I never received any kind of engagement letter outlining fees, etc. After putting in a ton of time and effort to get my S-corp set up, the CPA's assistant never ran payroll because she ran into an issue with my bank but never informed me. When I learned of this, she told me that she was very busy because it was tax season and said "Sweetie, if it was that stressful to you, you could have just done it yourself". By not running payroll, they caused me to be behind in submitting a W-2 to get an employer medical insurance plan which means that I will have to pay over $700 for another month of my individual plan. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

Whatever his reasoning is below is a sham. He should be embarrassed.. If I can leave a zero I would. I was in dire need of an accountant. I had not completed my returns in a few years after splitting up from my spouse. Finally I reached out to Christian for assistance. I selected him because I wanted to give him some help on Yelp for being a small business owner who had hardly any ratings. He had this speech impediment that struck at my heart strings and I just wanted to give him a chance. Good God has it been a terrible experience since then. I finally got to a point where I am able to purchase a house and the ONLY thing at this point was my tax returns. I work in sales so it takes a while to get to a point where you make enough in commissions that you can show a profit to be able to buy a house. Anyway, it took him over TWO YEARS to do simple tax returns. TWO YEARS! At this point, I'm invested in this foolishness. I just wanted this to be done. During this course, of course, interest rates gone up A LOT!!! Anytime I asked him to fix anything it would take a month to get them back. I think he does that so he can scan us out of money pretending that he was working soooo hard on these files. The $1440 was already inputted into the QuickBooks supposedly.. smh.. the more I think about this, the more I get upset because of his shady practices. It's unbelievable. He took me on for a ride, didn't deliver, took my money, had the lamest excuses why he could not do anything on time or a timely fashion. Shame in him! The supposedly e-filed them. He never once checked to see if the IRS accepted the forms. He assumed that it was accepted but two bounced back. He charged me $1440 for the returns. Which I paid. A couple of months later, I received a crazy high IRS bill when it was supposed to be nothing, I mean this bill is so high, it is the cost of a brand new car. I called Christian and we stayed had to call the IRS.. that was less than one hour. In this call, we found out two of the returns bounced back. To his surprise, from his lack of work, I needed to snail mail my return, and he needed to take my ex spouse off one of them. I saw him play with the numbers on a zoom call adding and removing my ex-spouse in under five minutes. I by is he trying to charge me about her $1500 for all this. So for $1440 you do four tax returns and then now $1500 for a quick one hour phone call and simple removal of a person?? The numbers aren't adding up. It's obvious at this point, he doesn't care about this (me) client. He's slow played me for two darn years and still hasn't gotten it correct. I texted him about how ridiculous this was and how shady his business practice is and you know what he did?? He put his wife on the phone and she started talking mad sh*t to me. He literally sicked his wife on me. She had the audacity to tell me I should have done my taxes. Uhm hello, that why I hired you guys. Not to waste two years of my life hoping this joker would do his job only to take me for my money and never ever delivering on his end. During the two years whenever I asked for him to call me or the status of my returns, he always had an excuse either he was sick, his wife was sick, his kids were sick, or back all over again, or in the hospital or he's in school, or the funny excuse was he was at his real job. I said real job?? I thought he was an accountant?? His wife said he works somewhere as an accountant. He doesn't have his own practice. So what has he been doing these past two years?? Pretending to be his own company?? It doesn't make any sense.. I still don't have my missing two tax returns and he g wants to charge me an extra amount for work he's already completed. People if you are reading this... don't use him. I literally wasted two years. I paid him already for nothing essentially. I have to find a new accountant and pay them to do the work he supposedly did already. So I'm paying double either way but I will not pay THIS man twice who obviously sat on my returns for two years. As a real estate investor who has a pretty standard W2 job - I wanted an expert to help us (my fiance and I) get the most depreciation from our real estate investments and we were willing to pay the high premium for their expertise. Well boy, were we wrong. At first everything was going according to plan...until it wasn't.... Caroline stopped responding to emails and phone calls until I had to call her assistant multiple times a week to ask for follow ups as we were approaching our tax extension deadline quickly. Finally got a hold of Caroline and she started filing our taxes using all of our documents we sent her from Quickbooks - we also had a brief (under 5 minute conversation about potentially doing a Cost Seg on our new investment property and while we were on the phone, we both agreed it wouldn't be financially beneficial for us to do that this year and we would revisit next year). Then this is where it turned south quickly. Caroline and her team got all of our documents together and since they charged $3,000+ to file our taxes - I thought we would be getting money back to offset it. Well on the phone when she and her team went through the filing, she had stated "great news, we are going to end up with a $14,000 tax return"..... turns out on email the very same day the tax return went from $14,000 to $4,000 so barely enough to cover our costs to hire Jeff Baker & Associates. This was Red flag #1. It was honestly extremely unprofessional to state and get us excited on one number and then put in an email a completely separate number that was much lower. Also, she denies ever saying that number but both of us heard the number loud and clear and had written the same number ($14,000) down in our notebooks - so it just didn't appear out of thing air as she claimed. Red Flag #2 popped up quickly after we had realized that we wouldn't be getting any money back, instead we would be in the negatives this year after paying Caroline & her team. Caroline sends her invoice and what pops up.... an $1,250 additional charge for a Cost Segregation....which again we decided not to do and she mentioned she charged us that amount because we had that conversation with her and she provided expert advise. She then asked if I would consider a $350 discount on the $1,250 fee she was trying to charge us - absolutely laughable. Needless to say after the experience I had with her team by this point....we did not pay the additional $1,250 fee and only paid for the work she did for us. Unfortunately, Caroline and Jeff Baker & Associates was a referral and I didn't do as much due diligence as I should have. DO NOT MAKE MY MISTAKE. I would use anyone over Caroline & her team. It was an unsatisfactory experience at best and one that hurt us financially as well. We will never make that same mistake again and would never recommend this company to anyone.
