Our group of 8 took Marsh Tour on Friday, June 28 with MASON as our guide! She was absolutely TERRIFIC from the moment she introduced herself til she took the last photos of us at the very end! She managed our group and the tour very efficiently, with an easy smile and great positive energy. MASON provided helpful "how to" instruction for the "first timers' in our group. Tiger was a great guide which is why there's not only one star. Truth be told the alligator river tour is pretty lackluster. Not sure what I expected but it wasn't just a giant loop on a stretch of water with almost no wildlife. We did see an alligator from about 200 ft away. Admittedly that was cool. The biggest flaw is this company's cancellation policy. My wife got terrible ill last minute and was unable to go. They have a 48 hr no refund policy which makes perfect sense since most people on vacation are doing thing spontaneously, including canceling plans they had, but the rest of us showed up. That's $150 (3 people) they didn't have before. But they gave me a hard time about a refund for my wife and refused to issue it. So, alligator river tour kinda sucks, but tiger was great. Can't stress that enough. Company doesn't understand costumer service...at all. read more

Fun! We had a great time as first time kayakers, but it wasn't what I expected. Honestly, I'm not sure what I expected, but I should've assumed blisters on my thumbs would be a part of the deal. We booked a spin around Pea Island - and it was 100% anti-climatic. Our guide Tiger, was entertaining and polite and bless is heart, tethered us to his waist with a strap because I couldn't navigate the kayak with my 9 year old at the helm. He drug us around the sound for a solid hour with a smile on his face and I couldn't be more grateful. Knowing what I know now, I'd leave the children next time and choose a more exciting "cruise". I don't think that super shallow spot was the most exciting, even with him pointing out oysters and crabs and birds. read more

We did the Kill Devil beginners tour with Travis on Easter Sunday. Our mixed ability group all did great under Travis' direction and his knowledge of the area and estimating everyone's ability was awesome. Their trek is easy and great fir very first timers and people nervous about using a kayak. Everyone picked it up quickly; no need to repeat this level and will do a more adventurous tour next tine . One tip, go single, even the kids. Tandem kayakers were the only ones to have any difficulties; and the kids and first timers picked up the single kayak operation within minutes on the water. My family (5 people, ranging in ages, 16 - 56) scheduled the 9am kayak tour this morning. We arrived 15 minutes as requested and started the check in process. Within 5 minutes of arriving, a group of 22 people showed up with the same reservation. My family was kayaking ( we are casual kayakers with some level of experience). The group of 22 were a mix of standing paddle boarder and kayakers who were very inexperienced. Jack, our guide was good, but seemed to be overwhelmed with the size of the group. He spent the majority of his time helping those paddle boarders stay on their paddle board and helping them kayak. Suffice to say there was NO tour of any kind. We didn't even make it out to the duck stand near the first marsh. This tour was supposed to be 1.5 hours - by the time we got on the kayaks it was 9:20 and then we were told to head back in at 10am. When we returned, I asked Jack what happened and why were we back in and he said that the other group wanted to come back in. He told me that my family could go back out but my kids had already gotten out of their kayaks and he had put them away. This was not fair to us and for the price we paid for this supposed tour. I picked this company due to the overwhelming 5 star reviews. This cost us over $225 for a 40 minutes kayak "tour". This company needs to limit the amount of people per time slot. I feel as though this was a total rip off. Debating between this tour and a horse tour, but decided on this one because we were guaranteed kayaking and a tour, whereas we are not guaranteed to see horses on a horse tour. Do yourself a favor and call and ask how many groups will be in your reservation slot before you book. By no means is this our guide, Jacks, fault. It just stinks that he had to deal with all of these people at the same time. read more

What a fantastic experience. This was a very professional tour from the moment I called and spoke with Wendy to our arrival on location and met with Rudy. Wendy warned us about bears along the 2 mile gravel road leading up to the launch area. I discounted that initially until we came upon a Mother Bear with 2 cubs ten feet off the road about a mile in. What a treat to start our kayak adventure! Rudy gave us a great class about the kayaks and how to efficiently paddle. He was great with the kids too! We had a great time on the tour today! We went on the two hour tour in the wildlife preserve. The company was quick to respond to any emails we had and our guide (tasha) was very pleasant. She gave us a few tips before we started and pointed out some trees along the way. Definitely a pleasure to get to know a bit during our tour! We didn't see any wildlife on our tour but it was still a great day. It was a nice relaxing way to start our day! We had an awesome experience last week with Outer Banks Kayak Adventures! They were able to schedule our group of 5 quickly, and we were able to go out the same day. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable about the area, and was able to keep my kids interested during the 2 hour excursion. The kayaks were great. We had a combination of singles and doubles, and they were very easy to paddle for my kids ages 11-13. It was very hot, and there was room to bring water and sunscreen. You had the option to wear your life jacket, or just keep it on the boat with you. We chose not to wear them, as the water is only about 4 ft deep, and it was so hot! My husband and I had the best experience with Outer Banks Kayak Adventures! There were storms on the morning that we were originally scheduled to take our tour, but Wendy was happy to reschedule our tour to make sure that we had the best possible experience. She answered my emails quickly and made me feel comfortable with our tour before we even showed up. We booked the Roanoke Island Historical Tour because my husband is a bit of a history buff. Our tour guides, Justin and Rudy, provided lots of information about the lost colony, as well as information about plants and wildlife in the area. They took time to make sure that we were comfortable in the kayaks and taught us tips to avoid getting tired too quickly. They also offered to take a picture of us in front of the Elizabeth II replica ship so that we could have a souvenir from the trip. Near the end of the tour, they recommended a restaurant for lunch and other things to do in the area. We enjoyed the tour so much that we look forward to taking other tours in future visits to the Outer Banks. We highly recommend that everyone take a break from the beach to check out Outer Banks Kayak Adventures. We couldn't have had a better trip! read more

5 stars (2 stars for Yelp because it won't let me give 5 above). The night time bioluminescent tour is really interesting. It's a great workout with a very relaxing float thru marshes in the middle. Definitely go with half moon or less to see the most creatures, but we could still see some even with 3/4 moon. Tiger and Conner did a great job helping our family with younger kids keep up. They also clearly knew and understood everything about the tour. Would go again. read more

We went for a morning paddle with Wendy at Mashoes Creek at Alligator River late last summer. This was our second trip out with Wendy - we went in the Spring as well. She is the most relaxed, friendly, instructive, knowledgeable instructor and guide. She seems like an old family friend! We had an incredible time - and a good workout - paddling through the marsh grasses with another family that did SUP at the same time with us. A snake even joined us for a few minutes, which was pretty exciting. Nothing like being out on the water and learning at the same time with someone who knows so much about the area and the wildlife and obviously enjoys her job. Worth every penny and a tip! Every beach trip should include an excursion like this. Kids talked about it for months. Can't wait until my youngest is big enough to SUP, but we'll be back to kayak until then. read more
