Yesterday, we had an early dinner at Pad Thai Restaurant. We had never been here before, but we did have high expectations based on comments we've read. And our expectations were met, and exceeded! Although it's located in a funny little strip plaza, once you enter this lovely restaurant you immediately know it's different and managed by professionals. We were very politely taken to our reserved table, which they had situated in a private nook. Very nice. For a first course (and appetizer), Linda had a Tom Kha Gai soup, small, which is chicken and mushrooms in coconut milk with herbs and Thai ginger. She didn't want to share with me, but told me how absolutely delicious it was. Full of flavours, nuanced and layered. In a soup! I had the Tom Yum Goong, small, which a Thai creamy style hot and sour soup with prawns and mushrooms. The mild, delicious Enoki mushrooms, sometimes called golden needle mushrooms, were an exciting addition to this wonderful soup. Hands down, this was the best Tom Yum Goong I've tasted since my friend Mai's restaurant in Oakville back in 1997. Dinner for Linda was a Green Curry. Of course! She'll order a green curry anywhere we go, anytime! Served with zucchini, broccoli and green beans, she said it was one of the best she's ever had. Strong layered flavours. For those who love curry (like Linda), she said this is the best anywhere. I had the Chu Chi Basa, which is a basa fillet (lots, actually) drizzled with a rich red curry sauce, and served on a bed of exceptional raw young spinach. This was absolutely delicious. All the distinct flavours were present and identifiable. The fish was delicious, crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. I can't say enough good about this dinner and this restaurant. It's a bit out of the way, but easy to find. It deserves to be known by all Calgarians who love authentic Thai food. Presentation: 5/5. Hubby and I had a really amazing date night here; I'd say this was the best Thai food I've eaten in a long time! Although the interior decor is fairly nice, some of the booths need to be reupholstered. Our servers were friendly, efficient, and informative. In addition to being a good restaurant for couples, this place is family friendly and can also accommodate diners with nut allergies. Tom Yum Goong: we started with this delicious, smooth soup with perfectly cooked shrimp, brown mushrooms and grape tomatoes. I loved the creamy coconut milk broth with a slight hint of lemongrass. Pineapple Fish: the lightly battered basa pieces had just the right amount of crunch and was wonderfully complemented with the sweet pineapple sauce. The sauce also pairs well with coconut rice. Coconut Rice: one order (16 ounces) is enough for two people. Drunken Prawns: a wonderful combination of smoked ground chili and peanuts with stir fried eggplant. The chili sauce enhanced(and did not overpower) the flavour of the prawns and the eggplant. I also enjoyed eating the tails(shell included) of the prawns; they were so crispy. Overall, we walked into a decent ambiance. The layout is a little disjointed, but every table was filled with (seemingly) happy people. We were seated and ordered our Thai favorites. Chicken Pad See Ew, Pandan Chicken, Drunken Prawns. [Oops, I don't think we got the Pad Thai here. Mistakes were made.] Overall, everything was pretty good so I would say, order away and if you're looking for inspiration, then consider getting what we did! How can a place called Pad Thai have such terrible Pad Thai. the noodle were mushy the sauce was very unbalanced. too sweet and mostly tasting of ketchup. This restaurant is amazing! A restaurant that is based solely on Pad Thai is incredible. This year they had a booth at "Taste of Calgary". Stumbled on this place when our first choice had too long of a wait foe two hungry kids. Should have just left when they failed to acknowledge me for 10 minutes while they tried to get out deliver app orders. The app driver kept coming and they staff kept delaying looking foe my table. Nonetheless, i waited for a table. The co-owner offered me a choice of a two-top or four-top with a 10 minute wait. We opted to try and squeeze into a two-top, but by the time we were seated the 4-top had cleared. We asked for it and we were told by the other co-owner that there was a reservation. We took the two-top and waited a bit for service, but eventually had to go ask for service. When they came to bring drinks they dumped a glass of water on my infant daughter. My husband decided we should leave since the service had been so bad before we even ordered. As we were leaving they were preparing the four-top that was supposedly reserved for a woman who was behind me in line who was initially told that there was no availability for the night. I get that restaurant need to do take out, bur they also need to prioritize those who wish to dine in. read more

Best Thai food ever. First, the place is gorgeous. It's a small space, but very well designed. The service was fantastic. The server was helpful and very patient while I was trying to figure out what to order. The food is a step above other Thai restaurants I've eaten in. There are a lot of complementary flavors in Thai food - salt, heat, basil, lemongrass, ginger or galangal, coconut. The trick with good Thai food is that they're all present with every mouthful being an explosion of flavor, not just a blurred blend. Pad Thai manages to pull this off and the result is spectacular. First time trying Thai since moving to Calgary. Was encouraged by all the great reviews but the food ended up being super disappointing. Cashew chicken were large dry chunks with what tasted like that cheap VH brand sweet and sour sauce you can buy for 2 bucks at Walmart. Some of the veggies tasted like they were previously frozen. The massaman curry was almost all potatoes, skimpy on chicken and only one peanut. Food is very very far from being authentic and quality is way below what it should be for the price which is average 16$ per dish. I really wish I could be more positive since local businesses need our support now more than ever, but business owners need to put in the effort too... read more

Amazing authentic Thai food with actual Thai owners and chefs, can't ask for more. All of the curries are made in house and toasted per order. They even import their own white cardamom for their spices, which is unique and authentic to Thai cuisine not found in North America. Nice little restaurant. Very quaint, and nicely decorated in Thai themes. Our waitress was very good and was very witty, which earned her an extra tip. The menu is extensive and the food quality is quite good. I found the serving sizes to be rather smallish, especially for the price. All of us could have eaten more than our dishes provided. We had appetizer, entree and dessert and I still could have eaten more at the end of it. I am a petite female, just so you know I am not a 200 lb. man! The food was nicely seasoned, but inconsistent in the "hot" ratings. Each of us had entrees that were rated "one pepper", but mine was the only dish that had any heat at all. Some hot sauce served on the side might have been a good idea. If you are going to go, have the Thai bruschetta, it is killer. The dessert, sticky rice pudding with fresh mango, was very small I found. For $8 I would have expected a more sizeable helping, especially since the main ingredients - glutinous rice and coconut milk - are widely available and very inexpensive. Overall, a pleasant restaurant, and nice tastes. But if you are starving, you may have to stop for takeout later. read more

Authentic Thai food cooked by the sweetest Thai lady! This placed passed my "authentic Thai food" test: the Pad Thai wasn't bright orange like some other places. Authentic Pad Thai should be more of a brown color, which it was here. The chef came out and checked in on us, which was a nice touch. She told us that her mom who lives in Thailand sends her authentic ingredients! The chef also makes her own amazing hot sauces and pairs them with the different dishes. I do wish the portions were a tad bit bigger (mainly because the food here is so delicious!). I've had some amazing Thai food in CA but I was indeed blown away by this little Thai joint in Calgary! It's Sunday night, we just got back from a day trip from lake Louie and lake moraine, checked into hotel with my wife and in-laws. Just trying to find something the chomp down. Here we are, first pulling into the parking spot in front of a small plaza... absolutely zero expectation from then. But once I step into the restaurant, the aroma transcend this place was amazing, I knew I come to the right place...(wife elbowing me and said told you so) the waitress was informative, funny and friendly, they are dress in Thai dress. We order the wonton, green papaya salad and the shrimp drumstick and Tom yum goong soup. The appetizer is just amazing, I had to pretend that I didn't eat any (I ate two) in order to convince my wife that she had two and I should eat the last one. Lol. The Tom yum goong soup is unlike the ones I had before in Toronto, this had coconut milk in it and it had just enough kick of spice in it to balance the flavor. My definite flavor. We order the the green curry, red curry, yellow curry and pad se ew. They have the choice of coconut rice or jasmine rice. I found the coconut rice goes well with the curry, making it less spicy. The jasmine rice just make you taste the curry, they are so so good. The portion is huge! This is probably the most authentic Thai food I had in a long while. Had dinner here with a group of friends while traveling thru Calgary. Stopped in craving Thai food and choose Pad Thai primarily because it was close to our hotel. Was greeted by a friendly staff and a very fun and kooky waitress. The food was excellent as well. The sauces were flavorful, the veggies and meats cooked just right, and the service was excellent. Thank to Yelp, we gave this place a try and it was amazing! We showed up around 6pm on a Friday and snagged the last remaining table that was available since the rest were either occupied or being held for reservations. I'd definitely recommend making a reservation! We shared the the Money Bag app which was good and then we shared orders of the Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles. Both entrees were delicious! We practically scraped our plates clean. The Drunken Noodles were pretty spicy, so be prepared or ask for less heat. If we lived in Calgary, we would be eating here every week. Enjoy! read more

Wow! I remember this as a sushi restaurant. The new tenants have kept much of the old decor but has added lots of Thai influences to freshen it up. Our two servers were the owners and they were delightfully excited to see us and keen to share with us their suggestions for food and their inspirations for the menu. I had the pork stay skewers for a starter and they were on point - a little hint of heat and all the peanut flavour I craved! For my main course I chose the eponymous Pad Thai as the photos made it look so inviting - what I got what picture perfect and had all the flavours I had imagined and the textures made it a delight to eat! A nice Thai restaurant in mt.pleasant, this place looked familiar as it use to be a sushi restaurant I have been to before. There is a small parking lot in front of the restaurant as well as some street parking. I was able to call and make a reservation which was nice cuz the place filled up quick. Everyone decided on an appetizer to start. We got papaya salad, pin wheel, crispy wonton and money bags. I got the salad and the shreds of papaya was fresh and crunchy with each bite and the sweet and tangy fish sauce and Chilis was a nice balance and has pieces of sliced cooked shrimp which was really good. The money bags tasted like regular Chinese wontons to me, some girls thought the pin wheel tasted better. The crispy wontons looked really simple and something I could make at home so I wouldn't waste my money on it. Two girls got the pad se ew and they mentioned it was super yummy and finished their dish quickly. I got the pineapple fish which was nicely battered Basa filets fired up and tossed in this sweet and sour sauce with pineapples and green onions, I got a side of coconut rice and it was scrumptious. I had leftover that I packed up for lunch the next day. Service was good but I think they got a bit busy and forgot one of the appetizers after the other three already came out and we had to ask for it. Hands down one of the best Thai food I've ever had. My family and I traveled here from Toronto. I've always been a big fan of Thai food. I'm also very familiar with Thai ingredients. I have tried the best rated Thai food in Toronto, but it's nothing like this. By eating their food I can tell the chef really put her heart in making the food and developing the menu. Their appetizers are delicious and unique. None of the Thai restaurants I tried before would put that much effort to make such sophisticated dishes. Their portions are huge. I felt really bad that we wasted some food, because we have early flight the next day. But I seriously don't remember the last time I ate as much. Good reviews, looked sincere. We were a group of 11 vegetarians and called ahead. Owner picked and said she could accommodate us. We started the spring rolls which were good, then came the Tom Yum and Tom Kha soups, both were balanced with spice perfectly. Tom Yum was made with coconut milk which was surprisingly awesome. Then came the dinner plates, Panang Curry, Green Curry and Red curry, along with veg pad thai and vegetable fried rice. Our favorite was the Panang curry, the kids loved the pineapple curry fried rice (a little less heat was perfect for them).
