The small beach area near Sugar Loaf Dune in Carolina Beach State Park...
    Kerry B.

I booked a 4-hour tandem kayak from 10a-2p on Memorial weekend Sunday. We were concerned about the weather but it ended up being a beautiful afternoon. We were disappointed we weren't allowed to take the cut towards the ocean towards Murfeesboro Island but completely understand this is for safety reasons. We ended up basically skirting the state park and beached near Sugar Loaf Dune to have a snack and layout. Lots of birds and sand crabs to take pictures of on the trip. I strapped a GoPro on my head and got some good footage. The tour operator was super nice and gave us the typical PFD and paddling instructions as well as a brief discussion on the map they provide. I believe I was in for $64 for the 4 hours which is more than fair for some Intercoastal exploration. Definitely go eat a meal at Michaels Seafood just 5 minutes away when you leave.

Sitting in the lagoon during our cape fear Eco kayak trip.

Beautiful experience. As first timers our family received great instructions and safety tips.

When out on the Kayaks, I somehow misplaced my car keys - we didn't realize this until we had arrived back at the end of our day.

I wish I could give it 100 stars. My husband and I booked the Black River/Three Sister's adventure…read more It was amazing!! From start to finish we were in awe of how beautiful it was. Our guide Don was the best. He was so helpful and knowledgeable. You couldn't ask for a better time. You won't be disappointed.

Decided to give Mahanaim Adventures a try after finding a Groupon for a "Sunset Kayaking Trip with…read morea Picnic Dinner for Two." Similar to other kayak tours I've done, we were fitted with PFDs and given a basic tutorial on how to paddle/ maneuver in the kayaks. The owner/guide Don was very knowledgable and did a great job making sure that the group moved together and that we were safe at all times. After kayaking around the river we stopped off for a picnic dinner on Shark Tooth Island. It was fun hunting for fossilized shark teeth and other shells. My two criticisms of the tour were: 1) There wasn't much to see. We kayaked a little way down the river and then turned down a grassy side channel. Besides a couple of herons in trees and some alligator tracks there was not much scenery and it became boring after a little while. 2) The food options for dinner were a little underwhelming. They had some store bought sandwich thins/wraps and deli cold cuts for dinner. Without the Groupon the price of the 3 hour tour is $150/per person. I didn't feel that this tour was much of an "adventure" and the food definitely left something to be desired.
