Buz was firm with his expectations of the boys (10, 11 & 12) with regard to the safety, gave us a short brief on his boat (fire extinguishers, life jackets, the head, etc.) and we shoved off. I sat up front with Buz on the way out and he was more than happy to answer all my questions, show me the various navigation gauges, and share his knowledge as an ol salty captain. We pulled up to a couple of spots and dropped lines immediately, Max was very good with prepping the rigs and bait. We were on the fish quickly and when the action died down we pulled our lines and moved to the next spot. Very little if any downtime once we started fishing. Max and Buz did a great job of hooking fish when the action started to die down and when the had one on the line they handed the rod off to one of our boys to reel in. Buz clean our catch on our way back and once at the dock we settled up our tab and tipped $120 for the captain and deck hand to split up. Great time, Buz and Max were great with the boys, highly recommend this charter and if we're down again we'll go back out with Captain Buz on the Jawfly!!

Captain and mate were patient and very helpful. We caught 20+ fish, half were keepers. They cleaned and cut the fish for us. We left with ready to cook fillets and a few dozen crabs. Great experience. I highly recommend.

I was so disappointed when I read the review from Fred G…read more Mechanicstown, OH We chose the Doghouse for our fishing charter on July 2, 2020. I was so happy when I called to book the charter and they had a full day charter available, booking in advance was the key. Rachel, the lady that assisted me with the reservation was awesome. I had never done a trip of this size. I actually called her more than than once with questions. My son and I wanted to take this trip as a memorial to my husband that passed away 1 year ago (this was number 1 on his bucket list). He was a big fan of Wicked Tuna and Doghouse was his favorite boat. I received a text to remind us to be at boat and ready to go at 4am. Our deck hand Bo was already there and getting everything ready when we arrived. When Captain Shack arrived he came into the cabin, explained where everything was located including pillows and blankets if we were cold. He wasted no time leaving the dock. Shack didn't come down for a social hour, he worked the entire trip making sure we were on the fish. Bo was constantly working rigging lines, setting lines and helping us land our fish. We came home with 2 large yellowfin tunas and 2 Mahi Mahi (1 of those was a 43 lb citation) and memories that will last a life time. My son's sister in law had never caught a fish and she landed the Mahi Mahi. She smiled all the way back to the dock (she's probably still smiling) I offered to pay for our trip before we left the dock and Captain Shack said "We can do that when we get back to the dock". Just because the boat is back at the dock, they didn't take a break. Bo was trying to prepare for an afternoon trip and Captain Shack and I took care of my payment and finding the tee shirts everyone wanted to buy. I never expected Captain Shack to stop the boat and have a social hour with us. They both worked the entire trip without stopping and had another group coming on board for an evening trip. We left the boat and immediatly began planning another trip with Captain Shack and the Doghouse. You will never please everyone and going fishing is not a guarantee that you'll catch fish but the negative review left by Fred G. Mechanicstown, OH really upsets me. God Bless you and stay safe Captain Shack, thank you for once in a lifetime memories.

AVOID! We booked this charter for a group of 8 guys expecting to have a blast whether we caught…read morefish or just had a good time on the boat. To our surprise, we got nothing but a quick safety briefing, a talk about how to operate a door, and a quick rundown of how to use the restroom. Keep in mind this was a group of all adults. As we departed the marina to head out to the ocean, little did we know that would be the last we would see of our dear boat captain. He said nothing else to us for the remainder of the day. No explanation as to what he had planned for the day, no explanation as to what we would be fishing for, not even a where ya guys from. The hospitality was a ZERO. These guys made us feel like we had absolutely ruined their day for just stepping aboard their boat. DO NOT BOOK! I left two stars due to the fact that we did catch fish. Two fish to be exact, and when we did, once again the captain and his first mate had no hospitality. Yelling at us, "Get in the chair! What are you guys doing?" Maybe we would have know what to do if someone gave us a quick briefing on "Here's what to do when we hook up on one guys" BUT AGAIN WE GOT NOTHING!! Lastly, upon returning to the marina we were waiting for our two small fish to be processed and the Captain of the charter felt that it was necessary to come and haggle us for additional money. In his words, "hey you guys didn't tip". Our response, "you're absolutely right, you guys didn't do anything at all". He was mind blown. He said we needed to come up with additional money and to include a tip. When we said no, he said that our cash amount we had given him was short $60.00 when it was 100% not. This was an all around disappointment from the beginning to the end with nothing but false hope, 0 communication, and a Captain/Son duo that probably ought to just hang it up and stop chartering as a whole. In short, AVOID! AVOID! AVOID!
