Saw the world premiere of "Fostered", And it was exceptionally well done. Fast-paced, well-written, directed and acted. An intimate 99 seat theater without a bad seat in the house. Parking in Venice can be a little tricky. However, there was plenty of parking in the neighborhood a block away. Saw a FANTASTIC play called DEMOLITION. It was my first time here. They have a small parking lot that holds like maybe 30 cars. They have 3 single room bathrooms. Comfy seats for a small venue. Usher is very helpful. Very interested to see what other plays they have in the future. Small lobby & waiting area that sells a limited selection of drinks & snacks. read more

PRT is a hidden Los Angeles treasure! Although I attended many performances through the years, I finally became a series subscriber about ten years ago. Marilyn Fox never disappoints us and provides us with a wide range of plays, from the classics to new productions. The latest , "Miracle on 55th Street" was so well-written and performed that I brought friends and saw the play four times! This is also one of the best bargains in town and makes theatre accessible. Community theatre is alive and well-attended in Venice, California. Yesterday afternoon, as a Father's Day gift to my amazing partner and my 3rd husband ( 3rd times a charm ), we attended a 3p matinee called Bespoke Overcoat. Arriving on the early side, the parking lot was packed but not completely full. Easy parking and free. As we turned the corner, dozens of people of all ages were mulling around and frankly, I was confused by the crowds, but then realized they had 3 shows all mounted in their cozy theaters... how special is that? I was so thrilled to see how many people in our westside community were there supporting this theatrical institution established in 1985. The show itself was not our "cup of tea", however the performances by each actor were amazing ! They also are a charitable organization and I brought in an overcoat to donate. I am so impressed by the entire encounter that we decided to subscribe. I love my westside community and support so many of our small businesses... this gem is so special and the people working there were so lovely and welcoming! We will be back soon... so happy that my dear friend Mer recommended our attendance here... What a wonderful Father's Day present and special afternoon experience! Highly recommend! read more

UPDATE Booked a ticket for tonight's new show, a preview on Thursday January 25. Unfortunately something unpleasant came up, so I couldn't attend. Due to extensive traveling I won't be able to schedule another date. I called the Box Office and the lady told me, although it's very unusual to do so, she would return the money on my card minus $1 fee. Thank you, Pacific Resident Theater, for being flexible and so kind to transfer money back. Highly appreciated!! TRUE WEST - SAM SHEPARD PLAY One of Sam Shepard's 44 plays is True West" and tonight was the first night. More than excellent performance by both Michael Hanson and Ron Geren who also respectively produced and directed the play. Strong and intense. A definite must-see when you like Sam Shepherd. It was my first time at the Pacific Resident Theater: an intimate space with, probably not more than 40 seats (didn't count but don't think there are more...) What an absolute pleasure this was. From the moment I purchased my ticket for $15 at the door (made a phone reservation) till the moment I drove from the parking lot it's been fun. It's indeed a small theater, get a beverage in the small room next to the entrance where big photographs on the wall are definitely turning this into a place you just want to hang out after a play. In order to go into the theater one had to walk outside again and wait till the door opened. Coffee was $1, I mean: seriously? That's all? It was the cutest little theater. Having said that: that doesn't take away from great things happening on stage. This is a hands-on theater (actors swap props themselves between different acts which shows you the enormous amount of hard work... during 1,5 hour there's no break at all for them). This theater is a neighborhood gem to be cherished. We need more of these in LA. For sure. Go and watch a play here... read more

( twice at the P.R.T., and last Oct. at the UnUrban Coffee House in SM) ...without losing herself, Suzy inhabits, vocal characteristics, body and hand movements, and even the particular phrasing, of Judy Garland...already planning to get tickets to the next show, before it sells out. A great intimate setting, and Rita, ( the hostess with the most), keeps the line moving, and the coffee and cookies circulating! Go, see for yourself! read more

I've seen two plays here so far one was good, the other was hilariously awesome (Anatol). The quality of the acting is very good. The tickets are typically $20 and, in the theater I've been in, there are only 99 seats. So you are guaranteed a good seat. They have refreshments for purchase like cookies and soda. The first time I went they had wine too. It's a very small theater, but we like to get dressed up. It's a good time for a good price! read more

We went to see Fried Meat Ridge Road and laughed really hard! Fun and unique play. We lived in KY and the Carolinas for a long stretch so it hit home. Nice theater set-up and easy parking. The actors were real pro's and the set was well done. Got our seats on Goldstar for a very reasonable rate. read more

Drove by this place a million times over the years, always saying to myself "one of these days..." That day finally came and I was immensely impressed with the production and setting. We saw "The Homecoming" which as a Pinter play (typically as we came to find out) was edgy and wonderfully strange. Their were multiple actors who really gave powerful performances (a rarity in small theater productions). It's a very intimate theater and a production team that is thoughtful and interested in talking with the patrons about their experience. I highly recommend this venue for a night away from Hipster central steps away on Abbot Kinney. Enjoy the true passion for the arts that is still alive at PRT! read more

Great venue! I saw Cigarettes and Chocolate here, which played in the 40-seat theater. The seats were pretty comfortable, the sound was great, and the show was very entertaining. There are 3 (4?) bathrooms in the lobby area. I wish I lived closer! read more

I've been meaning to write this for a while! Me and my two best friends took a trip to Venice about a month ago now. Being theatre lovers from New York, we researched local theatre in the area and found this. We ended up seeing Hostage, a play that was being workshopped at the time. It was absolutely amazing and the passion from the actors and all creatives involved was tangible. This play made us cry, put us on the edge of our seats, and left us with a lot to think about. The reason I felt such a need to write this is because as we talked with the stage manager she was surprised we were there without knowing anyone in the cast because most people living there don't even know the theatre exists or just don't go out of their way to see anything (which is quite a shame.) My hope is that someone comes across this and is compelled to support their local arts community and go see a great show made with a lot of love. read more

One of the best small theatres in a city that has literally hundreds of small theatres, and...there's plenty of parking! There are three small performing spaces, and the work is always at least interesting, sometimes outstanding. Great actors just a few feet away - there's no other experience like it. I've seen terrific productions on nearly bare stages about the size of a large platform and walked away with the feeling that I've just left an entire world behind. Los Angeles has a ton of great actors - surprise, surprise - and a ton of theatres to see them, close up and personal. Where to begin? How about this little jewel. read more

This is one's chance to go to the theater few blocks from the ocean and often enjoy it more that running to a big name downtown theater would provide. Seen many plays there, it's in a very modest, also lovingly arranged little theaters (sometimes all three have an offering in the same evening), but never seen a bad play there ever and some have been outstanding! JULIA is the story of a man coming home after many years to try and cure the pain he caused his childhood friend,Julia.It is a straightforward and simple story,written and directed in a no frills,linear style.It is the emotional possibilities of the situations set up in this drama that have the potential to keep you in your seats.However, despite good to excellent performances from the troupe,the wonderful opportunities for pathos the story provides are not realized by half. I saw "The Time of Your Life"... it was FANTASTIC! The acting, the set, the costumes... the whole thing was amazing. It's rare and great when you see such a huge play in such a intimate setting... done that well. Having said that, I have seen productions there on and off for about ten years, and they are the best theatre in LA. read more

Good classical Theatre company bringing obscure pieces to the public. Also has new works in workshops. Loved their production of "Touch of a Poet" by O'Neill. Unfortunately Venice in my opinion does not have enough theatre. There is really only one other theatre in the area and that is the Electric. In fact as far as google is concerned this is the only theatre. This company is near Beyond Baroque and SPARC (Social and Public Art Resource Center.) If you can, try to check out SPARK if open before the show. read more

Saw Eugene O'Neill's 'Touch of the Poet last night in one of the three stages. It was the middle of the three stages that are there. The play itself was good, and the acting was enjoyable. We bought general admission tix and waited in line outside the theater and were among the first to enter. The majority of the seats were "reserved." The seats that were available to us were in the back aisles. Long story short; we sat down in seats that gave about zero leg room. My GF and I are not short, and by the end of this longish play, we had experienced enough discomfort to make us want to leave early. We didn't -- because we liked the play -- but this is not worth a 30 dollar ticket which is what we paid. For that reason, we won't be back. But kudos to the actors. read more

Go see "UK Underdog" this coming month; it's playing at Pacific Resident Theater til Dec. 18th and is worth every single second of the 85 minutes you'll spend there. Truthfully, I was blown away by the brilliance of Steve's one-man show. The theme is timely (bullying! and overcoming it with charm, wit, grace, perseverance and the utmost talent). He grabbed us with every heartbreaking and heartwarming millisecond of his life. He sunk himself into every character and became them. But the best character he played was his very own self. KUDOS to you Steve...a masterpiece of a script and a master performance. Our wish is that you'll bring it forward to bigger venues. The story needs to be told. read more

PRT is a wonderful small theater. We have been subscribers for years and always see interesting, well acted performances. They have a great subscription idea...you pay for 8 seats....you can use them two at a time or bring a whole group. Check it out. read more

My issue is with the acquisition of tickets rather than the venue; purchasing tickets with a "suggested donation" of $15 is a bit excessive for a university student. If it is truly a suggestion, the website should not require me to pay $15 online with no method of changing my donation to something more affordable. read more
