Very small rooms, food is sub par like most assited living I think. They don't really give choices to make or get food you feel like / want to eat in your end days. They say they provide activities which they do but they are not really encouraging to get residents to participate or start new groups. Plan way ahead for more care as it is Not available within a day or two. The front end staff / maintained are very nice and try really hard to give support with out suport/ training from the head staff. It dose seem like there is a lot of turn over. There actions dont represent there words. After my Mother passed I did give suggestions for improvements but I'm not very encouraged. read more

Very understaffed and high employee turnover. My mom lived here for about 7 months, both upstairs and downstairs. Although much of the the staff was pleasant and did the best they could, there was no possible way they could keep up with the residents. Simple needs were not met at the facility--from laundry and medication dispensing to large things--like allowing your parent to walk around in soiled pants. So many things went wrong here, which meant that I had to pick up the slack, and be there all the time. I eventually moved my mom downstairs to memory care, which is when things really went downhill. Each time my mother had an outburst, they called the police (3x). Each time, they required I hire a caregiver for her. Between the rent and caregivers, plus me being there all the time, it was too much. Please do not send your parent to Overlake terrace. The daily activities are lackluster, the residents are not well cared for, and the menu is super basic. Don't be tempted by their low prices either--you definitely get what you (don't) pay for. read more

Our friend moved into Overlake Terrace last fall and was there a few months before his health declined and needed more care. He enjoyed several of the staff members and Marcia, the director, worked hard to see his needs were met. He was not fond of the food, however. He said he wanted more fresh fruits and vegetables. That the owners made significant efforts to identify me is just untrue....another indication of the lack of integrity of the owners of this facility. They know exactly who I am, because after my review posted they contacted me twice (left voicemails) saying they had read my review and inquiring about how they could "make it right". I did not respond. I didn't want a payoff, I wanted to warn others so that your parents might not suffer as mine did. By the time they wanted to "learn more about how to improve", we had moved mom to a similarly priced and much better facility. Their opportunity to "make it right" was when my fully mentally competent mother talked to the facility manager about the rough care (pulling her brief out without lifting her and causing painful friction in a very sensitive area), when after that rough care was not improved and I spoke to one of the owners about it (one of the sons), when I spoke to another owner (the father) about this very issue, and when, after things did not improve and my mother ended up in the hospital with MRSA in the exact spot of the friction pain and almost died, (did not even get a call checking on her or us when she was near death and in excruciating pain in the hospital), or when we moved her things our of their facility. No, when they really got concerned about my mom's care was when I wrote the review. Then they started calling me to "make things right". The owner is a lawyer so I will clearly state here that when Washington State investigated my mother's care, they found problems but did not conclude that her MRSA infection was a result of that rough care. I hope our experience tells you all you need to know about these owners. In my opinion, they should be ashamed of themselves, as part of their "sell" is what good, family-oriented, people they are. read more

My parents lived at Overlake Terrace for 6 years. During that time we had many family gatherings with the large extended family. The staff was always kind and helpful in organizing the activity room, and even setting up a space to barbecue outside in the summer. It meant so much to us kids that we could have some normal time with our folks in their last days. The staff was so kind, especially Ryan, Maria, Alma, Sabine, just some of the names I recall. I'm disappointed that many of the other reviewers leave one-paragraph anecdotes and fail to give a complete picture. Worse, Yelp seems to arbitrarily choose which reviews contribute to the rating and which don't. I'll take the risk and actually attempt a complete review. First, some context. There are two distinct portions of this facility to consider, with distinct amenities/features and depending on where your loved one needs to be you should evaluate them separately. The upper two floors are independent and/or assisted living facilities. The lower floor is a memory care facility. My mother moved in to the Memory Care facility after we considered many other options. From a value perspective, this was hands down the best option. I visited at multiple different times during the day and interacted with most of the staff there, and every single one of them was an outstanding, patient professional doing their best. As others have noted, for patients who should not be left alone (for safety reasons, like frequent falls) they are frequently together in an "activity room" where the smaller number of staff is capable of watching them. However, what other reviewers have NOT noted is that this is part of dementia care, establishing routines. They are not "left unattended". In my case, I knew my mother would feel more comfortable in her own room surrounded by her own things, and paid extra for someone to come just sit with her. The savings over other facilities enabled me to afford this; you just have to set your expectations on what a facility is able to do. During my frequent visits I also chatted with many of the "upstairs" residents. These were frequently well-educated people... retired aerospace engineers from Boeing. Senior management at tech companies. Master's degrees. Doctorates. They knew value and they moved here from other facilities and were happy with their choices. Sure, not everything was perfect here but they knew that, and still considered it better than other places they'd come from. Now, the reason this is 4 stars instead of 5, is that despite being full of great staff, there simply aren't enough of them. Maintenance requests have a multiple-week backlog (unless it's an emergency). It took over 3 weeks just to get a cable box/tv hookup. They need more maintenance staff. While there's always someone on call at the front desk, typically they can only write something down and call/email someone else. There's supposed to be an on-call manager every day but it frequently took me over an hour to get in contact with them. Communicating by trying to actually meet someone was rare; I got the best response via email. That's not how it should be. Not everything was perfect at Overlake Terrace, but I still think it was better than any other alternative I considered and would choose to go there again -- and would recommend it over many specific alternative places I visited. Is it the best? Probably not. Is it the best value, and flexible enough for you to translate your savings into customized care for your loved one? Absolutely. read more

We have enjoyed our experience immensely at Overlake Terrace. Very professional staff and clean and inviting. There are great services and activities for residence. I highly recommend! Convenient shopping and close to several businesses and doctors. Jessica has been incredibly helpful and easy to work with. Given how difficult it is when aging family members need additional help it's great to know there are people that make it easier on everyone. We appreciate everyone we have worked with thus far. My parents lived here for approximately 1 1/2 years. They both shared an unit on the main floor for one year and then they both moved down to the memory care for 1/2 year due to the need of my dad. My mom is very healthy and can take care of herself but choose to reside with my dad with the assistance of Overlake Terrace staff. While residing on the main floor my parents encountered small issues that were addressed by the staff. It is the memory care where they faced all the issues: 1) A staff member is suppose to come and change my dad for his incontinence issues. There have been several times when no one would show up, my mom would push the call button and they said the person that's suppose to change my dad is sick today. No one else shows up and my mom ends up changing my dad. If a staff member calls in sick shouldn't another staff member take their place? This is service my parents pay for but did not consistently receive. 2) The memory care unit is suppose to be "secured", meaning the residents cannot leave on their own. There is no one monitoring the residents on that floor even though there's an office with a window near the elevator, no staff member is there. One time, my husband and I were leaving my parents unit and as we headed to the elevator we saw a resident waiting at the elevator. Had we not known she was a resident she would've gotten in the elevator with us. At another time, we were coming down on the elevator to visit my parents, when the door opened two residents headed into the elevator as we were getting out. Because we recognized them and we didn't let them go in. Where is the staff? 3) Some of the residents have a hard time finding their own unit to get back in. While visiting my parents, we've seen other residents open my parents door and then realize it's not their unit. This happens a few times throughout the week. My mom said this is especially annoying in the middle of the night. Where's the staff? 4) There's an older lady in the memory care that thinks my dad is her boyfriend. She likes to kiss and caress my dad. My mom has tried telling her this is her husband. Poor lady doesn't remember or can't understand what my mom says. My mom leaves my dad for a few hours with the staff in the memory care so she can get a break in their unit or go on the outing provided by Overlake. My mom has told the staff several times to keep this lady away from my dad while she leaves my dad under their care. One day my mom decided to pick up my dad an hour earlier than planned. As she was getting out of the elevator she heard a lot of laughing. She was wondering what all the laughing was about. As she approached closer, she found the older lady kissing my dad while the staff members were standing around laughing. Oh boy, my mom was livid! Not only did the staff members allow this to happen when my mom mentioned many times to keep this lady away from my dad, but they all stood there, watched and was enjoying the whole thing! This was the very ultimate thing that finally decided for my parents to move. We've met some great staff members that were truly genuine, caring people that love the seniors. I believe the memory care unit is very poorly managed and lacks the attention and care that these seniors deserve. We put our parents in here trusting them in the hands of the Overlake Terrace staff but in the end they fell short. read more

My mother moved into Overlake Terrace in December 2018; she has been living there 11 months. At the time I was living on the East Coast (I have since moved back to Seattle), so was not involved in her search and decision about a retirement community. I wish I had been. This is my only experience with a retirement community, so maybe they all have these issues, but I hope not. My basic complaint is about incompetence, combined with management that is unresponsive. My mom's experiences have ranged from irritating (not having clothes bars for hangers in her closets for weeks after move-in), to potentially life-threatening when neither her alarm around her neck, nor the pull cord in the bathroom worked when she had a fall. Staff has never once returned a phone message. Linda White Eagle - the director of the facility - denied receiving multiple voice messages from me. Well, then you have a different problem, if your voice mail doesn't work. But frankly, I don't believe her. She knew I was mad and didn't want to speak to me, so just ignored me. The list of issues my mom has encountered is long, I will start with the most serious: - Alarm cord and alarm button (worn around the neck) did not work. She had a fall and could not get up. Luckily she was not hurt too badly, and was able to scoot around the apartment on her bottom and called me on the phone. - My mom experienced dizziness and faintness when at lunch in the dining room. Someone alerted the nurse, who got an attendant to take her back to her room - and just left her there! My mom called me, and I immediately called the nurse who ONLY THEN went to take her vitals and do an evaluation. She was severely dehydrated and ended up being hospitalized for 3 days. -My mom received a notice that her rent was going up $250 a month. She has a contract that explicitly says lifetime rent freeze. I spoke with management about it and they said it was an oversight and would be corrected. 2 weeks later my mom received another notice about her automatic bank withdrawal for rent going up $250. I don't know if this is incompetence, or an attempt to get more money hoping that residents don't remember that they have a freeze on rent. Either way, not okay. -The phone system was down for several days. Really? You have old people that may need emergency care at any time and they have no phone service? Given that the emergency alarms did not work in my mother's room, just one more safety issue. -While I was living on the East Coast my mother turned 90. I was not able to be there on her exact birthday (I returned to Seattle 10 days later) and spoke to the activities coordinator about doing something special for her at lunch time. I even called the morning of her birthday to confirm, and it STILL was not done! My mother was sad that her birthday was not remembered, and I was livid because I had tried to make it special for her even though I could not be there. This is just par for the course with this organization. -There are numerous minor issues regarding maintenance of her unit that I won't list here, but there have been quite a few. Trying to get the maintenance team to address problems is like pulling teeth. read more

We have been residents at the Overlake Retirement Community in Redmond, Washington for two years. We have seen a remarkable improvement during that time. New management, new décor,and a new chef have all contributed to our enhanced living. There is good food, new entertainments, interesting activities, and capable care givers. Its really too bad that this building went under bad management. I can understand why so many families would be frustrated. I have worked in this building for a little less than a year. Its been a really great experience so far. What you will find are people that really care about the residents, their families and their co-workers. The management has made drastic changes to assure residents needs are a priority and their staff feel appreciated and supported. My Mother lived here for 2 years and if you have an apt here its fine although the food is very processed. If you are in the Memory care unit..they are locked out of their apts all day and just line up all the people in front of a TV set..very depressing as you go down the halls and people are just left unattended in their wheelchairs. Understaffed as well! They moved my Mother 2x without my permission to other rooms and lost alot of her belongings and damaged her TV. Their moving person works there but is hired through you individually so dont expect him to care about your parents things! They lack communication skills and Management will just move people without notifying the guardians! I ended up moving my Mom to an allcare group home and have had the best experience with the firendly attentive staff that will even take my Mom for walks around the neighborhood! read more
