Anywho, eventually, we found this spot, and it was exactly how my aunt and uncle described it. Lots of nature and walking paths, and gorgeous views of the water. The campgrounds are also sizeable, and there were plenty of campers and families hanging out and enjoying the sunshine. There's also a little amphitheater area made of tree stumps and wooden benches with a wooden stage. I think you have a reserve that area if you wanna use it, though. This place is chill and great for passing the time (maybe like 2 hours or so if you meander through all of the walking trails). Also, it's pet-friendly.

Plenty of fun in the area for boating and swimming, two spots for RV/Travel Trailer camping. It's a serene and beautiful site that was more than adequate for a weekend away. If you're looking for just a night or several weeks, this campground is well maintained with beautiful views, and friendly and hardworking staff members. Truly a gem.

A few minutes drive off of 101 in Brinnon, WA you'll find Rocky Brook Falls. Across the street are a few parking spots, but beware that side is private property and there are a bunch of no trespassing signs. The entrance to the trail was not obvious to me. So I took some photos showing the path. But it's a short walk to the falls, which by the way, was a lot larger than I thought it would be! You will have to climb over some boulders to access the pool at the base of the falls, so just be aware of that. I came on a summer weekday, so there was only another couple with their dog there. You practically had the place to yourself! It has been one of the dryer summers, so I imagine after a good rainfall, the falls would be roaring and serene. Also note, there are no bathroom facilities and no cell service in the immediate area.

It's a very small footprint for the park itself, but go down one path and it opens up to a nice sized shoreline. There are signs saying that you can't do any shellfish harvesting, so don't come with your clam digging equipment, but it's a nice place to walk along the water. I came on a gray day, so it was damp and cold, but this place is probably really nice during the winter. There are also signs that you can't shoot off fireworks, so be good. Even though you're near the water, it would be a bear to get fire trucks into the park if a fire broke out.

The area is very beautiful where you see the lake and also green grass on the side. When you walk onto the beach, there are so many oyster shells that have been chucked to the side. The beach in itself is kind of smelly so be prepared for it to smell kind of unpleasant. You need to wear big boots that pass your ankle because when you go into the mud, your foot can get trapped. The texture of the mud is kind of like a clay so when you sink your foot in, you might get stuck. This happened to me several of times. The Manila clams are a good size and really easy to get. You need to bring gardening shovels and lots of plastic bags/water and hand sanitizer. It gets pretty messy digging from clams here.

The clams are really muddy with only muddy water to clean them. Watch out for clams that are empty with mud inside or with holes in the shells. You have to park near the Lake Cushman day use area, as the road into Staircase is closed for the season. We took the rapid loop trail first. The trail was fun, not too muddy, and an easy 2 1/2 miles including the short out & back to the big cedar. The trees are beautiful and the waters crystal clear. We also decided to take the Shady Lane Trail, just to take a different trail back to the van and day use. This trail was nice, but it wasn't in quite as good of shape right now. The lake was lovely too. We enjoyed a nice lunch at the day use, and got gorgeous aerial pics of its clear waters and massive boulders. The Staircase area is just beautiful. While I would've loved to stay at the campground, I prefer the peacefulness of the trails at this time of year.

You have to cross train tracks to get over to the beach and park which is worth mentioning. The playground has an area for older and younger kiddos. Restrooms are available, but not always well kept. A lot of picnic tables throughout and space to make your own picnic area if you wanted. Overall: I recommend in the summer - come earlier if you prefer it a little less crowded!

The line for the women's room looked brutally long. No honey buckets noted. A small playground is nearby. No concession stand seen but a taco truck was on site. The main parking lot is medium sized. There is an overflow lot just outside the main entrance. It offers more parking than the main lot but you'll have to hoof it a bit further. Overall the place is spacious. Lots of shade to be found away from the fields in tall timber for those few hot and sunny days. Bring folding chairs and a pop up canopy. Bleacher seating fills up fast.
