Our first night in town and the local theater was playing Young Frankenstein. It was my first time seeing the movie and it was a great way to see it. Buying tickets was easy ahead of time and there are no bad seats. It's angled so everyone can see. It's a large theater. I really enjoyed it!

I come here frequently for American Cinematheque showings. The Aero has 4k and 70mm capabilities. The screen quality is excellent. The seats are basic, but there is hardly a slope in the rows, so the odds of you sitting behind someone who's too tall and blocks the view are high. The concessions are limited but well priced. The bathroom situation is genuinely the worst of any theater I've been to...prepare to stand in line for a while. There's no room for chit chat in the lobby afterwards, you have to immediately take it outside. This theater is a fantastic piece of history in the Santa Monica area, but it could desperately use a refresh. Don't touch that beautiful marquee though, that's the best part of this theater. Heads up, there is no parking here! Read street signs when parking in the neighborhood to save yourself a ticket.

I came all the way out to Santa Monica to watch the 30th anniversary of Heavyweights! One of the best movies ever. The theater itself is pretty large. It's located in a very nice area, very welcoming. You may have a hard time finding parking so make sure to come early!

We often see American Cinematheque screenings here, and it's pretty fun. The theater itself is rather large, so there's plenty of seating (unless there's a sold out show, then definitely come early). The seats are a bit smaller, so it's not super comfortable, but the experience overall makes up for it. Definitely recommend for AC screenings, as we always have a great time. We always find parking on a nearby street fairy easily. Definitely come early if it's a sold out show! ;)

Excellent theater. Went to a Q&A a while back with Matthew Barney. Felt surreal to hear him speak. Cremaster III was excellent! Great fidelity on sound and projection. Very cool crowd. Parking was a challenge. Otherwise great spot!

Been here twice and it is an older theatre-we have been here to watch the KCET Cinema Series. Here are some helpful info: 1. Parking can be expensive - we paid $12 and had to walk about two blocks away. For our second time, we found street parking. Just be careful of the signs as this neighborhood has permit parking 2. Restaurants nearby across the street but can get busy during a weeknight so join the waitlist or make reservations 3. There is one bathroom for disabled individuals (All Gender) on first floor and restrooms (Men/Women) on the second floor 4. Snacks available - there's popcorn for $5 or $7 which is a rarity these days

Love this theater! They always seem to have free screenings and double features and Q&A's with great directors and actors. I've seen Sean Penn, James L. Brooks (last weekend), Helen Hunt, director Tim Hunter, an all day 80's horror fest with 6 movies (could only handle 4; saw director Amy Holden Jones and 80's icon Kelli Maroney) for $20 and The Three Colors Trilogy (Blue, White, Red) there for $15. The staff is fine, the seats are fine, bathroom small but clean. Someone said the screen is too small?? Um, just sit closer lol. The screen is fantastic and the sound is Top 7 in LA. When I go, I go early and sit front left. On the aisle. If you come late and want to sit in the middle it's probably difficult. Same with parking. NEVER had a problem after 6pm - plenty of street parking in the neighborhood. Before 6 am? The signs are tricky, but I found parking on 14th street less than 1/2 mile away. I drove around less than 5 minutes and was willing to walk - no big deal. American Cinematheque said they show 1500 movies here per year? That's amazing. This place caters to the cinephile and film nerd. Only issue is that sometimes the old 35mm prints are terrible. James L. Brooks even joked about how bad Terms of Endearment was; but hey, it was free and on the big screen!

    The theatre itself.

An incredible theater for catching amazing films, new and old. Not the greatest parking situation but if you arrive with some extra time, you'll be able to snag some good street parking and a lovely Santa Monica walk.

My son has been wanting to see Devil Wears Prada 2 and the first one is one of his favorite movies of all time. Personally, I don't like that movie but I went along with him. Tickets are $25 each and they have a $4 parking garage, but we were lucky enough to get a free after-hour meter on the street. It's a nice place and it seems like comfort is their top priority. The recliner chairs are extremely comfy and come with a blanket in case you get cold. You know how movie theaters are always chilly. Once you get settled, you can press a button that sends an employee over to take your order. It's completely optional. We got one small popcorn (light butter, $6) which was big enough for both of us. I like this idea of having the option of ordering and dining at your seat while watching a movie, but the reality is a bit different. It's kind of annoying to see the employees coming and going when someone needs a refill or places a new order during the movie. You can hear them talking and they can even block your view. It's frustrating when you are trying to focus. With that being said, I think it has more pros than cons. There are bars and bathrooms located across the several floors and the one we went to was exceptionally clean. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back to this theatre. I prefer something more standard like AMC or Pacific Theatres (RIP!)...

At a recent showing, I ordered the Culver Combo and the popcorn was almost entirely small, crumbly fragments, the tiny broken bits you'd normally find at the very bottom of the bag. It was basically impossible to eat. I got a refill halfway through, assuming I'd just gotten the ends of a batch, but the replacement scoop from a fresh machine was no better. On top of the texture, the popcorn also just doesn't taste good. it had a slightly burnt taste every single time. 2) About an hour into every movie, it becomes obvious there's no AC or fan running. I wouldn't be surprised if a CO2 monitor showed elevated levels. I've flagged this to staff on all three visits, and each time turning on the AC fixed it immediately, but it's never on by default. Sitting in a hot, stale theater for two hours is genuinely unpleasant, and the difference in air quality the moment you step into the hall is obvious. I really want to like this theater, it's a local business and I'd rather support it than a big chain but I won't be returning unless these issues are addressed/fixed.

But I am SO GLAD I was recently afforded the opportunity to finally check it out when I was granted tickets to a screening/Q&A of Omaha. They only have 1 screen but I loved how it's a great balance between vintage + modern. Usually with the former, you expect uncomfortable seats but I found these to be quite comfortable, with plenty of legroom and good stacking of rows so that your view isn't compromised. The theater itself is spacious AND gorgeous in its own right. May sound silly but I also judge movie experiences considering concession - here, although there are only a couple of operators, they run the lines efficiently and their popcorn is fresh and tasty (even when the butter topping is administered on their end). I could see required street parking being a challenge but I haven't had an issue in the surrounding areas that time, or since. Yes, after this screening I signed up for the Landmark Theatres loyalty program because I knew I'd definitely be back. And already have, for another Q&A (the film Forge). I love that they screen indie films and extend opportunities like this for fairly reasonable prices.

Being very unfamiliar with this area, it seems like a rather remote location with a bunch of luxury apartments where most likely the tenants work from home, and the corporate buildings would be something such as google, etc. IMAX seemed to fit right in. Since it was a Saturday, I was a little hesitant since the parking arm was down, and there wasn't a booth. Finally after seeing it open for a delayed time, I drove on in and found a spot out front, although the garage visitor entrance was right in front. After checking in with a human at a table setup, I had to check in on an ipad which takes your photo (which I'm not a fan of) but the security/desk lady was really nice and helpful, directing us where to go. Up a flight of stairs, the theater was to the right, and it was a nice one. I know the middle seats are ideal for this kind of place, but I stayed off to the end as I prefer and it was still easy to view. This was the kind of theater where you can feel the floor shake in certain scenes which added to the experience. Not the fault of this theater by any means, this movie was long, but I'm glad I go to see it on IMAX (and free). Unfortunately, there was zero food/beverage as other people experienced a spread at their screenings; that was not the case here and I was starving and unprepared. Thanks to the desk lady, she gave me a bottle of water so I had something. Never assume! If you get a chance to watch something, go just to say you did.

I do prefer SFC for a number of reasons and the main one is probably location. SFC is always at a park, my favorite being Exposition Park. Front Porch Cinema is on the Santa Monica Pier, and while that sounds cool, in execution, it's really not. The screams from the pier roller coaster and lights from the pier ferris wheel were major distractions to the movie. Sitting on a blanket on top of the wooden boardwalk is also incredibly uncomfy, so they recommend bringing chairs (they also provide chair rentals). The problem with this is, there are no restrictions, so you have people bringing tall ass chairs, sitting in the center and blocking people's view. SFC has restrictions and if you want to sit in a tall chair, you have to sit on the side, which I think is fair. Next, the crowd. Because this was a free screening and it's located in Santa Monica (read: lots of homeless people), there were many homeless people watching the movie and occasionally harassing movie goers. It was fun, and free, so I guess I can't really complain that much, but you do get what you pay for. I'll be sticking with Streetfood Cinema once outdoor movie screening season returns.
