You will also find restrooms, vending machines, and a gift shop. If you are looking to learn about the natural and cultural history of the area, including the legacy of the people who lived "between the rivers" and the construction of the Tennessee and Cumberland River dams that formed the Land Between the Lakes,you will enjoy the small museum. We did not stay for the Planetarium show as we arrived too early . Definitely a good place to stop since this area is huge!

Some of the plays are just fantastic, others still good, but not rock-n-roll great. There are 2 theaters, a smaller one where they have the murder mystery dinners and more intimate plays and a larger one for the bigger productions. The cast has several regulars who do a great job as well as newer cast members from time to time. The location is great and we usually grab a bite prior to the plays at one of the local restaurants. The plays usually have cookies and drinks and you can buy a refillable plastic cup to bring back each time you come for a play. The dinner shows are fun murder mysteries and have games and other fun activities throughout the play to break things up a bit. The food is usually okay, not great, but not awful. Still, well worth the price of admission. The staff are super friendly and always great to work with, especially the ladies that help with tickets and get things arranged. The plays recently have imbedded leftwing political themes, which have been a bit off putting. Sometimes these choices have nothing to do with the play and are just imbedded for no reason. This will be our final season.

They (the cruise line) have their buses follow the ship up so when ever you dock, they set up a hop on, hop off bus route. One of the stop in Kentucky was Paducah which had a stop in front of this museum. A prior review called it sprawling. Not sure I would use that word but it was a nice size with plenty to see [and touch.] From the second you walk in you see lots and lots of items. Not being a railroad buff, I do not know the history or use of many I the thing I see here. In one corner there is a engineer's simulator, showing the controls of the engine and what the engineer's view would be. Also there was one very long model railroad in action. I always enjoy expoloring the scenery used and how the multiple trains [when they're used] interact. Within the venue of the museum, in cabinets and on the walls there are displays of post cards, posters, news clippings, and magazines. Personally, I enjoy looking at the old photos. There is, of course, a gift shop with the usual items. Some are educational and some are for fashion and fun. All were very reasonably priced! Volunteers who run these places do it for their love of the subject. The person behind the counter started telling me stories of the area and railroad in general. When in Paducah for a recent weekend we decided the Paducah Railroad Museum was a must-visit. This Railroad Museum is kind of sprawling, given the space it's located in. There are several room and A LOT of railroad memorabilia and signage. Some of the signage is hooked up as a demo and some aren't. Some of the first things you see as you enter are vintage railroad furniture dating back decades. Looking at a seat from a dining car from the Good Old Days of Railroading give me a sense of nostalgia for a time that I wish I'd been around for. In one corner there is a engineer's simulator, showing the controls of the engine and what the engineer's view would be. We didn't get to step in, but I understand that it's an option. In one enclosure is an amazingly well done model train. I've attached a pretty nifty video I took. At this scale you wouldn't know it was a model (yea, I'm that good. :) ) On display are post cards, posters, news clippings, and magazines dating back, in some cases, 100 years or more, celebrating the way railroading used to be. Since I've always been fascinated by trains and tracks, this was very much a museum I could visit often (if it weren't about 3 hours from home) There is, of course, a gift shop with the usual bobbles and trinkets. Some are educational, some are for fashion (I'd never own a neon green t-shirt until I visit this place!), some are straight up souvenirs. It's all very reasonably priced. There's a feeling of "unfinished" at the Paducah Railroad Museum. Is it as polished as some larger railroad museums? No, it's not. It's a work in progress. In one room there is what I assume to be another model railroad being built and a few displays that aren't quite ready for Prime Time. And that is OK. You can tell that this museum is constantly growing and improving, and that it's being done by people who have a genuine love and passion for railroading. I hope to visit here again some time when I have more time.

I feel like I just paid for the jar and got to fill it as full as I could with wildflowers! You go in the little cabin to check in and pick out a container for your wildflowers and pay. Then you get a pair of scissors and are let go to get flowers from all over the field. So many rows to choose from! There's also a greenhouse to go into. It was so much fun! You can also choose to make a terrarium using succulents as well. They also had merch and snacks and little gardens in a bag for sale. It was so economical and so much fun. This is a FANTASTIC thing to do with kids! It's also a beautiful spot for a photo session.
