For some reason it seems that Dublin likes to overcharge tons on getting a haircut. There's quite a few places that have deals for men, but alas us ladies get charged more and sometimes incur an extra fee for long hair! My saving grace was IS Organic. Their normal cut and dry comes in at a cool €20, what a refreshing change from the others! The staff were friendly and it was clean inside so I didn't really feel like I was sacrificing much going for a budget cut!

In other words exactly what I want in a hairdressers and for the price, well worthy of five stars. They close for a few weeks over the summer to take holidays which I think is brilliant. Understandably I think the extended closure caused confusion in other reviewers (they are back open now). It's 28 euro for a cut and blowdry with all organic products and a head massage thrown in for good measure. The Hungarian stylist, Julia (I think) is lovely and possibly the gentlest hairdresser I've ever experienced! Closed my eyes at one point and could hardly tell she was doing anything; none of the tugging you endure at some hairdressers. Showed her a photo of what I was looking for and she delivered, didn't feel rushed either. The decor is sweet and girly, the building unassuming and in need of a little love but don't judge by appearances, great price and worth giving business to.

I was just getting a hair straightening treatment and I have had loads of them done at other salons. I would def recommend Cats for it. They use different products to everyone else ie the shampoo and treatment you get are of much better quality and they also give you a conditioner so my impression is it's of superior quality to other salons and the whole thing doesn't cost anymore. Ontop of that I had Sharon doing it and she gave me loads of suggestions for my hair. Even down to minor things like most salons ask where do you want your parting but Sharon had put it in a way that was much more natural and suited my face much better. I have a small face and she was suggesting a few things. I can tell hair is her passion as she just loves talking hair. Also recommending the right conditioner type / product for my hair. Anyway I was very happy with the overall experience and would definitely recommend Cats to do the treatment and Sharon to get your hair done. She's very professional and like I say hair is her passion so it's nice to get some great hair tips thrown in.

Firstly, she got a GREAT haircut. She's fussy with her hair, and was very happy. Second, the staff were friendly and polite, and didn't chat in that tiring, airy meaningless way. The coffee was great too. I winced a bit at the €55 bill but apparently that's what it costs for a woman's cut and style in Dublin (same price as Peter Mark). Only criticism is that it was slightly messy (not unclean, just messy) inside, but it's a smallish place and was manically busy, so probably to be expected. I've been getting my hair cut by Carlin Doran, owner and head stylist at Flatiron, for many years…read morenow. He is one of Dublin's very top hair stylists, if not the top and I literally couldn't imagine anyone else cutting my hair for as long as I live. This man can work wonders. Every time I leave I feel like it's a better cut than the last and that's saying something given he's always given me a top class haircut. His new location is situated just above Butlers on the corner of South William St. and Wicklow St. with the entrance here. He's newly acquired a large space and he's put it to great use. Coming here is like coming to see a mate, who just so happens to be one of Dublin's top hair stylists. He's got two other stylists working alongside him in Dean and Cara who are also both fantastic at what they do. He's got the iPad set up to play any song that suits your mood, espresso while you wait, beers on ice and a vast range of hair products, such as Bumble and Bumble, that he's specifically imported in from the states. It's all in the details that proves they know what they're doing in Flatiron. Everything from the chairs to the lights has been meticulously thought out to ensure that you not only have a great experience while you're there, but that you also leave with a world class haircut. Flatiron is a hair stylist for both men and women too. From kids to the matures, everyone is catered for here and treated equally. My mam has also been getting her hair cut by Carlin and coloured by Dean/Cara now for nearly ten years, and she would swear by them. And to the guys - you know who you are - who are happy to pop down to your local barbers, spend €6 to get your hair hacked off and proceed to moan about it afterwards? I'd suggest giving Flatiron a shot. Sure, it's a little more expensive but the way I look at it is, you'd spend €30-€50 on a top every month that you'll only wear once or twice a month. You wear your hair every single day, so why not spend that little extra on it to make it look as best it possibly can. You'll never return to your local barber again! Trust me, Ladies and Gents, if you're looking for somewhere new to go or even if you're not, you would only be doing you and your hair a massive disservice by not popping into see these guys. You've all heard the horror stories over the years of trainees/junior stylists making a horror show out of someone's hair! Why tempt fate by going to the chain stylists such as Peter Mark or House of Colour? Go to Flatiron. They're pros. They only thing you'll be regretting when you leave is why you didn't go here sooner.

I've visited Dean there twice now and each time he has done a fantastic job and, crucially, exactly what we discussed at the beginning. I surprise myself writing that, but I've found that with certain hairdressers and barbers this is not always a given. What has me thinking I'll stick with Flatiron long-term is that Dean, for one, truly takes the time to listen to what I'd like before lifting a single tool and, as odd as this sounds, works with you to achieve the finished style. Given the amount of Yelp reviews of Dublin barbers I could (and may yet) post, I surprise myself even more saying I see myself becoming a regular. But I do. Finally, as uncouth as it may be to mention money, do come prepared to spend more than you might at a barbershop nearby. On the flip side, even us guys should expect a visit to last the guts of an hour. PS As a complete aside, the space's interior, tucked away above Wicklow St, is really something; simple, but finished to a very high standard.
