In Burlington, Vermont - the Burlington Country Club is the best value (while still considering atmosphere) up there. It's less than half the cost of most other venues and they cater in-house. They've got a great, wide, covered terrace that works great for formals in the rain (I've had to do it more than once). The food is wedding food but I've had much, much worse. The staff is very efficient and the catering manager is on the ball. For an urban, indoor environment it's pretty great.

And here's why: 1) The food -- 5 stars. Lauren knows Asian food inside and out and it's all about the flavor. The food is beautifully presented, but her priority is the taste. We continue to rave about the food. Guests continue to rave about the food. 2) Lauren's professionalism -- 5 stars. Lauren was always focused and well organized. Nothing fell through the cracks. She also made sure to set us back on track if we began to get overly ambitious. She gave us a quote for the food and labor and hit it perfectly. 3) Lauren's commitment to locally sourced food -- 5 stars. Sourcing vegetables, fruits, and proteins locally is usually more expensive than the industrial option for obvious reasons, but it is a priority for Lauren to do her best within the budget she is given. 4) Working with our vision -- 5 stars. Throughout the planning process, Lauren was always innovating new ways to fit our crazy visions. When we wanted family style small plates, she made it happen. She had an idea to host a dumpling station...which was amazing and delicious!! Even though we hadn't thought of how the lanterns and candles would be lit, we turned around and her staff had lit them all. Lauren does all the right things for all the right reasons. She's smart, talented, adventurous and on the ball. There is too much good to share. The only way to fully understand how amazing she is to see for yourself. If you want to have food that people will talk about for the rest of your lives, hire Lauren.

So, when the opportunity arose to test out "A Taste of Art" I jumped at it. I wanted to see just how far I could push my lack of talent and see what results would be gathered from the experience. I attended a Paint and Sip evening at Butch + Babe's restaurant in Burlington. Upon walking in, the first thing I noticed was the intimate size of the space and that there were a few too-many-tables-to-count set up in the far right side of the restaurant for the paint event. Aside from that, I also observed a confident presence. Standing at the head of the table was a warm, eager looking lady whom I later came to learn was Sue herself! Sue had already taken the time to set up each one of our canvases, paint dollops, brushes, water, and even aprons! Though the space was a bit tight, I really felt that we had adequate room to maneuver our inner artists! Sue began the sessions by telling us a tiny bit about herself and her business. She then showed us the painting we would use as a guide and gently began to introduce us into the world of painting. I found Sue to be quite instructional and pleasant. Though she was at the very front of the space, she took the time to really engage with all of us on an individual basis. She did her best to accommodate our random artistic whims and really worked with individuals to guide them in adding character to their paintings. Sue is real, relate able, and has a calm, soothing way about her. She is very passionate about what she does and she wants to share it with the world. So go on, go hang out with Sue; bring out the artist within!

Trust me a little wine helps with any nerves you might have too! Both results were fantastic and I have them hanging proudly on my wall. We really love her style and her talent is so obvious. After a great deal of deliberation, we were able to find another photographer who we thought was also excellent. However, as weddings go, the day was crazy, and we did not take many of the photos we had hoped for, so we called Julia back up for a post-wedding shoot! I really cannot say enough positive things about Julia! She is just so much fun to work with! She makes you feel beautiful, and that shows in every shot. We decided to add on extra time and I am so glad we did - we have such an incredible variety of couple portraits at different locations. Julia is so encouraging and positive, she makes you feel like a super model - but she also gave everyone gentle instructions of where to put their hands or what stance to be in so that everyone looked perfect. My entire family raved about how wonderful, sweet, and patient she was, and her assistant Kevin was the perfect addition as he was non-intrusive and got some gorgeous shots at different angles. The final edited photographs are stunning - she captured every moment and detail perfectly. Her editing style is to enhance the natural look, so nothing is overly saturated or fake looking. Julia's pricing is more than reasonable, and I would say she was overall the best of all our wedding vendors because from start to finish she was professional, enthusiastic, genuine, thoughtful, artistic, and the final photos surpassed our expectations. The rooms were well appointed and for very reasonable rates that allowed my travel buddy and I to each have our own rooms. We felt safe and comfortable staying here. It was super convenient to the airport as well as public transportation to both downtown Burlington as well as a closer shopping center and nearby Williston. Having the kitchenette was incredibly convenient for reheating leftovers and a quick breakfast the morning we flew out. For the day we had a rental car, parking was easy and access was convenient and safe. We had good space and everything we needed and loved the small town/local vibe. It was a lovely stay and I'd absolutely come back on future trips!

The refrigerator is a midsize, btw, complete with separate freezer compartment; and the climate control is handled by a mini split so everything was up to par, modern and again another pleasant surprise.
