When we finally got to meet her, she had no idea why we were there, and was not at all familiar with our return. We will be taking our business elsewhere.

The second year for the same amount of billable hours they increased their tax prep fee 145%, which was very concerning for us. We asked for a review and that they would please find a way to lessen the fee. Their response was basically "no", " Your increased fee is not due to increased billable hours; it is due to correctly charging for the hours incurred by our firm". Also, after filing an extension for us, we had our information to them by early June and it took until early September for them to prepare our taxes. We checked in with them multiple times to check in on the progress of our return. We would not recommend them based on the price and their lack of expediency.

After the merge, the rates for my personal and corporate returns, quarterly filings and everything were raised exponentially without ever telling me there would be a price increase. They just started sending bills at a much higher rate. Their bills are also not itemized, so you never really know what you are paying for. They do not care about their clients at all and are purely transaction. They will charge you for every single question you ask or email you send. I'm sorry, but if I am going to trust someone with such an important aspect of my business, I should be able to ask my CPA tax related questions throughout the year. Also, multiple times they sent bills to an old address that I never had while working with them and then years later when they realized, they tried to charge me years worth of interest on top of the bills. I can't pay bills I never received and why did it take them over a year to realize I had an outstanding bill? I paid the invoices the very day it was brought to my attention. Then 6 months later, I was sent another bill (with more interest tacked on) for the invoice I had already paid and received payment confirmation for. Why would I continue to trust my corporate and personal taxes with a firm that can't even manage their own billing department. Also, after the merge, my CPA of years was no longer my preparer during tax season. I would get emails from multiple random Shannon & Associate employees that I have never met. No introduction, no explanation as to why they were reaching out, just requests for sensitive documents from people I had never heard of. This might not have been a red flag, but when you have 5 or 6 different people emailing you about different aspects of your tax filings, there are too many hands in the cookie jar and it's a recipe for errors. Also, you would think that with this many people involved, their filings would be quick, but they were always down to the wire with deadlines. They are rude, unprofessional, and only care about money. Also, Julie Campbell who left a five star review for them on google is an employee. Having employees leave positive comments to offset the truthful negative reviews should tell you everything you need to know about this firm.

It's a pretty comprehensive return with lots of…read moreschedules, and I've been doing fine with it until my son started working last year, we started contributing to an IRA and 401k for him, college, etc. For the first time in 30+ years, there was a "new thing" to account for. Due to a forced 401k distribution/rollover/tax withholding, etc, I was a little unsure about how to handle it. I had an idea through research on the internet (and multiple LLM conversations), but I wanted to talk to a CPA or Tax person to confirm. I sent out a bunch of requests on Yelp to get quotes for a conversation that I estimated would take no more than 15-30 minutes just to make sure my understanding is correct. I got a bunch of replies ranging from $100-$385. Somebody even said I needed to complete an engagement letter to have the conversation! APEX sent me a message telling me how to address my tax issue with filings and what my expected outcome should be depending on whether or not my son owes taxes. He literally said, "You should be able to use Turbo tax to handle...if you have trouble use their support or take it to H&R Block...You don't need a CPA..." No quote. Just good and clear advice on what to do. I currently do not need any other accounting/tax assistance, but if I did, I would go to Apex -- not because they are "any more right" than any other CPA firm, but because they clearly value *YOUR* time and money -- not just theirs. I like to do business with good human beings who, to some degree, treat business like it's part of a community and not just a capitalist market. Recognizing that my need "wasn't a big deal" for their level of expertise and taking a few minutes to type out a solution with no request for compensation speaks more volumes about the business than people who have paid for the service, in my mind. If they can be this complete in answers for a person who isn't paying them a dime during the time of year when they are most busy and can treat this period like a "cash cow" and bill for every minute, then how complete, thorough and diligent do you think they will be for a paying client? At some point, I want to do more real estate investing -- I read in other reviews that Apex also has experience in this space. I will call upon them for sure if I ever need assistance. If you need financial solutions assistance, I highly recommend that you give Apex Tax and Financial Solutions a shot at your business.
