He charged less than I was charged to be neglected by his competitors and got us wonderful refunds from Feds and State. Larger than ever before! She told me I would only need to pay taxes on money withdrawn from my business account into my personal account, and that there was no requirement to collect sales tax for cleaning services in Arkansas. Both of these statements were incorrect. I still have the written notes from that first meeting, so I know for a fact that this was the guidance I was given. I later spoke with another tax professional who confirmed that sales tax is required for my type of business, and I verified the same information on the official Arkansas DFA website. Because I followed Carol's advice in good faith, I now owe sales tax on over $35,000 in revenue, which is costing me thousands of dollars, along with penalties and interest. This situation could have been entirely avoided with accurate information. This review is meant to be a warning to others to verify any tax guidance you receive especially when it involves legal compliance. Mistakes like these can have serious financial consequences.

And it just gets worse and worse. This year I have some new situation. I double checked it with them to confirm if I needed to file a report form on that. And they firmly told me TWICE that it was not necessary to do so. I then ask around friends and google searched (mind you, even Google search is more knowledgeable than them). I downloaded the form from the IRS website (as an amateur myself, as if they are paying me money rather than the opposite), and emailed it to them. They finally admitted that I did have to file that form. It is a simple form that I can finish in 15 minutes( trust me, even though English is not my first language). However, they declared that it was VERY complicated that they needed an extension on my tax return. When I asked why and pointed out their unprofessionalism in failing to recognize the necessity of this form, which could jeopardize my integrity, they got really mad. I tentatively asked them to finish the tax return and the extra form in time without extra charge as an apology. They laughed at me on the phone. They may think it was fun. It actually was. I made myself a joke in trusting people like them. They made all kinds of excuses for their mistakes. They said one thing and then denied it immediately after 5 minutes. They refuse to apologize. They declined to continue working with me in a very rude way just because I questioned their professionalism. But is that true? A simple google search could tell me they were wrong. I of course won't work with them anymore because who knows what kind of forms will be overlooked by them.

When the 2014 taxes were completed we were advised we were getting several thousand back from the government. We questioned this twice and were assured the taxes were correct. After all, this is why we hire a CPA. Due to poor customer service, we decided to part ways before the next tax season. In 2015, our new accountant discovered an error on our 2014 taxes. We had to pay unexpectedly several thousand, as well as interest, for the 2014 tax amendment. Now being 2015, this came as a huge surprise as we thought our 2014 taxes were correct. In short, the IRA's had not been reported correctly in 2014. The explanation I received from Riggs & Associates was that their tax preparation software does not work well with the forms when completing IRA's. Very concerning. Because of the above, we did not allow Riggs & Associates to complete the amendment for 2014. I asked for our 2014 tax preparation fee to be reimbursed. Riggs & Associates refused as they stated the work had been done even if it was incorrect. However, Riggs & Associates agreed to pay any penalties we received. Upon receiving a letter from the IRS requesting interest be paid, which I thought was a penalty, I sent this to Riggs & Associates. When I received a phone call back regarding this, I was advised this was interest and not a penalty. To me, a penalty would be anything additionally owed. Furthermore, I was told I had some nerve to call and ask for help after giving a one star review on Facebook from the above experience. I stood by my review. Riggs & Associates agreed to pay only half of the interest. The customer service and play on words confirmed our decision to use a different accountant. The ability to review on Facebook has since been disabled on their page and reviews can no longer be seen.
