Nice beachfront. Parking can be tight in warm months and securing covered bar-b-Que....get there early. Please don't play loud music in car or waterfront. Lots of folks go there to relax and enjoy sound of beach water but most times others just intrude on your space w their sounds of music they want. Why can't natural settings be just that. read more

Sunnyside Beach Park is a nice spot to bring your family, friends, etc to spend some time in the warmer months. The paid $5 lot fills up fast in the summer however there is street parking only 1/2 mile away and you can just park/walk over. You have to cross train tracks to get over to the beach and park which is worth mentioning. The playground has an area for older and younger kiddos. Restrooms are available, but not always well kept. A lot of picnic tables throughout and space to make your own picnic area if you wanted. Overall: I recommend in the summer - come earlier if you prefer it a little less crowded! read more

I cannot believe it has taken me so long to write this review. While visiting a friend we took a drive to this beach. It is amazingly unique to any beach I have been to. The forest is right next to the beach and the trees are hanging off the cliff above. There was a huge tree that had falled off the cliff and it was covered in barnacles. The views are outstanding. I might move here. Just kidding, but it is an amazing place to visit. Plenty of parking and the walk down to the beach is equally beatiful. There was large green lawn with deer. You walk past some private residences on the way to the beach. I could live here. if I wanted to do. But nope, I am a California girl. I digress! We have lived here for over 10 years and this was our first time stopping at this beach! We went one day randomly after the Steilacoom Farmers Market which is only 2-3 mins away. It was a beautiful sunny day and my kids has a blast. I like how you don't have to walk far to get to the sandy beach area. It gets really busy on a nice day but there is plenty of space to spread out. The water is cold but you get use to it. It's kid friendly, the eater isn't choppy. There isn't much shade so bring a canopy or umbrella especially on a hot day! Tip ~ You need cash to pay for parking. You have to cross a small strip of train tracks to get to the beachfront. They have showers to rinse off Playground is fun for the kids Restaurants and I've cream nearby Get there early if you want good parking on a hot day! What a disappointment, I have come to this beach two times and not been able to leave the parking lot! The first time we had to pay cash only which of course we did not have. Now they have a machine but of course it was broken when we arrived. Its not even a great looking park and its $10 to park if the machine is even working. This summer will definitely be the summer of checking out new outdoor areas (as long as COVID-19 and social distancing allows). We were invited by some friends to check out the Sunnyside Beach Park this past weekend. This is the perfect spot for younger kids! It's not a huge park, but it's definitely a good size with a variety of things to do. There's a few beach areas where you can play in the water, hunt for crabs & shells, etc. The water was rather clean as well, which is a bonus. It was a pretty sandy beach too, so bring the pails & shovels! There is also a good sized playground here that is open. There is a larger playground meant for older kids, and a smaller playground for the tots. My toddler played on both and loved both, but was definitely more partial to the smaller one for the smaller slide. There is also swing sets with baby swings. Another fun part of this park is that it's right in front of train tracks (separated by fencing) so my son got to see his first train pass by. He was stoked! It was a cute moment that I wasn't expecting. He also got to experience his first garter snake here, which he was NOT into at all - but it was funny for me. There are covered eating areas and tables, so the option to have a picnic is wide open! People were being respectful of social distancing and I didn't see any one group too close to the next. One thing to note is that the bathroom sinks do NOT have running water as of July 12 - so be sure to bring some hand sanitizer or some water intended for handwashing! Also, be aware that you have to pay to park here ($5). Cash only. There is one of those metal slot boxes where you leave the cash in the numbered stall that you park in. read more

My family loves this park. Want to get a tan? Lie out on a towel on the beach. Want a place for the kids to burn off some energy? There's two playgrounds. Want to have a family event and BBQ? Bring your own grill or use their grills or covered tables. Need a place to take a nap? There's plenty of grass and trees. There are bathrooms, there is a spray off area, there is basically everything you need to have a great time. Parking is $5.00 for non-residents and there are train tracks where trains come by frequently on certain days. It is not a Cali beach so expect more rocks than sands Other than that, this is a great place with fun for any type of day you are trying to have. Oh and there are lots of crabs and small fish to look at. We spent a day catching and releasing some of the crabs. There were quite a few different varieties. It was so much fun! read more

Sunnyside Beach Park is a great place to bring the kids, have a picnic and lounge in the beautiful sunshine. There is a lot of space at this park. For me, it's a place to launch my kayak. I really enjoyed kayaking from Sunnyside to Chambers Bay and back. It's always nice to get out and stretch at the half way point. It's a beautiful area. The only thing that's a little bit of a pain is having to go down the hill from parking and cross a railroad to get to the beach - it doesn't make it the easiest place to launch - but worth the trouble. read more

What a perfect little spot to bring the kids and let them play in the calm water. The beach isn't huge but there is enough room to lay a blanket out and gets some sun and watch the babes play. The beach seemed pretty clean. Right above the beach area is two volleyball nets, a pavilion with tables, bathrooms, and a decent size playground. The only downfall is that there is train tracks VERY close to the beach and volleyball nets. There is a train coming every 15 to 20 minutes and there is nothing that prevents you from going on to the tracks when the train is crossing. It is extremely important to keep an eye on the little ones who might want to venture closer for a better look. Parking is not free and will only set you back $5 for an entire day. This is a good kids park but could use some signage. Its embarrassing to have to ask where the restrooms are, trying to guess where a trail starts and ends. I definitely will return as this is a beautiful park and area but the hill is quite steep for a part of the trail I went on so something to consider if you have a wagon, bike or stroller. read more

Sunnyside Beach Park is probably one of the best parks in Steilacoom and that doesn't say much because it's the only park I've been to in Steilacoom. You can get a really nice view of the water and can also see chambers bay from here which is pretty nice. The only downsides of this place is that there is pretty limited parking and cars can pay 5 dollars to park here the whole day which can be a pro and a con. This place is also right by the train tracks which gets really noisy every so often when a train passes by. Usually this place isn't that crowded but on July 4th, it was packed during the noon time. You could probably have a better experience at Chambers Bay which is a lot bigger and the view from Chambers Bay is also a lot nicer than the view from here read more

Great for families! We've visited this beach a handful of times. You can catch fantastic views of the sunset over the Puget Sound, although you do have to pay for parking if you're not a Steilacoom resident. This park is usually always busy in the summer months and the parking lot is usually always full. The park itself is actually quite small but since it offers access to the water and a somewhat unimpeded view of the water. It's a wonderful place to watch the sun set or maybe even snuggle up with a significant other or maybe even take a short walk on the beach with a first date. There is a pavilion available as well for cookouts or luaus or whatever festivities you have going on . The restrooms are reasonably clean as well. You can swim here, but there is no lifeguard. So enter at your own risk. There is a kayak rental place here as well just in case you want to paddle your way around the bay. I believe there are several scuba diving groups that launch from here as well. The only non-positive thing is that the train does come by at different intervals and the loud blowing of the horn can disturb the peace. Also, since you have to cross the railroad tracks to get to the park, if can be slightly dangerous if you're taking your kids. I do like this small park though since it's in close proximity of my house and the sunsets are perfect. If the park is too small for your taste, you can always keep following the Chambers Creek Rd and go all the way to Chambers Bay Park with is really amazing for walking, hiking, running, rollerblading, biking, and practically everything else! I don't know what I should write about a beach? I think it is somewhat clean, I have plenty of memories that lead back to this place, good and bad. Somewhat safe for dogs to be walked at the "park" but sand will mess up your car! I don't know if yesterday was warm enough to be taking a dip in the water but I just stayed on land. The weather was so nice to just bask in the sun! There is a volleyball net and some picnic tables. read more

This is an awesome little park. There is an area for playing volleyball and some grassy areas for sports or for children to run around. There is a covered pavilion area with tables and benches for parties and get togethers. The bathrooms are clean and well-maintained. The best part of this park, though, is the beach. Sunnyside is a beautiful beach for walking. The views of the Sound are spectacular, especially on a sunny day. You can also catch a glimpse of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in the distance. When a train isn't passing by and blowing its horn, it's quiet and peaceful. The park is scattered with benches which offer peaceful moments of introspection. I would love to come here to sit and write and draw and stare out at the water. read more

Steilacoom and Sunnyside Beach caught our attention a couple of times when we were riding Amtrack down to Portland. It seemed cute and quaint. For all intents and purposes it is. However it is not THAT cute and quaint. Not enough to have to pay to park just to go to the beach which is exactly what you have to do. Steve and I did it the hard way and went on into downtown Steilacoom which is not far from the beach and parked there. Downtown is also cute and quaint but quite dead. Most of the shops were closed and it was midafternoon. There is another park in downtown facing the Sound which is nice. The walk to the beach is not bad however there are no sidewalks from downtown to the beach but you can tell that many other people have the same idea that we had because there is a good path that goes straight to the park. The park is nice enough, that is for sure but not as nice as others that I have been to since I moved here even with a good view of the water and the beach. The park was busy. Mostly families that were stationed at JBLM in Lakewood. No one hassled us, a gay couple. Oh my gosh though kids were everywhere and so many women that were there had another one on the way. Talk about sticking out like a sore thumb and not being amongst your demographic group! read more

Love Love Love! My family enjoyed the park. We had a good time playing on the beach and relaxing in the shade. The play grounds convenience was great for my 3 year old to burn off some energy and an occasional train rolling through created an exciting time for him. There are no stores close by so buy your food on the way in. Disabled parking spots are available. Will visit soon again but will bring a grill for a BBQ. read more

This location is beautiful! It's a wonderful place to hang out during the summer because it's right on the water & there is beach access for those wanting to cool off. While the park is beautiful, renting the facilities is a bad idea. I rented the covered pavilion for a baby shower and the city double booked us. After the other party showed up, threatened to call the police and ruined our shower, the city refused to issue a refund. Town administrator Paul loveness was no help and sided with the community center. When booking the event, the community center wrote 12-2 on my receipt even after I had specified my event time if 1-3pm. The city is a ripoff. I will never visit here again. Don't forget about the 5$ parking fee. read more

One thing I love about living in the South sound is the parks and lakes. Sunnyside does not disappoint as I've spent many a sunny day and/or sunset night there. It's a free park with areas to have picnics as well as to just sit and enjoy. There are playground areas for those with kids. It's always been a hotspot and at night, used to get packed with teens & whatnot so I always stuck to the daytime. Beware of trains when crossing but there are big signs & you can't miss it. read more

Such a lovely park. I came here for lunch one day and it was sunny and gorgeous. The only thing that made a less than perfect experience was that the maintenance crew was weed whacking around me. Which is nice because they maintain the place really well, but it was noisy and bits and pieces of weeds, etc. were flying around me as I ate. I tried to relax on the beach, but the whacking was noisy, so I walked around and left. BUUUUUUT, I love this place, the view... there are tables and benches to sit on. You can sit on the big boulders leading down to the beach... bathrooms were clean :) Anyway, great park! read more

Perfect little beach. Has a ton of rocks (which I find to be normal around this area, we're from California so we're use to sandy beaches). But there was a lot of wildlife: crabs, jelly fish, fish etc. I took my kids there on a weekend where the town was holding a salmon fry and although the parking lot was packed and I heard people had to park a mile away to get there, it didn't seemed overcrowded at all. read more

Love this place! Had the best day of this past Summer there. I was on Yelp looking for a really nice place to surprise my husband with a sunset picnic. A fellow Yelper's review pointed me in the right direction. We couldn't have loved this place more! It was perfect. An already good day, gave way to an even better evening. The temperature that Friday in July was a hot one, so it would be a perfect evening to enjoy the outdoors. I packed up and stashed a cozy little picnic and waited for the hubby to get home. As we drove, he had no idea where or what we were doing. When we finally arrived he remembered we had talked about watching the Sunset. He was so geeked up! Lol, he loved it. The park was clean, and the views of the water are excellent! The park features picnic areas as well as a play area for kids. There's a sandy beach to play on or walk pets. The train that is literally right there, didn't bother us one bit. We enjoyed it, actually. I'd say, this is the perfect place to grab your boo, a few chairs ( or blanket), your favorite take-out or like me, pack a special little picnic and enjoy a beautiful sunset with the one you love! read more

We found this park about a year after we moved here and it's a nice change of pace from the craziness of steilacoom park and a beautiful oasis to getaway for a couple hours and it's only 5 minutes from our house. You can get a perfect view of the sunset in summer right from the beach or while pushing your children on a swing from the playground. You will love this park as much as we do for sure. read more

A very nice little town to visit, and this is a very nice and clean park. Steilacoom is the first town in Washington State to incorporate and is Washington's oldest town interesting enough there, with a lot of cool buildings and a cool park! Diffidently worth a visit and look around! read more

I love going to Sunnyside. Sand is brought in, volleyball playing area, lots of green grass areas for running and playing, covered area for eating and BBQing, playground for young ones and swings for young and old, and not to be forgotten the beach itself and an area to shower off and clean off the sand. Sunsets are spectaular and there are views of islands and the Olympic Mountains. The restrooms are pretty clean, too. There is a fee for non-residents to park, but that money is put to great use. Take the time to visit Sunnyside and see the park for yourself. read more
