Popped in here today to browse around this very cute store with a massive array of home decor, gifts, clothing jewelry, unusual readers, candles and of course flowers. It's the perfect store for that unusual one if a kind gift. We spent well over an hour here browsing around looking at greeting cards, cool wet bar decor, writing note-lets etc.The whole ambience here is just great. We loved it. The store is very well put together and at every turn you find some more cool stuff. It just goes on & on. That is until we started to notice the pricing. Oh my, this shop is very expensive. This store has so much to choose from. If you're looking for a gift for someone (or maybe yourself) this is the perfect place to start. Not only is there tons of variety, I always see uniquely curated items I've never seen elsewhere. The owner Lisa travels the world for amazing finds and has them here available for sale so there's always rotating stock and you're guaranteed to find something new. You'll often find skin care, clothing, accessories, cool office supplies, jewelry, house wares, and even fresh cut flowers. There's even a section with gifts catered to men as well! Others have mentioned the pricing and in my experience it's all over the place which I believe has to do with the cost of said items and where they came from. I find some things I feel are priced below what I expected in a store like this and others I gently set down and walk away... I'm definitely not looking to fit the bill on a set of "you break it, you buy it" plates at a hundred a piece :) read more

As far as event florists in the Charleston area, this one is not my cup of tea. I went there during my wedding planning and decided against working with Out of Hand for a number of reasons. First - the good: They're a great one-stop-shop. They have flowers, rentals and coordination services, if you're interested in all those things. The ladies we met with were nice and their events always looked pretty. It's also, as others mentioned, a cute craft-y type shop with lots of knick-knacks. Unfortunately, I was simply not impressed with them as we stepped out a floral proposal for my wedding. My mother and I clearly explained we didn't want mason jars, specific flowers, etc. ... and when we got the proposal, those things were outlined as our quoted items. It was as if they hadn't listened to us at all! Another thing on the proposal proved to me that they hadn't really been listening: the inclusion of rental items. Our meeting was solely for florals (our venue had a really wonderful relationship with a different rental company) and we were very clear we weren't renting any items from them that didn't have to do directly with the flower arrangements. However, when we got the proposal it included rentals -- a huge white bar, among other things -- that we said we weren't interested in getting through them. I've never felt so "unheard" in a meeting with a vendor in my entire life. It was really disappointing. Obviously we decided against working with Out of Hand for our wedding day flowers. If they couldn't listen to me when they were courting my business, how could I be sure they'd listen through the rest of the process? read more

One of my favorite shops in the Charleston area. Always unique! The shop is creatively decorated and ever-changing. The staff is great. This is a shop worth making a trip to in Old Village, Mt. Pleasant. My only complaint, they close at 5:00.... Wishing they would have an extended hours shopping day or open on Sunday. The only day I can shop there is on Monday.... Due to my work schedule. I am from out of town. I called Out of the Garden looking for a florist serving Isle of Palms SC to bail me out of a jam and praying that someone would still be open after 2:30 pm on a Saturday to do a same day delivery. You see, the previous day, I was duped by a third party florist company in thinking that they were a local florist and placed an order for Saturday morning delivery. At 2 pm on Saturday they told me they couldn't fill my order. Panic stricken I started calling every local florist in the area. When I stumbled upon Danielle at Out of the Garden/Out of Hand she understood my situation, didn't promise anything yet but took my number so she could call me back after she helped the customers in front of her. She called me back and said that she had an arrangement that she would deliver on her way home after work if that would work for me. Brilliant! I was ecstatic as I was now able to salvage the day with the help of a true customer service individual. Thumbs up and thank you for having individuals like Danielle in your organization. read more

I used "Out of Hand" as our florist for our wedding and I was disappointed with the floral arrangements. To make matters worse, I wrote a review on a wedding site, which was actually a very positive review with a few points of constructive criticism and the owner actually wrote me a scathing email in response. If you can't take constructive criticism, then you shouldn't be in the customer service business. Overall, neither the flowers nor the customer service would ever bring me back to Out of Hand. read more

Visiting Olde Mt. Pleasant for the first time, and happened upon this little store. Cute enough to go in, but had the experience as seen in "Pretty Woman". While we were dressed in appropriate attire, the older woman on the sales staff could not be bothered with us. We had been on a brisk walk/exercise over the bridge from Mt. Pleasant to Charleston and back...Her loss, as we flew out later that day, we laughed at how she could have had a wonderful sales day for the store! Imagine acting too busy "fluffing" the stores merchandise, to greet customers. As a southern girl, old enough to know better, being pleasant goes along way....my daughters bridal shopping and plans will go else where! Any suggestions? read more

I have been in the wedding business for over 10 years in Charleston. Never, have i dealt with such horrible lack of respect for a potential bride. Although, I had been told they were quirky, even somewhat rude, I had always loved their decor. I felt sure their reputation was misleading. Brides gets stressed. People tend to only post when unhappy... Sadly, every personal review of their reputation was correct. Inefficient, rude and overpriced. I will be sure to let all of my friends in the business know. We went and saw Lisa Thomas the owner to plan our son's wedding and rehearsal dinner. She was very gracious at the meeting and we established a good deal of the details. She promised to send a spreadsheet with the details for both events. Which she did HOWEVER, she did not include me nor did she attach the Dear Bride attachment which is where the contract is and other important information. Yesterday, less than 90 days from the wedding she informs us she cannot coordinate the event because we never sent the contract and now all her coordinators are busy. Well we had numerous email exchanges - she never answered mine until yesterday - which was the 'I'm too busy and it's all your fault." She never took responsibility for NOT sending the form laying all of the blame on us. In those exchanges the bride asked what's next I told her I would be in to pay the deposits because she refused to take it at the first meeting. One of her staff was kind enough to recommend other wedding planners to us and we secured one later in the afternoon. My biggest issue is that she NEVER accepted responsibility for NOT sending the contract and still does not or will not. read more

Got a quote . We changed items several times therefore invalidating original quote, gave them proper notice before event that we were cancelling service. They then called again for delivery location. Again advised them we cancelled the order. They then charged us $450 and have yet to even attempt to deliver the product even though it was cancelled. Have tried emailing and calling but they either put me on hold to hang up or refuse to respond to emails. Will end up taking to court to get my funds returned. Will never do business with again and anyone we can refer our experience too will hear it. read more

My sweet husband went to Out of Hand and bought me a watch for Valentine's Day. Once I opened the box, he started to put in on my wrist and it BROKE! It was an embellished leather band with beads and a very inexpensive metal clasp that would never have worked with the weight of the band. The watch itself didn't work! He spent almost $200.00 on it! He told me that they informed him that their return policy was only store credit....but since we had shopped there in the past and since the watch was defective (and the only one), I thought they may bend the return rules and give me a refund. They did not! The sales associate and manager said the owner felt strongly and never strayed from the no refund policy. I will never shop there again and will never recommend Out of Hand again. There are too many other stores in Mount Pleasant that value their customers and would have been ashamed to have sold such an item. Buyer beware--lots of interesting items but overpriced and not good quality and no concept of customer service. read more

Complete lack of respect for potential clients. I have been helping a friend plan a wedding and she was gathering proposals from potential florists and rental companies. Ooh! looked great, they had everything she wanted, tables chairs, etc. After receiving an initial proposal that was not really close to the specifications the bride requested, she politely emailed the changes for the things she would be having and omitting in her wedding plan. The planners took two weeks to initially get back, saying they would call on Monday. Another two weeks later and the bride emails again to get a corrected proposal. She received an abrupt and grammatically incompetent email saying they were focused on the brides at hand and are sure that she would appreciate the same attention the day of her wedding. While, yes, she would appreciate the appropriate attention the day of her wedding, she was also hoping for courteous and efficient handling in all of the events leading thereto. Needless to say, they were scratched from the list and lost thousands in business. read more

Did not have a good experience unfortunately. The shop is great, but my wedding experience was bad enough to keep me out of it. The process was frustrating, poor communication, etc. at one point we almost "fired" them but decided it was too close to the day and went on with it. The day of my wedding our coordinator came late and hungover in soffee shorts and a tee shirt. She was there when the ceremony started so it was a bit inappropriate. As expected, I didn't really care because it was the happiest day of my life! But as an afterthought, I could not give them a good review because it was a bad experience. What finally left a poor enough taste in my mouth to write this review was hearing the shop owner and coordinator gossiping about my family and other brides/weddings in a negative light while I was shopping in the store one afternoon. They didn't realize I was standing on the other side of the curtain. Yikes! read more
