It's not a secret that this is one of the best few blocks at the beaches. Whatever your heart desires you can find at, in and within walking distance to the Beaches Town Center. Breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner. Coffee, bars, desserts, and other sweets. Healthy eats, shopping, and the beach. You'll have easy access to so many options. The biggest challenge is deciding where to go. The second is the parking. There are paid spots across several blocks, and some restaurants have valet. Definitely one of my most favorite areas. read more

This is a great place to do a restaurant and bar crawl! Ernie and I come here to park and walk on the beach at night. They have top dollar and bottom dollar hotels here in the area. Ragtime always has a band on Fri/Sat and is a lot of fun. Pack em in like sardines! They have a small dance floor. I love Whit's ice cream, Hawkers, North Beach and Joseph's Pizza that is doggie friendly. Don't forget to visit the Famous Pete's Bar and the Lemon Bar also. They also have a few stores to shop in as well. Have fun and be safe. read more

If you are looking for a charming little beach town with side walk cafes, and super dog friendly restaurant spots for drinks and eats, make sure to put this address in. You will be in the midst of this all. You will be steps from Atlantic Beach and Neptune Beach as well. These beaches are nice, clean, and calmer than other sides of East coast beaches I have seen. I love this area and this shopping center. It's small and all local shopping spots. It's not a mall by any means. It's just simple stores all next to each other. Red Daisy for fun home items and Bali for cool jewelry and accessories are my fave spots here as well! read more

This isn't St. John's Town Center, but this section of the beaches where Atlantic Beach & Neptune Beach kiss and Atlantic Blvd meets the ocean offers a nice area to walk around and window shop, sip some coffee at a cafe, or grab a drink with friends. It's definitely becoming one of my go-to destinations of the Beaches area. The streets are lined with shops & restaurants of all sorts. Clothing, home decor & health food; burgers, sushi & tacos. Pick your poison. It's also the center of action for the big Dancin' in the Streets festival every summer. I haven't been to this extra large street party in years, but it's always a popular event. They've been repaving some of the roads lately, so be careful as the road access varies from week to week. Parking can be interesting. There is a lot of street parking and some of the business have private parking lots. And there is a valet area as well. Just be careful to pay attention to all the signs and make sure you're in the right area for where you plan to be. Parking is prime real estate in this area, and I know the businesses are protective of their spots. read more

If I ever move to the beach, I'd want to live close to the Beaches Town center. It's like a small town in itself, with a super beachy vibe and everything is within waking distance! So, you start the day at Lillie's, with some coffee in the awesome shady courtyard... pick up a Folio and knock out some morning work tasks... Then head on over to Bali Cargo and drool over the unique and killer jewelry, or pick up a couple of cute decorations for your home. Browse the other shops with everything from handmade soaps, beachy fashion or even some stand up paddle boarding lessons. There are tons of food options, to hit whatever your stomach desires. Head on over to Sliders for some fresh oysters... Mezza for incredibly fresh and artfully put together dishes, Poe's for a great burger, Flying Iguana for some quac and "not your average" tacos. Don't feel like driving home? Walk on over to One Ocean, and make it a staycation. Seriously though, a great little walkable gem that has just about everything. read more

Navy Exchange-Mayport Mall

I've been shopping at Navy Exchanges for over 20 years and found great deals on all kinds of items…read morethrough those years. In fact, prior to Covid, this NEX was always busy and always worth a visit. I will have to say in the two cities that I lived in after Covid (San Diego and JAX), the NEX overall has not been the same. The change-out of items (seasonal for example) is not as frequent, but to the NEX's credit, nice 40% off sales are much more frequent and scratch cards too. It is much slower at this NEX than it was on my last Navy tour in San Diego. Perhaps most people are shopping internet now, as there are great deals to be found there too. But military members and retirees will have to pay tax for items on the internet, not at the NEX. It is a blessing that the Exchange is tax-free for those of us who have served. For people to shop here, they must be active or retired with 20 plus years of service. But there are some other qualifications too, but anyone who can shop here would see the privilege stamp on their military ID card, including spouses. I visit here usually twice a week. After my workout at nearby gym, it's easy to visit and sometimes frequency brings great deals for me or the perfect items in my size before they get seized by someone who came to the NEX ahead of me (once your size is gone, you won't see it again). I like checking out the clothing area - they do have some very good brand names here. Kuhl, Carhartt, 511, Columbia, Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, Vans, and more! I like to look for shoes as well. I find the supply rather limited but I have found some good Sketchers pairs at times. I get my vitamins here generally, electronics items as well. Though the shop is not as busy as it used to be, it still wouldn't be wise for military sorts who have shopping privileges to shop here to avoid it. They would certainly lose great opportunities to save money. On another topic, in the passage area to the NEX there are a few shops of high use for me as well. One is the ball cap area - it has excellent military ball caps for those who serve(d) in all branches of service. Also, there is a card shop, souvenir shop, and furniture/bed shop too. In general, the staff here is friendly. Most are quite helpful when you need assistance or missed a discount at the counter. In the meantime, I'll keep stopping by after my gym visits to see when I can strike a golden deal here again! Recommend: MED-HIGH

It has been a long time since I was last in a Navy Exchange or Commissary. I was with my mom, who…read morehas retiree benefits, but it has been more than two decades since I was in the Navy, so my access has been limited to places like this for a long time. For some reason, the Navy has never had a strong attachment to their ability to provide for their sailors, and realistically it would be nice if NEX and AAFES would simply join forces properly and become the providers for all the military branches. This is the second NEX that I know of that is located outside the bounds of a base... the other is on the West side of Orlando International Airport. But enough of that... let's take a look at this store. I guess that this is a smaller store because it only has to provide for naval personnel out of Mayport, which is not really a large base. If personnel need something that this store cannot provide, they can head over to the larger store on Jacksonville NAS. As such, the Exchange provides minimal items, mostly uniform provisions, and then the commissary provides some level of food. However, when looking at the prices that both of these stores have, unless you need uniform items you are probably just as well off to go to your local grocery store or Walmart. The exterior court that is common with every exchange I have been in was kind of dismal as well... the only real operating store there was the barber shop, which isn't surprising (I did feel a bit out of place with my hair cascading down to my shoulders... I haven't had my hair that short since I got out of the Navy!) So... not really a lot of selection, not a great price performance thing, so not worth going to these shops for any real reason. However, it was interesting to see them and compare to what I remember from days long ago.

John and I frequent Jerry's Sports Bar and Sienna's Italian Restaurant as well. This center has multiple access points along Atlantic and one on Hodges. The Hodges access can be problematic if you are turning left into or left out of- too many accidents happen between the cross traffic. I avoid making a left in or out of the center from this point. Also- the parking lot is odd at the Eastern/Hodges end- there is a curve and split upon entry to either go straight into the parking or curve towards the front lane driving along the storefronts; you naturally want to go straight- but then are forced to make a left and right to get back in front of the businesses. Unless you are going to one of the first 4 stores, it's inconvenient. The plaza is older, but has plenty to offer. We have even used the dry cleaners here. I also frequent the Ace and the bank. I am in this center at least once a week.

I also purchased eggs, butter, red wine vinegar and olive oil. I was in and out in about 10 minutes, and my bill was $31.46. I used self check out, with no wait. This store is a few years old now, but it's clean and still in good condition. The restroom was the cleanest and nicest smelling I've seen in any Walmart and is located beside the produce section. I recommend this location, especially if you don't want to walk a mile for a few items.

When I looked on Yelp, this was the only local bookstore for miles (the next closest is Books-A-Million). They are located within Beaches Town Center and are just one block from Neptune Beach. They are a small but mighty bookstore with plenty of options for everyone. The staff was amazing and quickly asked if we needed help finding anything. I mainly like to read fantasy and was able to find some books I hadn't heard about before. I really enjoyed reading the staff recommendations which are small pieces of paper nestled between the pages of the book. I thought that was such a cute detail and made the shopping experience more interactive. If you love books, I highly recommend checking out The BookMark!

There are too many teen-oriented books and toys, but every good business must follow the money. They also used to have a great magazine selection, which has been significantly reduced. The arts section could be larger as well. This location beats going to the competitor in Town Center with the difficult parking. I also like to patronize independent book stores, and we have some great ones in the area. Of course, no one can deny that they occasionally purchase from Amazon, which has been the root cause of the death of independent bookstores.
