Our last two nights of our journey were spent in Seattle at the Shafer Baillie mansion. I would highly recommend staying here. The location was great for getting to downtown and all around. It is close to the Cap Hill neighborhood with shops and restaurants. There is plenty of street parking in the vicinity. The mansion itself is part of what was known as Millionaire's Row. It was built in 1914 and has been well cared for over the years. When we came back from one evening out, we all gathered in the Library and set up some charcuterie and wine to share from our travels. It was so cozy sitting all together and chatting about our adventures. The rooms are historic with modern conveniences. Our room was the Queen Ann Hill. We slept soundly in our comfortable 4 poster bed. There was a helpful step stool for me to climb up as I am vertically challenged. It has original pushbotton light switches. It had a beautiful full length mirror. There was a flatscreen TV, but we had so many wonderful activities we did not use it. The bathroom was updated but still fit with the historic look. There were two showerheads in the tiled shower. Breakfast was lovely. I, personally, have a great deal of food allergies. There was ample selection that I was able to enjoy just as much as anyone else. There were breads and pastries, jams and spreads, yogurt and fresh berries, and a hot breakfast dish. Hard boiled eggs were available as well as cheeses and meats. There was a coffee bar that was available all day that also had tea and cocoa. We sat at the long dining table enjoying each others company and conversation. We got to meet some of the other guests which added to the experience. If we find ourselves back in Seattle, this is where I will want to stay.

The house is located in a nice quiet neighborhood and has beautifully done garden. It is clean and decorated nicely. It includes all the necessities to be comfortable in your home away from home. The on site parking is a big plus! It is also conveniently located to all the sites. The beds and sheets were awesome and the bathroom has heated floors! Such a nice treat! Be as comfortable as possible since they were going to stay for 2 weeks in one spot. My husband found this great rental condos just a few blocks away. John and Sir Rocco were a pleasure to deal with. John took the time and let us view one of the 2 bedroom condo's since it was still getting ready for the next guests, we tried to stay out of the housekeepers way and it was nice to see how meticulous she is in cleaning . The whole place looks even better in person then the pictures... And booking the unit on their website and dealing with Sir Rocco with a few last minute questions were a snap, he texted me back almost immediately with the answers. This will be our family's and friends "Go-To" place from now on. No more downtown hotels for us.

We didn't want to be fussy crybabies so we mentioned it but nothing happened. They rented it out and we were going to extend because it is a convenient location. Well after we left them they noticed how filthy it was, I did clean but the rugs were terrible, the previous tenant flipped the rug and I guess they didn't notice it then. So beware, it seems like a money hungry not honest kinda place.

On selling…read moreus on renting this place, communication was good, and the pictures looked nice, clean and well-finished. Turns out the prices were too good to be true. We had to scramble when the wrong keys were left, the apartment was filthy (our feet turned black from the dirty carpet, which took a week to get cleaned), and the wiring from the walls was exposed. The finishes were beyond amateurish - I sliced my finger on the vent hood (which didn't work) because the edge was exposed, baseboards ended abruptly, leaving holes between the floor and the wall, the closets reeked of mold, and the window screen were falling out (where they were installed). The real cherry on top was that the bedrooms had NO smoke alarms. We had to buy our own to plug in. The maintenance on this building was appalling. We had ants and flies filling the apartment at various points, a wasp nest was right off the staircase, and there were insufficient utilities. All of the units shared a wifi password, and, at one point when my children (3 and 4 years old) were watching a show, someone casted porn onto our TV from another apartment. There was also one recycling bin for a 6 unit building, which was woefully insufficient. (According to guidelines from the city, 1-2 families should share a bin of the size provided.) And the hot water routinely ran out by the time I was done with a 5-7 minute shower. We reported these issues and were met with either silence or patchy solutions that took forever to be enacted. The place literally made us sick by the time we moved out. Finally, dealing with Dale was a headache in and of itself. We maintained our unit as best we could, even hiring a housekeeper while we were there to keep it as clean as possible. However, when Dale had a single issue to communicate with me (that I should have been stacking my recycling differently), he emailed, texted, and confronted me in person (when I had never met him in person and had no idea who he was) to yell at me about it instead of addressing me courteously at all. Further, he unprofessionally exposed my personal information to the other tenants and insulted me when I called him out for it. His initial response to basic communication was to insult first, backtrack later. He was and unprofessional and rude person to interact with, and I highly advise people that, if you can afford it, to stay away from this company.

Big Ruby was quiet, cozy, and stocked with everything we needed or wanted. The little bedroom nook in the hull felt like a childhood fort, with lots of pillows, but also all grown up, with a foam top and nice bedding. The sound of the rain was soothing on the night we stayed, and with the subtle rocking of the boat--we slept well. Boat "heads" (bathrooms) are usually pretty tiny and dark and not exactly luxurious, but this one was bright and nice! The living area/kitchen had sharp knives, lots of cookware, and copper Moscow Mule mugs! We made some coffee (part of a cute welcome spread we found waiting for us when we checked in) and had a really peaceful morning, just lounging and reading at the kitchen table. We'll definitely be back in the summer!

A bit intimidating at first for me (the wife) we ate out mostly, as we are originally from Seattle and came up from Portland and reconnect with friends. The Big Ruby was immaculate, well stocked, and really quiet! We loved it! I would highly suggest reading the PDF that Marcus will send to you. Just makes the whole process a bit smoother whith checking in/out. We also found the marina market enough for coffee and a breakfast burrito each morning before we headed into town. Only have this issue 1-2 times a month - package room sucks, I've had a $100 package stolen once - when I first moved in the walls weren't repainted well (previous owner had painted the walls dark grey and it was seeping through in some places) and floor had some paint splatters - dogs are often left unleashed (even though it's not allowed) on the rooftop and it's annoying when you're trying to eat food or something up there - not many restaurants within 5 min walk. Especially lacking in those open after 5/6pm Pros: - Air conditioning in your apartment (which is a luxury in Seattle) - amazing rooftop (but most mid rises in first hill/caphill have decent rooftops) - fast maintenance and never any major issues - very nice staff for the most part - apartments are well maintained - decent gym - good study/work rooms - free printer (10 prints a month) - free wifi throughout building - fun social events, sometimes very well catered too - fairly safe location and very close to Whole Foods

The good The…read moreapartments are nice as they are new, and the aesthetics are pleasing. That said, they are nothing special compared to other new buildings in Seattle. The units have A/C, which are hard to come by in Seattle, and this is specifically nice when forest fires happen--you can at least be sure that you will not have to breathe ash. The location is great, you have most of what Capitol Hill has to offer within a few minutes walk, also downtown is just a short walk away. The bad There are only two elevators serving all 16 floors. At time it takes forever (say 5 minutes) to get down to the lobby, especially when someone is moving and the other elevator is blocked. At least the elevator says "sorry to keep you waiting", so I guess that makes it alright? But if your Uber is downstairs, it can be really annoying. The lobby regularly smells like trash, the building has been working hard to fix this, so some days it is pumped up with synthetic smell to make it better. For how much we pay, and how much they brag about the building, this should not happen. More on trash, every floor has a room with chutes that rarely work, so they put in recycling bins in every floor now, sometimes, the door barely opens LOL look at all the pictures on Yelp, they are real. I did some digging, and there was a complaint filed with the city because someone living near one of the trash rooms had smell issues in the units. More on smells, the building has a shared ventilation system. It is used to ventilate bathrooms, kitchen fumes, laundry, etc. You should keep the fans running at all times, unless you want to smell when your neighbor is going number 2, or when they decide to smoke cigarettes indoors. More on poop, the dog run is generally full of dog poop. It is disgusting to take my dog up there, and if your dog decides to poop at night, you are in a shit minefield--and you better have a flashlight with you. It is normal to see a trail of poop all the way to the elevator from someone scraping their shoes because they stepped on doodie. Parasites anyone? (see attached pic of email they sent, yet poop violations are rampant) The ugly Not happy with how they have handled leases - been told that my lease would renew month to month at a higher rate if I took no action, yet my lease explicitly prohibits this. When I tried to give notice--I always have done it over email in the past two apartments I have lived in Seattle--they said that I needed to complete a form that they provide. The form says that I agree not to receive my deposit if the unit is not professionally cleaned, and I had to show a receipt or pay a $200 fee. The lease says to follow move out instructions if they have been provided, which they were not, and I only need to return the apartment in a clean condition, no one said anything about detailing. In fact, when I moved in, it wasn't even that clean. There was construction dust everywhere, as I was the first tenant. Waiving security deposits and paying additional cleaning fees is not something that I had agreed to, so what gives? In my previous experience, landlords take on these expenses as part of doing business. Moreover, they said they would not accept any notices by email, yet I filled the form in my iPad, emailed the paper to them, and it was fine? The lease agent even told me that this was state law and that it was the only way to give notice... I am still rolling my eyes. Please do yourself a favor and check any of the other apartment buildings in Seattle, this is the first time I have been loaded with undisclosed fees, procedures and forms. Other buildings will likely be cleaner too. Why are there few bad reviews? Because management will call you to chat, and offer you money to put the review down. Also management is writing reviews for their own building, at least Yelp removes them when you flag them! Update: I received my move out statement with two extra charges totaling $104 extra. Make sure you read everything they charge you. This is not the first time they try to sneak-in extra fees.
