! There is a private patio for each room, ours had a glass roof, UV heater, bamboo water feature with pond plants, a love seat, chair and bistro table where we ate breakfast every morning. The breakfasts were filling and gourmet. The little touches such as a split basil leaf as a strawberry leaf on the berry garnish, allude to how much the hosts care about your experience. My gluten sensitivity was catered to without a hitch, nor did I feel like I was missing out because of it. We spend 3 nights there, could have spent a week. Although we were there in the summer- and the weather was perfect, I'd have no problem going there in the middle of winter as a retreat. I could have easily stayed in our room the whole three days- and that isn't just because I was on my honeymoon! ;-)
