This is a YMCA program that is actually hosted at Whitney Elementary School in Anacortes. The…read moreprogram shares a lot of the same spaces as the school; however, for toddlers is housed in a portable building near the playground. Hours: 6:45am to 5pm (actually it may be 5:30) Staff: Currently run by Crissy Floe and a fairly stable group of teachers. Ages: Starts at age 1 Overall this is a GREAT option for child care in Anacortes. They have a good toddler to teacher ratio and are always doing some sort of different enrichment activity. The other awesome thing is they provide meals, so no more making a ton of food to take in if you have had to do that in the past.. You do need to provide diapers, wipes, a blanket, and a change of clothes. Activities include taking walks, going to the library, playing outside, reading, etc etc etc. There are also at least monthly evening activities including a Parent's night where they will watch the children in the evening so the parents can go on a "date night" if they desire. Overall if you are looking for daycare this is THE PLACE to go in my opinion if your hours follow theirs. They do have part time options as well. The spots can be filled so get on the wait list before your child turns one if you want them to go here.

We have absolutely loved some of the teachers my boys have had over the time they have been going there and I know when I drop them off to go to work that they are in good hands. This place is the best…read more The staff is great, they go out of their way to take great care of our kids. They run a day care but there is a learning curriculum also so your kids dont just play with blocks all day. You dont have to go everyday as long as you schedule in advance, like every M W F or something. They really are teachers not babysitters, they teach manners, social skills and some school stuff like letters and they read in a group to the kids. Great place to take your kids.

I was a student who just graduated from med smart Feb/26th/2024 and not only do I feel fully ready in terms of knowledge I feel ready in terms of spirit as she lifted each of us up and was there for every question . I was already a CNA for 4 years but let my license lapse after my kids needed mom around more and finally with only one teen in the house left I knew it was time to retake the schooling and go back to being a CNA and man did Margie help me feel good about my choices to go back into healthcare . A must - what an experience! Forging red hot metals and hammering it to form art - who knew it…read morecould be so much fun?! My son gives it a million thumbs up. In the middle of the class he comes up to me - all serious and said "this is so much fun" - but really serious. lol :) We took the beginner class Paul offers once a month on Saturdays. 8am-5pm - bring a sack lunch. He starts off with a tour of his amazing workshop - he's been doing this for 35 years and makes AMAZING stuff. I didn't even know you could do so much with metal - from making functional tools, to beautiful and super detailed works of art! He gives a brief history of blacksmithing, and then a 1 minute scare on the dangers involved. It's really not as bad as it seems. Just follow the safety directions and there's no problem at all. It's really very safe unless you're messing around. We started with an ordinary bolt and hammered the head into a nice design, something you'd see in a fancy hardware store - and we made it ourselves and it was easy! We moved on from there to forming a fancy hook. I have a bum arm so Paul helped me with the hammering and i did what I could. Lastly we made shepherd's knives which are really beautiful - sort of ancient looking, and in fact, these are exactly the same types of knives people forged hundreds of years ago. This was probably the most exciting class my son has ever taken. I had an amazing time as well, even with my bad arm and not being able to do the hard hammering. I was able to do some small side projects that my arm could handle while the others were working on their knives. Paul was very accommodating that way. There were 4 students in the class. He takes up to 6 people, and everyone is working on their own pieces. I highly recommend this class. It would make the BEST present for any boy, any age, and actually any girl or woman as well! Paul told us that of the people in the U.S. that do this professionally, a large percentage are women! :) Sorry for the long-winded review, but the class was THAT amazing! :)
