They're dishonest. My hard drive had a burnt controller chip from applying 12V to the 5V input. I needed the PCB replaced with a donor. I was impressed with a video of a PCB adaptation service that Donor Drives (their sister company) published. I also confirmed Donor Drives had my exact donor board in stock for $50. However, Outsource Data Recovery and Donor Drives don't answer phones or emails! But I was able to chat online with Outsource. I explained that I just wanted the PCB adaptation (replace the board and transfer over the ROM) service. They agreed that it would be $60 and if it didn't work, they would send my drive back for $12 shipping. I should have been more suspicious, especially since they didn't even mention the $50 for the donor board. I sent my media in. A week later they sent an email saying they aren't able to do the PCB adaptation. No explanation. No status on the donor board. No board replacement as I asked. Instead they say I have to get the full service total data recovery (and pay like 10x more). They won't respond to emails. I can select "Return my Media" but it says $25 to ship! They aren't honest. I realize data recovery is a big expensive business, but PCB replacement is fairly simple and a good first step. Unfortunately, this is not a business you can trust to do that. read more

**** Warning **** Do not use this company for repairs. I sent them my HHD after explaining that the Sata connector was broken. It's a new HHD. I had them the part number for the PCB and I got a email reply saying that they would prefer for me to send them the hard drive for a free diagnostic. So I called them over the phone. I spoke with a female service representative. She told me that her techs do great things and is amazing what she has seen them do. She said for the $60 fee ( which is what they advertise) if they can't fix my PCB, they can replace it for the same price. I received a email today, stating that they cannot fix my hard drive. No mention of replacement. They only give you the option for return or disposal. How convenient for them. If you dispose it they get to fix it or use it for parts for other repairs. So of course I choose to have it returned. What do I find? They are charging me $25 for a unknown reason and $12 for shipping it back. I can reason for the $12 for shipping it there. But now they want $37 for me to return my unit. This company is a con. Do not use them. read more

They sucker you in with the $60 repair cost only to tell you that they have to open the drive in their clean room and then charge you a $99 upcharge , then after a few days they sent me another email saying we can't fix it but we can recover your data and its an additional $1297. I believe that most of the reviews are written by their own staff because they are so one sided . i also believe that they take a look at the contents of the drive and base their price on what they see. If there is old pictures on it , or financial records , or maybe a college mid term report they may charge more. I'm sure a few people will pay for the recovery , I'm also sure that they make a lot of money on the $99 upcharge . They don't answer the phone even when using the extension provided in the email, they are very slow to respond to emails or chat . i went with this company because of the reviews only to find out that they were totally B.S . Don't be fooled. These guys have a misleading front page add that claims "If we cannot recover your data, we have a no data, no fee policy. You will not pay anything." This statement is false advertising. They have fine print on another page that contradicts this statement in an "Advanced" section. So if the seal is broken on your drive, this statement is false. I sent in a Seagate drive for "free diagnosis" that they wanted to charge me $99 to diagnose due to the seal being removed. The sad thing is, the customer gave me the go ahead to pay whatever the final fee was up to $3500 to recover her data, but I promised the customer it would be free diagnosis due to their front page wording. The customer did not want to pay unless the place could guarantee recovery. I cannot tell the customer they need to pay $99 to assess it after I already told her it would be free. I contacted Ashley (a manager) and she could care less. She had all the tender sweetness of a robot reading a script. I dont mind taking my business solely to Drive Savers as they dont play these games. They freely assess your drive and give you a final price. Not good nor professional. I've been shopping around for years trying to fix my backup drive and I finally found out about this place. I send out my hard drive with bad firmware from a power surge. They claim it's free shipping out to them so I submit a "project" and get a shipping label. I was constantly working and didn't have the time to pack it and ship it out throughout the week, giving the I live in a rural area, the only FEDEX is 40 mins away. Within the 4 days before I shipped the drive out, I was getting emailed constantly about the drive, then the calls began. "Have you shipped the hard drive yet!", they're pushy, I let it slide. On my day off I drop off the package and then the waiting game begins. I keep checking on the site on the progress of my drive and nothing, a month passes by and nothing. No calls, no messages, nothing. I see that they wanted a payment of $99, So I paid and then get a message that the drive is unrecoverable. So... give me my money back. They didn't do shit but to steal my money and to top it off they charge to return it to me. Seem too shady and will I try to get a charge back from my bank. read more

This company is the best!!! There is not one thing bad I can say about it. I had a drive that didn't work no matter what I tried. I contacted them - they emailed me a prepaid label, I mailed drive to them, they contacted me to let me know drive was received and assessment would be done within 2-3 days. I got notified in about a day and was advised what needed to be done - all I needed was a new circuit board and repair was successful. The price was $60!!! I had gotten quotes from other companies ranging from $500 to most likely $1,000! I was also offered the option to transfer my files onto a new drive (a very plausible idea had I not had a docking station for external drives) which would have been for about $100 more. I will tell everyone I know about them. They are worth their weight in gold!!! read more

Service for repair (of fried external hard drive), extraction of data, and transfer media was easy, fast, and effective. Once the $60.00 was paid, I was able to download a prepaid mailing sticker. Alex communicated with me as soon as I submitted order...by phone and email. The $60.00 is refundable if they can't fix it. Alex continued to communicate with me throughout the process so that I was given all the needed information to make the best decision as to what to do. One can just have the repaired drive sent back but because I no longer had the original case, I decided to extract the data on to a transfer media. Having compared cost, it was reasonable. I liked that once the problem was determined, I was given specific costs and options. The whole process, from mailing out the drive to receiving my data took about 12 days. I had a partition loss on my 6tb seagate hdd. I felt it was the logic board and sent them my drive hoping for the 60 dollar fix. After their "testing" of my drive, I was contacted back and told my hdd had extensive internal damage and it would cost me over $350 to recover my data. I opted just to have it shipped back and decided I would save up some money and contact someone later on about recovery. I am glad I waited. I decided one day to simply try myself. I did not have much to lose. With MiniTool Partition Manager I was able to link right in and see all my data flawlessly. I bought an 8tb drive and was able to save 100% of my data onto the new drive. I don't know why I was quoted that kind of price, and damage description, from a company everyone claims is completely honest and above board. I am just glad I have my data back. I can honestly say that if my drive had extensive internal damage, I would not have been able to save anything off of it as it would either have been completely corrupted, or still would not have registered at all in computer management. Currently the drive passes smart and all seagate tests, and lists as no errors found under sfc /scannow as well as chkdsk /r /f. Sorry, but it struck me as kinda shady when it is back at 100%. The moral of my story is simply to try MiniTool yourself. If that doesnt work, try Stellar Toolkit. You may well be able to save your data yourself. I did.
