Because of the significant change and keeping the back area clean, they get 4 stars. Why deduct a star? The side and front of the location are not as well kept. We only camp in the summer and have been using this spot a few times each summer. I hope that it keeps improving. Last visit was summer 2025.

It's got plenty of parking (yes, even enough for our large travel trailer), extra restrooms so long lines are avoided, and everything is clean and well laid out. They even have shaded picnic tables if you need a longer break, and a pet area. Rest areas aren't exactly the most glamorous place. But when you find a good one, it's worth making a mental note for your next trip. Because once you cross that border into Oregon...the restroom pickings are quite slim.

However this trip we were on night 21 with no hookups and the forecast was to be over 100 degrees..... last minute we decided we needed a little A/C! We had no reservations on a Sunday in July and lucked out and a pretty decent spot was available, B35, with views of the river. *** I think B33, might be the best spot in the park. For a crowded park, with close together sites, it was surprisingly quiet and we had a great night sleep.

They are also extreme fire hazards. One careless cigarette and the hillside is up in flames, just like what happened on the westbound side except that this hillside continues on up to the plateau and east and west along hwy 84.

All the toilets were filthy, the cleanest one I used had poopy toilet paper on the floor. Then whoever was in the stall next to me started smoking and I ended up wheezing! So glad I brought my own toilet paper, hand soap, paper towels, and hand sanitizer!!!! I mean yes it was past 1am, but it looked like it had t been cleaned all day!! Argh! I feel like I need a shower, but I'm taking a nap at this rest stop before heading south. ‍

A lot from out of state, I think mostly from California! Cars parked on the grass area where they're not supposed to; but OTE personnel said they'll let them just to keep everyone happy; as long as they stay out of the freeway. Thanks for being considerate on this one in a lifetime event! Free coffee at the office (they have a donation jar if you like to donate, though). Bathrooms are clean. Trash is collected on a regular basis. I guess they really expected the influx of eclipse watchers and they stay on top of it!

I've never been to an Eagles club that wasn't a nice place with nice people inside :-) But the real reason for this review is for travelers like me and my wife, who just wanted to pop in to a Lodge to take a break from the road (I84, heading home from Oregon). So without giving it much thought, we plunked the address into the GPS when we left Madras, Oregon thinking that it would make a good stopping point for a rest and a pint of cold beer. When we got to the Hood River exit and started following where the GPS wanted us to go, we quickly realized this Eagles Aerie is NOT "in downtown Hood River"!! It's around 8 miles South of town, way out in the middle of farms in the country. Granted, it was a very pretty, very winding drive there and back - but I want to warn folks to not think it's right off the freeway in town. Boy, is it not!! When we finally got there, sigh, it wasn't open yet. They don't open until 4:00 - most of the Aeries around us (including our home Aerie, #3 in Tacoma, WA) open for lunch or just after. So after all of that, we never got to see the inside. For now, just this review - such that it is - and some photos. But next time down in the area, we'll stop in again and post an update.

I stopped here on 7/10/26 to have a light meal and use the clean, functional restrooms. No travel info or free coffee service available during this visit. The surrounding grounds were well maintained. I also felt safe being here briefly before continuing on my drive.

This rest stop is an oasis in the middle of.... well, basically, nowhere, Oregon…read more The Wife and I were on a road trip to vacation town U.S.A. and with "The Old Man" in the car, we need frequent stops to..... wash my hands, and stretch my legs. We pulled of the freeway at the next sign that read Rest Stop. It was a sunny day and it really made this pit stop a sight to behold. The grounds looked awesome. There is an area for walking pets, dual bathrooms on each side. Water fountains for free or for some coins, you can get something from the vending machines. Ther is also a station for brochures and maps to help your journey. There is plenty of parking and plenty of shade. It was a much needed rest and an enjoyable one ta boot.
