What more could you ask for in the heart of an up-and-coming neighborhood like Brooklyn? I live just behind The Brooklyn Station and I find myself here nearly every day. Regency centers owns this shopping plaza and they do a nice job of keeping it maintained and up to date. They are currently paining and doing some stucco work to keep things nice and fresh. There is plenty of parking and although it gets very busy at lunchtime it's pretty easy to maneuver your way through it (just watch for pedestrians!) Rumor has it the JTA Skyway is working on plans to expand its way into the Brooklyn area (first expansion in 25+ years) and I believe this will do wonders for these local businesses when they finally are connected to Downtown & Lavilla.

The shopping center is in good condition with a ratchet Publix but also Family Dollar and T-Mobile and a Chinese buffet. Starbucks and Wing Stop and a Bealls Outlet. I just hope it doesn't go down anymore than it already has. But it continues to stay pretty busy and it has Publix as the large anchor store here. JSO (Jacksonville Sheriff's Office) has a large sub-station in this shopping center, so thanks to that, I always feel safe here. If it weren't for that fact, I honestly don't know that I'd continue to shop here. Parts of the parking lot have been repaved... others have not. So, depending on where you are in the parking lot, watch out for large potholes! In addition to Publix, DD's Discounts has just opened a new, large store here. You'll also find a Family Dollar, Sally Beauty Supply, Bealls Outlet, GameStop, and Bailey's Gym. There's also quite a few smaller stores here. If you're looking for something to eat, there's China Buffet, Cici's Pizza, and Firehouse Subs (to name a few). In the parking lot, you'll find Checker's and Starbucks in their own buildings. I remember when they built the SBUX here... I honestly didn't think it'd stand a chance, so I'm honestly surprised to see it still standing. You'll still see Dollar Tree and Radio Shack on the large sign for the shopping center; however, Radio Shack is about to go (they have their "going out of business" signs up) and Dollar Tree has moved down the street a few blocks into it's own building.

One of the first businesses to catch our eye was the Insomnia Cookies! Soupa Noodle Bar anchored the Northern end of the plaza and Class UFC Gym is at the South end. In between is an assortment of businesses including Senor Loco Taco, Kazu Sushi Burrito, Niore Nail Bar and Pizza Hut. We were just reading an article about Pizza Hut closing a bunch of locations- I wonder if this one will survive the cut. Because this little plaza was built in a large parking lot in front of the movie theater- there is an abundance of parking. There is some cross cutting traffic because of the location.... I may be guilty of that myself- especially right now with the movie theater closed. This little plaza packs a punch with food- and is a good addition the the Tinseltown area. Most of the stores have closed, but I do hope that new businesses will move in soon. Snookers is the main focus of San Mateo Village. It's a cool little pool hall where hubby and I have been going for over a decade now. You'll also find Price Rite Food Store which is a small convenience store that I frequent fairy often to get my cigs. There's also a nail place. Yep, that about sums up this little shopping center. River City Marketplace has caused a lot of the little businesses around here to close. I don't think Snookers has anything to worry about though; therefore, San Mateo Village will live on.
