Everything about this experience was wonderful from start to finish. Booking the boats was a breeze and when we arrived a tad early, the young lady who works there was already prepping for us. She was informational, asked the right questions and extremely helpful. I have a terrible knee and she helped me get in the boat and when we switched from a canoe to a kayak, she was super accomodating. My three grown boys and husband went and we just had a blast. Super easy online booking and paperwork. Fantastic staff. We found them very helpful. The guide gave an easy to understand brief training prior to our launch. Picked out the best equipment for us to use and set us up for success. It was a beautiful day on the water. We saw pelicans hunting, which was super interesting to watch. We saw egrets and seagulls. That was great. The wake from the boats blasting by wasn't as much fun. I enjoyed the paddling, while the hubs kept saying, "now I know exactly why man invented engines for boats." The hubs and I have been considering getting a kayak to enjoy the water and nature. We booked this tour to see if our thoughts matched what we experienced. What we learned today saved us at least $1,200, because although I like Kayaking the hubs hated it. We declared it the best $50 we've spent in a long time! read more

Beautiful experience. As first timers our family received great instructions and safety tips.

Even though we had , regrettably, rented our kayaks from another business, Paddle NC was at the location we were launching. We had no idea where to paddle or locations to avoid as the other business did not provide that assistance. Chris, with Paddle NC, offered their help with where to paddle sights to look out for. They offered tips and even helped as launch! I was blown away by Chris' kindness, especially considering we had not rented our kayaks from them. Because of Chris, we had a wonderful day exploring and even saw dolphins! Chris even had his coworker Adam keep an eye out for us to make sure we returned safely! Paddle NC was amazing! What would you want in a Paddle Board Rental company? Competent workers? Good quality equipment? A company that puts safety first? Good value for your money? Paddle NC meets and exceeds all of those criteria - but the real magic is the people. I was already impressed by the easy online registration system, and when I had a question the staff was friendly on the phone as well. When we arrived we were greeted and got started quickly. The worker talked us through the equipment, made recommendations for different boats based on our size and age, and then went through a thorough "how to" demonstration which included all the necessary safety tips. The kayak trip it's self was all the fun and outdoors exercise we had anticipated - so in my opinion all of that is enough to give this company 5 stars on it's own, but my great experience didn't stop there. When out on the Kayaks, I somehow misplaced my car keys - we didn't realize this until we had arrived back at the end of our day. We searched the boats, and the vests, and everywhere... no keys to be found. The worker offered to take us on his power boat back down to a shore we had beached on to look for the keys - it was his own personal boat, personal time, and gas but he didn't even think twice. We didn't find the keys. I got my family home in an Uber, and then my wife and I came back to try and deal with the car. My wife wanted to look in the boats one more time, so she walked down and found a gentleman still working, but the boats were locked up. She explained what had happened and he offered to take the locked up boats back off the rack AT THE END OF HIS DAY so we could look again. He pulled the first boat down, lifted and shook it, then opened up the hatches and there were my keys! This man, and his willingness to be helpful saved our day and saved us a fortune in towing expenses. He easily could have just made this our problem, it was the end of his long day and I'm sure he wanted to go home. But he didn't sigh at us, or look sideways, he was genuinely interested in helping us. I will use this company over and over and over again, and I'll tell everyone! Safety, equipment and value are important but the magic in your experience is going to come from the staff that works with you, and in our case they really made for a great day. read more

I booked a 4-hour tandem kayak from 10a-2p on Memorial weekend Sunday. We were concerned about the weather but it ended up being a beautiful afternoon. We were disappointed we weren't allowed to take the cut towards the ocean towards Murfeesboro Island but completely understand this is for safety reasons. We ended up basically skirting the state park and beached near Sugar Loaf Dune to have a snack and layout. Lots of birds and sand crabs to take pictures of on the trip. I strapped a GoPro on my head and got some good footage. The tour operator was super nice and gave us the typical PFD and paddling instructions as well as a brief discussion on the map they provide. I believe I was in for $64 for the 4 hours which is more than fair for some Intercoastal exploration. Definitely go eat a meal at Michaels Seafood just 5 minutes away when you leave. read more

Great spot to enjoy a kayak or paddle board adventure. I chose the sunset tour hoping to capture a beautiful sunset. This day did not disappoint. The guide was a long time resident of the area and very informative along the tour. Next time I'd go it alone but for the first time in this area of the river it was worth the fee. It was slightly breezy so the paddle provided a nice workout for me. We saw mostly birds & crabs. It is a little off the main road but easy to get there. I called for directions because the GPS steered me wrong. Great service and will check them out again. read more

Out of a four day trip to the area, the kayaking tour was the only thing we actually planned. Unfortunately, Saturday was quite windy, something our guide pointed out several times during paddling lesson. My eight year old daughter and I went first. She was already commenting that she was scared we would tip over while we were waiting for the others in our party to launch. My sixteen year old daughter was next. She was about twenty feet out when she lost control and fell in the water. My younger daughter sees her in the water and asks to go back to the hotel. The other two adults in our party launch. My sixteen year old is placed in a different boat, but mentions to me that she doesn't feel safe because it is still windy. I make the decision to call it a day before we've even begun. I tell the guide as I pass him, we are headed back to shore, but the other two adults will continue on with him. I didn't mind so much that I was now out $160. If my kids don't feel safe, they don't feel safe. What bothered me was when I got back to shore, one of the other tour guides rushed us out of the way because the other boats needed to be launched. I guess I was taking up too much of his time as I paused to give him our guide's tip since we were leaving. I also wasn't happy to learn that my sixteen year old had cut her feet on a rock coming back to shore after her plunge into the water. Her shoes came off at some point and she was bleeding on the sand when they were placing her in the second boat. She didn't say anything to me when we met out in the water because she didn't want to ruin the trip for everyone. Our guide knew she was injured and I wouldn't have expected him to bandage her up. Not his responsibility. However, I do feel it was his responsibility to make me aware of the injury. Good thing I went with my gut and cancelled our portion. read more

I was extremely impressed by Paddle NC and everyone who worked there. My friend and I ended up having to change our reservation in Hammock's Beach last minute to Carolina Beach, and both the guide Josh and the owner Walt worked with us so that we were still able to paddle. It really is the customer service that makes this company stand out- Both my friend and myself had a fantastic time, and even though we are both beginner paddlers, Walt made sure that we knew how to paddle and where to go. I still plan on making the trip out to Bear Island and will for sure rent a canoe again from Paddle NC and recommend them to others! read more

We rented SUPS and kayaks- newbies on the SUP boards & the guys running the shop were very helpful and fun (added bonus). You get the board right there where you get in the water so it was convenient, and plenty of water areas to try it out near the shore line. The first day we planned to go, the guys running the shop recommended we come back another day because the water was rough. They could have easily taken our $200+ and let us out there, but they put our safety and fun first. I really appreciated their expertise. Would definitely rent here again. read more
