I haven't had sushi in a ton of different locations over the world, but I have eaten at a variety of different sushi places in the cities I have lived in - Vancouver, Kamloops, BC, and Frankfurt. Oya Rocks is probably one of the best rolls I have ever had. It is a must eat, and Oya is a must visit for this roll alone. The service - friendliness - has improved greatly as more sushi places have opened up in Kamloops. This was the one area Oya was lacking in before, and I am glad to say it has changed. read more

Being from the coast, I'm probably a little spoiled as far as fresh sushi goes. Ordered Tuna Nigiri and Spicy Ramen. The tuna wasn't fresh, but it certainly wasn't old either. The rice almost tasted a bit sweet though, which is definitely something a little new to me. Also white pickled ginger. Which was also sweet. Strange, but not bad. The spicy ramen was really nothing to write about. It is obviously packaged ramen, with just a flavor packet. You could tell by the little pieces of semi rehydrated vegetables. Waitress was super nice and friendly. Nigiri took 3 minutes, ramen took 10. Average review for an average place. read more

Consistently good service, the food arrives fast and is always delicious! As a student I was expecting to loose sushi from my diet for a few months a year but with an all you can eat deal for $15 (lunch, unsure of dinners price) I am not only able to afford sushi but I can eat as many amazing rolls, cones, appies, and nigiri as my heart desires (and stomach can handle) I definitely recommend them for anyone looking to have some good sushi around Kamloops. read more

The food is amazing will come back... Only complaint is that they charged us $1 cause our 10 month old was eating steamed rice with us... just made me feel like i was in a cheap restaurant. Oya offers a full sushi menu including all you can eat lunch & supper options. The sushi is consistent with what you'd find in Vancouver and there are a few unique rolls (including the Oya Rocks Roll) that are worth trying. read more

Decent sushi - terrible service. I had to go to the front of the restaurant just to place my order, as it seemed the waitress forgot about my family after we were seated. The miso soup was lukewarm, and we had to wait another 15 minutes for our tempura. When our "all you can eat" sushi finally arrived 20 minutes later we got a few rolls at a time and then had to wait another 10 - 15 minutes for more. At the end they even forgot about the last two rolls we ordered and we had to remind them. This is not the place to eat if you are on a tight schedule at lunch. read more

We often stop and grab sushi on our way up to SP, and enjoy Oya at the hill. The menu is different, to cater to a resort crowd, but it's much cheaper to grap sushi in town and drive up. This past weekend we picked up our sushi order. Overall I'd rate the food as 3/5 stars, however, it was the first and last time we will ever order Agedashi tofu from them. For $5.99 we officially received the smallest, most pathetic order of Agedashi tofu that we have ever had. (photo will be uploaded). The tofu pieces were 1/2 the size of a wine cork and the order contained a total of 6 pieces. We might as well have ordered a miso soup for 0.99 and just eaten the tofu in the bottom. I come from Vancouver, and I have had some of the best sushi the town has to offer. This restuant is the best I had in kamloops, the food was done right and the taste didn't cut corners like some other place in town. I have found my new favorite restaurant for sushi and it will be hard to find a another place to match in town. I rate this place in my top 10 in BC. read more

The Decor definitely needs an update, pretty much disappointing overall. Very unimpressed with their service and sushi today .. I am a loyal customer and ordered one of my usuals, and was shocked to bite down on a piece of glass that almost broke my tooth. Then when I asked if I could get a new plate or my meal for free they offered me 10% off. When I was obviously unimpressed they gave a new roll. Which they said was taken care of. Busy restaurant for a reason: good food. Among the 4 of us we had (1) the chicken donburi which was good though the veggies were slightly over cooked, (2) two different bento boxes which were also good but not memorable; the tempura was cooked well - not oily, (3) and the tornado roll which was unique and really delicious. The tornado roll is one of their specialty rolls which is basically a California roll deep fried. It's garnished with wispy potatoes, sweet mayo and smelt roe. It was worth the visit. Altogether the prices could be cheaper though it's not Vancouver but for Alberta standards, well priced. I'd go back. read more

We ordered all u can eat for dinner. Sashimi amount is good enough for $9 more option. The thickness of nigiri sushi was reasonable but rice below the fish piece was too huge. If u eat 3 nigiri, ur stomach is full. Half of current amount would be excellent. Cucumber maki was served close like California roll. I wondered why. Tea was charged for $3. Other place is usually free. $9 was charged for small Sake, which is too much comparing to $5, Vancouver area. Overall taste is around average or a bit higher but the amount they serve big whatever u order. Rice quality they use seems good enough. read more

I visited Oya a few weeks ago and was a bit disappointed. The restaurant was somewhat busy that night...but not full. Unfortunately the server paid very little attention to me. It took 20 minutes for her to take my order. The table next to me had arrived later than I had and was already eating by the time my server brought me a glass of water. My food arrived 30 minutes later. The quality of the sushi was ok. The server never once checked on me to see if my food was alright nor did she bring me a bill. Order a roll with fresh sashimi came out completely frozen. The owner clearly cared more about his own meal than talking to us about our frozen lunch. The server then proceeded to justify the frozen sashimi. Don't order the gomAe it's not worth it. Bathroom is gas station worthy at best. I DO NOT recommend this place 1)The all you can eat menu is VERY limited That if you would like dessert and teriyaki would cost extra for it. 2)A 2y.o kid had 1 piece of shrimp tempura and was charged 2 dollars for it. Great all you can eat.. the spicy tuna roll tempura is one of the tastiest things I've ever had.. Know that they do charge a fee if you don't eat all your plate, so don't order too much at once. The food is great....if and when you get it. Understaffed and popular is a poor combination here. It took 30 minutes for a waitress to come to our table, 30 for the order to be taken, and 30 more for the first food to arrive. Then on top, half the order was forgotten so it was two hours before the complete order was put together. Scrimping the few dollars a night for a busboy and/or hostess is going to make for the short term gain and long term pain for this business. Most definitely not a sustainable business practice. This AYCE was the best in kamloops. In recent years it has lost its touch. Food was getting more rice and less quality. Just this past week ate there for the last time. Nigiri with paper thin tuna and salmon on top. They chiefs are cheap and the servers are extremely clueless. read more

My friend and I ordered the all you can eat buffet, only two rolls in and my friend pulled out a dark black hair from her mouth. I couldn't finish my food after, we asked for a discount on the bill since we noticed she was charging us full price even after my friend sent the food back barely touched with the giant hair in it and the owner made us pay.
