Even though the instructor goes through a step by step process, you're implored to do WHATEVER YOU WANT ! For example, some in my session painted their own creation entirely, while I kept the portrait the same, and just changed the colors to a neon color palette. My espresso martini was so yummy. The drinks are not included in the $30-39 booking price. I've had more expensive painting experiences that included a drink, so I figured this evened out as far as competitor pricing goes. I will say though, my group of 6 almost all ordered different drinks and everyone loved theirs and grabbed a second. Considering everything , I felt the price point was adequate for all that is offered and the long time slot provided. I will for sure be back for date night!

Upon arrival to actually getting ready to pick out a piece and actual going into the shop to assist and learn what all goes into the process. Mike is exceptional as an teacher and instructor as you will find. He has a great resume and knows what he is doing. This is a smaller shop, however the output of designs is far from small. It is large on quality and creativity. Mike worked with each of us (a group of 4, 2 grandkids and 2 adults). Not only did we get first hand instructions and guidance, we were able to see other glassblowers in action. We ended up with 3 pumpkins and 1 snowman. Mike also gave provided us with some of the top universities that offer glassblowing and how to get started. It is a fairly tedious journey in learning all the in's and outs of glass blowing and design and what works and what doesn't. We were truly impressed and may look at Fire Studio and Gallery for some xmas presents. This might be a bit expensive art, however it is usually one of a kind and in personal gifts, that means a lot.

I had already followed the studio's…read moreInstagram page but when I saw they were having an open house with free pottery painting, giveaways and food, I knew I had to go! We were warmly welcomed at the door and given instruction on everything happening in the little studio space. The first thing I noticed was the plethora of glaze colors. I painted a small vase in one of the speckled colors. We entered the giveaways, snacked on an impressive charcuterie board and sipped a tasty margarita. The owner checked us out after painting, she was friendly and so grateful we stopped in. We chose a mystery pottery item for $10 before leaving, it was a small colorful vase. If you've been thinking about taking a pottery class, I suggest checking this place out! (They also have take home pottery kits).

Weird Louisville is my favorite Louisville…read more Case in point: Sheherazade. I had heard tell of this 'gallery' several times. But I had no idea where it was or what to really expect. So on a Friday night, wandering around Old Louisville on our way to Mag Bar, my friends were like "Hey! We should look at the art garage!" And I thought "....huh??" That art garage is Sheherazade. It is a single room, a basement or a former garage, closed behind a clear-paned door/wall so you can see inside. Because of this set up, it is always open/viewable. So my first experience with it was at 11pm on a weekend night. The current exhibit (I forgot to snap the name and artist) is a sort of take down of "patriotism" and 'MERICA-ness. Now that I know where and what and how about this spot, I foresee regular return visits to see new exhibits when they pop up!

It's always open, meaning you can stagger out of Mag Bar in the middle of the night to see the exhibition. But your only viewpoint is through the locked glass door. (For some reason, Yelp has business hours posted here -- ignore 'em.) In a way, the gallery -- look for it on the Magnolia side -- is mad genius. First of all, it's an awesome use of a one-car garage. Also, there's no overhead required to have some dude sit and stare at his laptop when the gallery is 'open'. And what could be more populist than a gallery that doesn't require its patrons to do anything except turn their necks as they walk down the street? Of course, any gallery is only as good as its art. The advantages and restrictions of this space are stark enough to encourage some really interesting installations, especially if they are site-specific creations. My first visit, I'm pleased to report, was unimpeded by smudgy glass, and I resisted the temptation to press my own nose up to the window. But the daytime glare did present some problems. Whether future exhibitions prove to be interesting or not, we all have a lot more reason to turn down this particular block of Magnolia.

I believe these type of events are more about the experience. They can be fun for a group event with family, friends or co-workers. CONS: It is in the basement, so there are no windows (if that is something that bothers you). The instructor talked too much (personal, not conversational), and would disappear unexpectedly at different times. She only came around a couple of times to offer tips and assistance, and seemed a bit impatient. The setup was a bit awkward from some viewpoints, as there are pillars in the middle of the room. They have monitors to assist, but it can still be hard to see what they're doing, and the "color chart" was impossible to see for most of us. It felt like we spent a lot of time mixing colors, and then quickly dabbing the paint on canvas to catch up with the instructor. We felt rushed. I believe the sessions are supposed to be 2.5 to 3 hours, but we were there about 2 hours at most. PROS: It's in the heart of downtown Jeff, near great restaurants and the Big 4 walking bridge, all in walking distance. There is a lot of free parking nearby as well. There were bright paintings all down the hallways, and in the large basement studio, which cheered up the space. It was neat and clean, and everything was easily accessible. The instructor was friendly and joked around with us some. She put on a playlist of music, which was her own choice of hits but she offered to put on something we would like if we wanted. We had a good time joking off and on while we tried to follow along. We all ended up with different results, and had fun being together and laughing at our mistakes. Overall, we had fun, but because that is what we brought into it. A big part of these experiences does lie with the instructor (or host you could say) and their skill at hospitality as well as art. I admit I wouldn't return if I knew the same instructor or someone similar was leading it. (She mentioned several times that she was the owner's daughter.) Opinions and experiences are subjective, so you should check it out for yourself.

This is my first time doing a "sip and paint" and I really enjoyed it and would repeat in the future. They have discounted session prices on Tuesdays. The new location has only been open for a week and would be a great idea for the holidays as a place to gather for a fun time or also as a gift idea for even the non-artist in your life. Plenty of free public parking located across the street as well as behind the building. Enter through the glass doors and travel down the stairs to a welcoming art space in the basement. The instructor greeted us and directed us to pick out our paints, protective aprons, and brushes and we chose our easel stations. They also sell wine and beer and snacks and frequent take breaks as needed during the evening to accommodate refreshment and stretching your legs after sitting for an hour. I chose a $6 glass of Cabernet and the entire paint session is typically 2-1/2 to 3 hours long. I also purchased a really cute t-shirt for $15, which supposedly can be custom ordered in various colors, sizes, and multiple designs. An inspiration picture is displayed at the front of the classroom and the instructor provides step-by-step instructions to replicate the image. Our instructor was Moira for this particular project, and she was very helpful in providing individual assistance as needed or requested. Her expertise was very helpful! As you can see from my impressionistic version of the original piece, art is in the eye of the beholder! I had fun, which was my main objective here.
