They keep you away from the other patients because they think you're a threat to them. They take your strings out of your jacket/hoodie just be aware of that, they'll keep it in a locker with the rest of your belongings if you don't want them taken out. The care sucked, they'd make you attend groups and lie to you saying "it'll get you out faster" which is a total LIE, so you can't trust the staff, they think groups will help you get better when it won't. They don't get that though ... there's too many cameras in there too, I don't like how they have to watch your every move, you're in the csu before moving to willow rock, but that's for another story. The food sucked, it was cold, even when it came fresh from the cart, it was COLD and gross. The staff ate outside food in front of us, which sucked even harder, because it's unfair, they had their phones out in front of us while we couldn't have ours, they asked for our picture, and they wont stop until you agree to taking your picture so the staff can "know who you are" it's stupid bro. The beds also suck really bad, it gets cold at night and the blankets are very thin, even when you ask for more blankets it'll still be cold, the pillows are flat as fuck, excuse my language but it was, it made my back hurt bad and I kept waking up. They check on you every 15 minutes so remember that if you tryna do something because you snuck in contraband. I got away with it, they also aren't allowed in the patient rooms unless it's an emergency like you banged your head on the wall or something. You're welcome, you can't sneak in metal because they use metal detectors, you'd have to shove it up your ass if you wanna hurt yourself that bad gang anyway, you're welcome.

There's just some rules that are somewhat inhumane, like you don't have any say of it. I feel like you can't cry there without getting threatened to be booty juiced. You also need to do group therapy forcefully, (well for me. every experiences are different.) or else you get talked into and things like that. There's this Counselor specifically, he was the worst. He gave all of us a pep talk that We needed to vent or else we will be depressed forever?? like who the hell says that in a psych ward like that? Anyways, there's lots of improvements to be done but otherwise, it's fine.

As I first visited they were renovating the exterior and landscape refresh and I found that to be so important. Residents get to look out their windows and enjoy something fresh and beautiful to look at. Other first impressions were multiple air filtration systems outside the doors of every room. Not sure if that was a 'leftover' from COVID kind of thing or what - but I liked it. Shared rooms were small and good to know is only two visitors at a time. It's hard to imagine it but the reason is purely for function. Placing 3 chairs around I think would be very difficult to navigate anymore. Luckily for those who might not like shared rooms - singles are available. If you've been saving money all your life and here - this might just be the time to spend a little extra if you don't like people around. My friend's neighbor was a pleasant person - and that's what I've found going to these types of places - its not bad to have another nearby... If your friend or family member is here its your job to visit. People make up excuses and there really is no excuse. I was able to slip in 30 minutes before closing after work and anybody can do that. I think visitors are an important part of recovery. You can't visit your friend or your mom? Just keep the excuses to yourself I don't want to hear it.

It was all very overwhelming we didn't know who was a parent or employee. I witnessed a man lose his patience with one of the special needs kids and snatched him roughly to restrain him. The kid wasn't having any sort of wild tantrum or any danger to anyone else. He just wasn't participating properly in their "duck duck goose" game exercise. The man's face was fed up and just over the child. I was convinced that he was the father because of the way he handled him. Moments later I saw him hop on a laptop and take down behavioral notes. It turns out he was an employee there. I wouldn't feel safe leaving my child here. I would recommend parents request access to their cameras if they do. the directors methods seems to rub off onto the other employees. in the interview process she was kind but often broke character and showed her true temperament and aggression throughout the process. these people really don't seem like the have the patience to work with special needs children. there were two members of the staff there that did seem passionate and genuine. however that isn't enough being under her management. i've never written a bad review for any business. this would be my first. lastly, i wouldn't trust a business that has its own employees write themselves good reviews.

I am now with a therapist who fits me best and can see the difference. For one, my therapist now would never tell me that I'm a narcissist for having social anxiety. The last straw I had with Monica is when she gave me another issue to have anxiety on. She asked me what I was studying in school, I said sociology then she said, and I quote, "Ha. Good luck getting a job with a liberal arts degree." I don't know what she was trying to do when she said that but I did not appreciate it at the time. My regret is not saying this earlier to communicate that with her. On the good side, she has great book recommendations and I do appreciate her tell it like it is attitude but some things that were said to me was not okay. Her second day there she stopped eating.They sent her to the ER by herself. A 15 year old in a strange city all alone.They told me there wasn't enough staff. I had to advocate for her, and keep calling until someone sent staff to the ER. The ER doctor at Kaiser called and told me Sunol Hills own doctor said he had to put an NG tube in her so they could make her eat.When I asked him his opinion, he said he didn't feel she needed it, but said all of these places do this and they would most likely not let her come back to their facility if I didn't agree to it. I didn't know what else to do. She had it for 24hours and it came out and she never needed it again. She told me this place was dirty. Twice they found maggots inside the house. Their A/C broke for weeks without being repaired. The worst part was her counselor she was stuck with named Allison. The other therapist, Angela, is much better. Allison made family therapy very uncomfortable, stressful and not what a family session should be. She was judgmental, aggressive and doesn't listen to parents at all. My daughter felt intimidated by Allison, felt she had no voice and while she was also having a gender issue while there, Allison told her she could tell she was a boy and pushed and pushed to make her agree with this. I supported her through it all while Allison told my child I wasn't supportive enough and she had "concerns" about how I handled it. One therapy zoom we had my mother join, which turned bad. My mom wanted to take notes to help support her grandchild. She had a notebook on her lap. She would look down to take notes. Part way through, my child excused herself because she didn't feel well. While she was gone, she suddenly felt sick to her stomach and threw up. The nurse came in to tell Allison who left for a bit. When she came back she told us what happened and then actually had the nerve to say my child was doing it on purpose. My mom and I also told Allison she didn't look like she felt well. Next thing a nurse comes in to tell Allison it may be what she ate. They had gone on a food outing for Chinese food. They told my child that if she ordered rangoon wontons it would show her effort to eat more and benefit her chances to be released. My child has a seafood allergy to fish but not shellfish, which the staff were all made aware of. My child asked if they were made with real crab, not imitation, they told her it was real crab. The vomiting she went through all night was not purging as Allison tried to blame her for. It was Sunol Hills staff who had my child eat something that we later found out WAS imitation crab and was actually halibut.This caused an allergic reaction. She was given benadryl. When I asked for her to be given zofran to help with the vomiting, they said she would throw it up. After my child persistently asked for the Zofran, staff finally decided to check the Zofran and realized her prescription was quick dissolve and she could have been given it earlier. The next day my child called to say she was better and then let me know that Allison had told her she had "serious concerns" that my mother, her grandmother, wasn't taking her eating issue seriously because she thought she was looking away too much during our zoom meeting. I let Allison know she was looking away to write on a notebook she had on her lap, and that it didnt really matter because she learned nothing from Allison and then the meeting was cut short because they fed my child food she was allergic too. I had to fight to get my daughter out of this horrible place. She has been home for many months now and after getting her neurofeedback therapy sessions, she is no longer experiencing PTSD anxiety. She no longer has an eating issue and knows without a doubt she is a beautiful young woman. Even hearing the name Allison makes us both cringe with horrible traumatic memories from this facility and from that horrible counselor. Your child and you deserve to be treated better than this place offers.
