Its tough to describe a hunting experience when one doesn't see an animal. 4 target animals could be harvested,trophy whitetail buck,feral hog,coyotes, or bobcats. Hunted out of 2 different blinds,morning and evening. Nothing! Not even a doe . Thought Texas was over run with hogs and coyotes. Nothing! I'm a person of details. When checking out the skinning shack where I stayed, the lack off blood on the floor, the freezer that looked like its never been used got me thinking. My guide had all the right clichés though. " Your doing everything right, the deer are about to start moving" , This is hard hunting, etc ". I'm hunting over baited stands for Christ sake. Did all the game go down one hole ?!! I've never heard of any outfitter taking a deposit without providing a reservation number or a confirmation number and nothing is in writing. This place is like a BAIT n SWITCH outfit. I contacted via email Oxferd Outfitters and they said after my credit card transaction was made it's now Affordable Outfitters. This raises red flags!!! I booked a 2024 spring turkey hunt with Oxferd outfitters Jacksboro TX. Turkey hunt with unlimited hogs for 04/15 - 17/24. The guide Paul told me that shooting of Jake turkey's (young males) was not allowed. Paul took me to the hunting cabin to unload and then early the next morning to the blind that was near a feeder. My turkey decoys were then set up by me. During Tuesday I saw two turkey hens in the field. Using turkey calls I did get a male gobbler to gobble back several times. I stalked through the brush to find the turkey. Eventually I reached a fence of another land owners property. The gobbles were coming from that area. At the end of the day Paul returned to pick me up. He did not take me out for a night hog hunt. I decided to drive the dirt roads on the ranch to look for deer and hogs. All I saw were cattle no pigs or deer any where. The last day of the hunt I heard a few gobbles and saw no turkeys. The other hunter staying in the cabin with me David never told me that he took a turkey. The feeder near the blind had no deer, turkey or pig tracks. No pig trails or rutting anywhere. The pictures I was sent by James showed groups of pigs at feeders and turkey's. Carolina ranch and top of the hill camera one. My guide Paul didn't take me to those feeders. I believe that wild game at this ranch is very low in number. The hunt was a failure and a waste of time and money. I probably will not return again. read more

my son and I went hunting at oxferd outfitters on 1/23-1/25, we had a terrible time, for starters the place we stayed at was an old house, u couldn't put toilet paper in the toilet, had to put the toilet paper in the waste basket, the tv was about 14", needed binoculars to see the tv, had to use your hot spot to get started watching tv, the beds were awful, the guides jeep smelled of cigarette smoke, now about the hunting, got to our blinds, very small, I am a small man and I couldn't even turn around in the blind. chairs were to big for the blinds, all the blinds were bad, the guide said they had seen a lot of bucks and pigs, all we saw were doves, crows and cows, when the feeders would go off the cows would eat the corn, so no corn no bucks or pigs, I had to climb over a fence to get to one blind, the next day I had to go through a barbed wire fence to get the other blind, I'm 68 yrs old shouldn't have to go over and through fences to hunt. The guide kept saying that there are legal bucks and pigs on the property, but hunting for 3 days and never saw a glimpse of a pig or deer! The bottom line is don't hunt at oxferd outfitters. My son and I feel like we were ripped off from the money spend and our time we spent there. Didn't talk to the owner one time while we were there. Was looking forward to a good hunt and time spent with my son, but ended up being very disappointed in the whole experience! If you want to hunt pay more and go to a reputable hunting outfit, don't know how these people sleep at night, knowing they are basically ripping people off. read more

Don't spend your money here. There were neighbors shooting around us that they knew about and wood piles burning. We paid for 5 days James (the owner) shortened to 4 after we paid. Because he wanted another group to come in. They knew there where not enough deer to fill the tags on there ranches. The pigs come out at night and there was no night hunting. Over all he is a very dishonest man. Our guide had a truck that barely ran. The phone did not work from the blinds. So you are stuck until the guide comes back from his girl friends house. Then one day he forgot where he put my wife. read more

Hunters beware. I won't go into a long diatribe but our turkeyhunt was a complete disaster. Not only was the lodging substandard in all regards, no food was provided and no guiding was provided. Never once did the owner check in with us to see how our hunt was and if we were satisfied. Save your money and go someplace else. read more
