Inside, the restaurant is modern and vibrant and i noticed a very nice wood burning oven at the back which is key to a good pizza. Its probably not fair to compare Baffo to Paesano as the types of pizza they prepare are rather different. While Paesano do a classic Neapolitan style pizza, which is wonderfully soft and doughy, Baffo's is crispier, drier and with a mucher thinner crust. Therefore for people who dont like the former they may enjoy Baffo more. My visit to Baffo was a bit mixed. Service was really slow but the staff were nice and attentive which made the wait a bit easier. When my pizza arrived, I enjoyed the flavours but felt it was a little dry and over cooked. The ingredients were of good quality and so I think there is real potential here. Another positive is the selection of Italians craft beers, perfect with a pizza! I ended my meal with a tiramisu and must say it was exceptional. The perfect balance of espresso, booze and biscuit, yummy!! As Baffo is a relatively new place, its surely only going to get better. Staff is very friendly and attentive, but I found service a bit slow both times i visited - maybe i shouldn't compare it to Paesano Pizza since they got more than one wood fire oven, but we waited for our pizza around 20 minutes, and also sides (first time we had fries and croquette, and last time just fries) took quite a bit to be served. That was my only issue, but i guess they just opened few months ago and they still need to "get it right", if you know what i mean. Pizza is really good, not the Neapolitan kind of pizza with big bready crust (Paesano style), but the traditional Italian one - thin and crispy. They have a bigger selection compared to Paesano, and also offered the option to go for either 12inch round pizza or hald metre pizza. I have only tried the 12inch one for now, but will definitely give the other one a go next time! They also serve pasta dishes, seen them a few and they look tasty - maybe will try that as well sooner or later! Dessert wise, i tried their cannoli and yummy, it was amazing, and also affogato was okay and really nice presented. It's not an enormous restaurant. A large bar/service area takes up a lot of space, as does the pizza oven at the back and as suck the seats are kind of arranged all the way around the edges. Somehow though, whenever I've wanted to sit in, they have managed to find a space for me. They do pizza and pasta mostly, with a few other Italian favourites. The coffee is really good and the cake is the ideal thing to bring as a surprise in a take away box to a friend who needs cheering up. Trust me, it never fails. The pizza comes as slices (really squares) or three other standard sizes, starting at 10 inch and is cheese and tomato by default. There isn't really a menu of standard toppings like, for example, mushroom and proscuitto, red pepper and goats cheese, Hawaiian, Four Seasons, etc. Rather, they just have all imaginable toppings and you tell them which ones you'd like. This way you pay for the toppings you want based on the size of pizza you order, and every pizza is, in that sense, personalised. Once you've placed your order you're given a buzzer (regardless of whether you're sitting in or taking out) and when it goes off you head over to that pizza oven and the chef will hand it to you with or without freshly ground black pepper, according to your preference. The pizza is always good too. Always. The base is great and the toppings are reliably fresh and delicious. Sadly, the days are gone when a snapfax and £4 could get you a pizza and a can of soda but their still very fairly priced for the quality you can expect.

The pizzas tasted OK, but we were also very very hungry by the time it came. I would have ordered more food but were terrified it would take too long so we left still hungry. We tried the branch in Princes Square first, but with over an hour to wait with a hungry kid we opted to visit this branch just off George Square. We had to wait about 15 mins on this busy Saturday night, and we have a sneaking suspicion the kind, but slightly too enthusiastic waitress might have given us a table quicker due to the tired child and the harassed look the adults were sporting. My friend opted for to go for the £6.50 piccolo menu for her daughter which consisted of a starter of dough balls, followed by a choice of pizza or pasta dish, a choice of dessert either ice cream or chocolate cake/brownie and a Bambinoccino (basically a frothy milk with chocolate). This proved great value and was devoured without much complaint. We both opted for the Leggera Pizzas - lighter pizzas with a salad in the middle. I went for the Goats Cheese which was sweet with lovely caramelised onions and spinach, whilst my friend opted for a chicken version. These were really tasty despite being lower in calories than a lot of pizzas and I think theres a real potential for restaurants to make some dishes slightly healthier, or more moderate portions catering for more health conscious eaters. To finish my friend went for a black coffee and I tagged on a mini dolcetti chocolate gluten free brownie which was rich and ganache like and just enough to end the meal. Prices are as you would expect, about £10 for a pizza, £5 for dessert - not the cheapest by any means but the food was fairly good quality. Our waitress was lovely and very friendly although we did find the service particularly slow, but I think on this particular night the restaurant was particularly busy. However, I would say though that I much prefer the Princes Square branch. There's seating both up and downstairs but we did find some of the facilities toilets etc a little run down, and from a quick look downstairs we both thought it looked a little dark and unatmospheric. The whole place was very clean, and felt very safe as our first visit to a sit down restaurant since the lockdown has been lifted.
