This place makes me want to hug people. It's clean, cute and homey inside, with prices so jaw-droppingly cheap they'll make you want to punch someone in the face the next time you pay $20+ for a massaman curry (and that's probably without rice.)
It's got a limited menu which covers off all of the usual Thai takeaway basics. I ordered a tofu pad thai ($6.50) with no bean sprouts, which based upon other experiences ordering the same dish, must be Thai for "Make My Pad Thai As Bland As Possible". But not here- it was really tasty, and the tofu was fresh, firm, pan-fried tofu, not that pre-deep-fried stuff. The only thing I would ding a star for was the absence of a lemon/lime wedge to add that essential acid component. But hey, $6.50!
Also ordered a spring roll, as I am on a mission in Sydney to find an Asian restaurant that does their own and does it really well. I have to say, Pad Thai House did a damn good job- and for just $1 for a large! Be careful tho- I ordered one and the adorable Thai lady serving me enthusiastically said, "You want 6?" while pointing to the menu which stated any crispy nibbly selections (prawn crackers, chicken wings, curry puffs etc) were 6 for $5. It took a good 30 seconds before she understood I only wanted one spring roll, and this was only after I politely pointed my behind at her, patting it expressively with regards to the bum-widening properties of copious amounts of fried food (much to the delight of the kitchen staff and the pisshead bogans who were seated inside enjoying their evening meal).
Definitely my new go-to place for cheap Thai takeaway in my 'hood. read more
