I recently asked for John's advice for selecting and cooking a piece of pork (I'm not really a very good cook) and between him and Allen (another member of the Troup Team) it was prepared and cooked surprisingly well ! It's an old-school village butchers shop with many of the customers shopping there for many, may years. Troup's also sells a selection of vegetables (displayed outside the shop), home-made pies and pates. Easy parking too with the old station car parking area opposite the shop. A really lovely, friendly place in a very nice Royal Deeside village. Five stars !

Wonderful butcher in an accessible area of town…read more Paul Smith is open on a Saturday which is great if you work during the week. There is plenty of parking at the back. Inside you are welcomed by a small shop and butcher counter and lots of fresh veg outside. The staff are always friendly (even if you turn up 2 minutes before they close because you have forgotten the bacon for Sunday breakfast!) The shop sells local produce, Kelly of Cults breads and cakes and other veggies, chutneys and produce from the area. The butcher counter sells good meat and the staff will advise you on the best cuts or ways to cook the meat you are buying. This is a lovely local butcher and worth a visit.

Macdonald Brothers did not disappoint. The choice and quality they had on dispay was huge for what was a realatively small shop. We decided on venison burgers and fillet steak - it was maybe a bit pricey but it was the real deal. The venison burgers were very tasty and filling and the fillet steak was very thick and tasted excellent. The service was first class - the standard of hygien displayed was first class and the butcher who served us was so helpful and friendly. A sham it is so far from home - maybe next time I'll bring some things home for the freezer

I live in Aberdeen and regularly drive out to Foveran to The Store…read more This is a farm shop selling meat (beef and lamb) produced in their own farm, they also buy in fruit and veg, storecupboard ingredients and chicken (free range) from other local suppliers to sell in the shop. The meat really is first class, the sausages are very good quality and they very often do a '3 for 2' deal to save a few pennies. The ladies in the shop are always so helpful and willing to give you advice on how to cook the produce. They also produce very good quality ready meals, pies, lasagnes and much more these are very tasty. I would highly recommend a drive out here but if it is a little out of your way they are often at the Farmers Market on Belmont Street, and I believe they have a shop in Edinburgh.

Easy to navigate, gorgeous to look at( photos and graphics brilliant), and the follow through delivery service, packaging and product excellent. Fast turnaround from order to delivery, no hassle delivery chap that just left box where I asked, well packed to stay cool, and reasonably dog proof, pleasing packaging and graphics to give you that 'special' online delivery feeling. Had their 42 day aged fillet and did an 'at home' taste test to compare with their 28 day fillet; an indulgent and fun exercise... But well worth a shot; both cuts were of high quality and superior. On a separate occasion ordered a huge number of their sausage rolls; again ordered on a Thurs, delivered on the Friday and eaten by the masses on the Sunday...lots of positive comments on them too. However, on the left side is the deli and takeaway bit, manned by unfriendly and pretty incompetent females. One day I went in for a roll and one of the ogre's openly bitched about me. On a separate occasion, I was waiting to be served and had to leave immediately when I witnessed the tall blonde put salt on her hand and lick it off three times, then go serve someone without washing her hands!! Ugh. Won't be back for takeaway. Would consider returning for butcher meat though. It's almost like being in a different shop.
