Groom Dog City

My dog likes to look fresh…read more Haha, not really. If it were up to her she'd let herself resemble Pigpen, would roll around in dirt and feces, and would generally look like she'd just been through a forage in the forest. However, as an apartment dog...this is not acceptable. She is a shorthaired lady, so she doesn't need the particular cut, but every few months she does need a deep down brushing, scrub and nail trim (something about trimming another beings nails terrifies me)...and thus we search for her spa. Easier said than done in East London! But I finally found Groom Dog City and I am quite pleased with the output. It's in a little shop near Haggerston/Columbia Market, they took my appointment quickly, the staff was very nice (both the owner and the assistant), and 45 minutes later I returned and was gifted back a dog that looked to be much cleaner and about 4 bales of hair lighter. Win. Reasonably priced too! For the works on my type of dog (again, no cutting/trimming required) for bath, eyes, ears, nails, brushdown -- about £25. I also left a tip because I have to believe this is thankless work giving spa treatments to animals who do not wish to be pampered. If they only knew! They even returned her to me with a little bow. I'll be visiting again next time she starts to resemble a vagabond... *appointments easily made online (he called me back right away). *there are a few shop dogs, word to the wise. I mentioned my dog wasn't so nice with other dogs she doesn't know, and they easily blocked them off. I'm sure my dog was still a nervous wreck, but there is a price to beauty and to coexisting with humans, Tillie.

Great to stumble upon Molly & George on Yelp!…read more I was doing a search to find a new groomer for our posh pensioner Tillie. She was in bad need of a manicure and bath, and I was just sort of over the vibe at my previous groomer (Groom Dog City). After reading the bio on M&G's Yelp page I figured it would be good choice and a nice walk up to London Fields on a weekend morning. I easily made an appointment via email. I brought her in on Sunday at 10am, she got the requisite bath and brushing and nail trim and I picked her up about 45 minutes later (even snuck in a tasty breakfast nearby at Bouchon Fourchette)!. For the low price of 20 quid! A great deal in my opinion. It's a location under a railway arch near London Fields, just behind Hackney Road. The space is fresh and bright. Super simple, she looked great when done, the woman was friendly and we were on our way to enjoy a nice walk in London Fields. Can't beat that. It gives me a great excuse to visit one of my favorite areas of London as well. 2 paws up for Molly & George - we'll be back.
DO NOT TRUST THEM WITH YOUR LONG HAIRED DOG!…read more I brought my baby Chow Chow in, showed a picture of my dog and asked for her hair to be cut SHORTER, with a full groom service, which to my understanding would be: wash, blowout, ear cleaning, nails clipping, etc. Came back in 2 hours with my chow SHAVED down. The groomer told me that I ASKED for this. Either in her 21 years of experience, which she kept repeating to us, she has never groomed a chow chow, or she doesn't knows the difference between cutting and shaving a dog. With NO APOLOGY from the groomer, I paid £90 to the awful job, left and came home with tears. This could have been a miscommunication, since the groomer was adamant that "you asked for this". Me and my husband are dog owners since we were children, we have groomed our baby chow chow in London and in Dubai for years, and never once have I left a groomer with such bad feeling.

Appalling!!! The attitude of the woman serving was vile and she told me she 'couldn't groom my dog…read moreas her scissors wouldn't cut through his hair'. Funnily enough, several groomers near by have all seen my dog (who is a cocker spaniel - not mammoth) have completely disagreed and booked him in straight away. No issues. The 'groomer' doesn't have a clue and I would strongly recommend using a groomer who can actually 'groom' a dog. Rather than charge £10 for a bath and send the dog back covered in grass!!!!! As an aside, she also advised me that her job 'is not to brush the dogs'..... which I actually thought was the whole point of a groom!!! That would be like going to the hairdressers and them not combing your hair before a cut! I'm outraged that despite booking in and advising her that my dogs hair is thick on the legs and booking a 2 hour appointment, she couldn't cut him. Use the groomers in Loughton instead. So much better and such friendly women. Unlike this so - called 'groomer'.
Angel Pet Supplies
If you are looking for emergency pet food in Islington, you don't have many options…read more Angel Pets is a small store so it just sells the basics. You can find dog and cat food here, some food for birds (wild and otherwise), and some small animal cages. The shopkeeper here was friendly and I thought that the prices were good. My pet has food at the moment but the next time I need to get him some and I'm going to Vue, I'll stop in here. Better than being caught out and having to hope to catch Waitrose.

There was a large number of collars, leashes, jackets, anti-pull harnesses, and muzzles for dogs that I could choose from, and the man behind the counter was very friendly and helpful. The store may be small, but what they don't have they are happy to order for you. And if you're in need of a cat/dog bed, they have an entire wall FULL. Good prices, good service, and no complaints when I had to return a collar that was too large. Thanks, Angel Pets!

The shop is well stocked and features a wide selection of Royal Canin and Hills Science Diet varieties. Annoyingly, there is a slight charge for card payments and every time I try to beat the system, by buying an extra sachet of food, or packet of cat treats, I end up spending more than intended. On several occasions I have used coupons sent to me by cat food companies against products and the staff have been gracious in accepting them, which doesn't always happen in shops!

Before I discovered this pet supplies store, I was buying from Amazon, which was often sold out of the only type of litter I liked. When I found this store, I saw they had a huge selection of everything, from dry and wet cat food, to raw treats to litter, toys...you name it. Prices are really competitive - beats or matches what I have found on Amazon but without having to wait for shipping. Their membership card is free and a portion of the store's proceeds go to charity of your choice. You can also find small pets here: small birds and parrots, gerbils, rabbits and chinchillas. They also have dog grooming. Those who say you can get a better deal at Tesco obviously aren't picky about the quality of products they are getting for their pets. I don't buy my cat any processed junky crap you find at Tesco and Sainsburys - I once had a cat develop IBS as a result of that sh*tty food. I only buy grain free organic now with as few ingredients as possible. I want my cat to live a long healthy life and stores like this make it possible. The second time I took him there, I noticed that he was scooting on his back legs quite a bit, a day later he started to feel ill. I took him to the vet and he had to have an injection and had to have his anal glands cleaned (Posh Pets had not done this properly and that was the problem). I called Posh Pets and they weren't too helpful. I do not like the fact that all dogs are caged, so I will be using dialadogwash.com instead. They come to your house and you can be with your dog.
