My daughter's teacher Ms. Ariana is good at inspiring students by setting up the topics, looking for references, coming up with thumbnails, and polishing the artwork to its best quality. I rarely left review on Yelp unless the business is really good. CalColor Academy rolled out its first adult art class last year, and the leading teacher was Mr. Justin, who specialized in watercolor- probably the most difficult painting technique I've always wanted to learn. There were only a few spots open for the first adult class, and I was lucky to get one. Within a 2hrs-only class, Mr. Justin did not waste any minute to teach us (mostly beginners) the most critical technique to observe the objects and how to use watercolor bring the object alive on our artwork. Everyone was so proud of their artwork at the end. The entire class was also like a art therapy, fun and very relaxing after a long day at work. Plus, I'd also like to recommend the site manager, Yishu. She's very responsive and paitent when answering my registration and class information. Great place for kids to learn art! The teachers are extremely patient and knowledgeable. The courses are well designed. There is something akin to syllabus at the end of previous quarter that illustrates what to be taught in the next quarter. The kids can learn/get exposure to various different styles of arts. I would give CalColor five stars. My brother and I went to the summer camp last week. CalColor is a very kid-friendly art school. The classes you take during summer camp are set by ages. I took the digital art and anime/manga art. My brother took the oil painting and the clay class. The teachers are all very nice and they are patient. Kids can have a good time when their teachers are nice to them. Our experience with this art class was pretty good. I was able to learn how to use Photoshop in about two days. My little brother finished a very big canvas and a couple little clay sculptures. Because the clay needs to be fired up, you need to go back to the place to pick up the clay. Lunch is provided. The lunch comes in 3-4 party trays and you pick what you want and the teacher will put it on your plate. Their is a different variety every day of the week. Their is a snack time in the middle of class. Chips and juice is provided. Their prices are excellent. The more people you go with, the bigger discount you get. I went with my brother (obviously), my best friend, and a girl from my brother's school. So there was a pretty big discount. I also think that it is very cute and encouraging how the teachers refer to the kids as "My Artists". If you are looking for a good summer camp, CalColor is the best place to go. read more

Ligang reached out to us and offered a month of lessons for our kid. So far we are pretty impressed with the lessons and the curriculum they offer. Their make up policy is pretty good for missed classes. We tried both in person and zoom lessons and both were pretty good. The teacher parent communication is very good and parents are well informed about the subsequent lesson plans. read more

The founder, Ms. Lan is very enthusiastic and experienced, with background both in China and US. My two kids loves drawing there. I am sitting at CalColor writing this review. Took my 5 years old here for a trial. We got to the door for the class a couple minutes behind. I wanted my kid to get in class right away. My first impression of the place is typical Asian business that offer unprofessional and low quality service. As I walked in, there was a kid (her son?) sitting at the computer and just stared at me. I was looking for someone to greet me or instruct me where to go or what to do. Then I asked the parent sitting in the waiting room if she knows where the front desk person went and she was standing outside the door talking to a client on the phone that I walked by when I entered the door. I made sure to give her my eye contact. She saw me but just ignored me. She didn't give me any signal to acknowledge she saw me and will get to me or what not. Then I saw the classroom door was open with little kids and class was about to start. Assuming that was the class and I approached closer to the door. Unexpectedly, the instructor shut the door on me and my son. I didn't get a chance to say anything. I waited for at least 10 minutes constantly staring at the person on the phone. Then the front desk person returned to her desk but she couldn't tell the client on the phone to hold so she can ask me if I needed something or tell me she would be right with me. After she's done with her phone call, she spent a good amount of time helping that little kid behind the desk with something that must be more important than me as a customer. I watched her and await for her eye contact again but cold nothing. I was this close to walk out the door. Then she finally greeted me and asked if I needed help. Then I told her I need to put my son in the trial class but no one showed me where to go and now we're late. She said, "oh, sorry! It's ok." Then she called my son to get in class right away. She entered the classroom and told the instructor that there's one more student. They haven't started on anything yet except having a white paper. When my son reached the door, the instructor said to him, "class started 15 minutes ago, ok." I don't want to be harsh, but I don't feel the love here at all. My kid is 5 years old. The instructor couldn't say a happy hi but rather pressured him that he was 15 minutes late (when he was there but couldn't come in)? I don't know if I want my kid to go here. read more
