Essentially, students can determine what they want from the class, whether it be a laid back, relaxing drawing session, or a three hour, intensive skills training. I've personally never taken any classes from her other instructors, but I've only heard good things. I strongly recommend learning Chinese painting from Ichen, as she is one of the best teachers around. Under her tutelage, I've been able to compete nationally and win awards for my paintings. Plus, she's a fantastic person and a joy to be around.

I came in with a love for art, but little knowledge in the technical aspects. Through Ichen's summer programs, I got to explore many different media including charcoal, oil painting, and digital. The academy's instructors are very well educated in the arts and provide a plethora of resources and materials to help me succeed. They provided guidance in composition, technique, color, etc. while motivating me to enter my art into competitions... ultimately which I won a few! Ryan, Ichen Art Academy's Artist in Residence, has provided me with fantastic support over the years. I got a perfect balance of instruction and freedom to allow for the full expression of my artistry. I never felt bored or unmotivated because the instructors constantly provide me with ideas and recommendations when I'm stuck. My AP and college application portfolios both contributed largely to my successful MIT application process, and I am forever indebted to my time at Ichen for this accomplishment.

The only reason we eventually stopped going was because our family moved out of the area -- otherwise, we would have happily continued. Over those seven years, we watched our daughters grow tremendously as young artists. Ms. Mu is not only a talented and accomplished artist, but also a genuinely caring, patient, and dedicated teacher. Her studio is always welcoming, warm, and a wonderful place for children to learn and create. What makes Ms. Mu's teaching truly special is that it goes far beyond technical art skills. She encourages students to explore their creativity, develop their own artistic voice, challenge themselves, and discover their own potential. She inspires them to genuinely enjoy art rather than simply complete an assignment. Our daughters always looked forward to their classes, and we are so grateful for the many years of guidance, encouragement, and inspiration Ms. Mu gave them. Seven years is a long time for a family to stay with a teacher, and that says a lot about the quality of the experience. We highly recommend Ran's Art Studio to any family looking for an excellent art teacher and a nurturing, creative environment. We only wish we still lived close enough for our daughters to continue learning with Ms. Mu!

Before joining her studio, I had taken art classes with several teachers. Although they were patient and even helped fix parts of my paintings, I always felt dependent on them. Once I left class, I didn't know how to continue on my own, and my paintings never had the confidence or impact I wanted. Ms. Mou completely changed that. She demonstrates techniques but never paints for her students. Instead, she teaches you how to think like an artist, encouraging you to develop your own style. She guided me through paintings I never thought I could create, and now many of my finished pieces proudly hang on the walls of my home. After seeing my own progress, I transferred both of my children to Ran's Art Studio. The biggest surprise was my son. He is very talented but also very opinionated and difficult to teach. He had worked with several teachers and even private instructors, yet had reached a plateau and rarely accepted guidance. During his trial class with Ms. Mou, he looked at the painting assignment and immediately said, "There's no way I can paint that." Ms. Mou simply smiled and said, "Follow my process, and you can." A few hours later, he had finished a painting that amazed even himself. On the way home, he told me, "Mom, I want to keep learning from this teacher." That was the moment I knew we had found the right teacher. My daughter has also grown tremendously. Her artwork has become much more sophisticated, and she has gained confidence in expressing her own creativity. What I admire most is that Ms. Mou never asks students to copy her. Even in group classes, every student creates something unique. She encourages independent thinking, creativity, and personal expression while building strong artistic skills. Ms. Mou isn't just teaching people how to paint--she helps her students discover abilities they didn't know they had. We are incredibly grateful for everything she has taught our family.

The director gave a lecture to these parents and said something like "if you're only going to enroll your child for a short period of time then you might as well don't enroll your child because in order to see some results you need at least couple years." Art class should be a fun place with welcoming atmosphere, in art, you don't have to try to convince us or say much about it, it just shows it from how you interact with others.

Before starting teach, all the teachers received a well training not only in art profession but also in children education. Regarding the curriculum, I am not sure what does that mean for "The Art curriculum they use are not American, but Chinese (from Taiwan), ". Yes, they teach Chinese Ink drawing in a very unique way, but my son also learned 3D house interior design, sculpturing using recyclable materials, sketching, water coloring, and a lot of different kinds of very creative curriculum. For me, the value of SoHo is not only learning different kinds of art skills, most important are that children here like art and learn to appreciate art.

It's with disappointment that I'm updating my review of Mission Valley ROP, and deducting a star…read more As a graduate of American High School and Mission Valley ROP, having taken 3 different courses through ROP, and even earned college credit in one of them, I felt fortunate to have had the pleasure of taking Business Ownership, Marketing, and Law Enforcement. However, it has come to my attention, that the current students at American High are currently without an Instructor for Culinary Arts, therefore the students are being "taught" by "substitutes". I get that teacher shortages are happening everywhere, and we are just getting through a global pandemic, but at the same time it's not like the previous Instructor Chef Rosen, decided to retire last minute. They knew well in advance, and you would think they would have been able to get an instructor before the school year started. If for some reason, they weren't able to find an instructor, which seems to be the case now, why even offer the course this year at all until an instructor is found? I've heard that students are trying switch out of the class and into other classes because they don't have an instructor, and are still being taught by substitutes. It's such a shame many of these students who are seniors, many of which who are coming out of distance learning, signed up for Culinary Arts, yet are being taught by substitutes. They probably aren't even being taught much or learning much about Culinary Arts. I hope Mission Valley ROP is doing everything they can to get a qualified instructor to teach Culinary Arts at American, as there are 4 Culinary Arts classes and 1 Event Planning course offered at American. If anything, perhaps they should ask Chef Rosen to come back until a permanent instructor can be found? Just to show the impact of taking an ROP class, not only did I earn College Credit for one of the courses I took, to this day, I still stay in touch with one of my instructors, Sergeant Crawford. Unfortunately, the other instructor I had, Mr. Gary Marsh sadly passed away a few years ago.
