A friend and I decided to take a pottery class here without any experience whatsoever. We had a…read moreblast. There are only four people in the class because the instructor stays in the middle of four pottery wheels so she can assist. She did not take the project over she just verbally instructed with one or two instances of having hands on to shape or repair the clay. I was shocked at how wonderful our projects came out. It was one of the most therapeutic things I have ever experienced . My friend and I are both in the nursing field so this was greatly needed. We want to take another class so we can get even better but we are waiting till cooler weather since we are both outdoor girls. I would highly recommend taking this class at least once.

We were so excited to come in and make our own pottery for a reasonable price. The class was fun…read moreand we were given the option of painting it then or we could come back at a later time and paint it with studio paints and make designs, so we chose that option this class was in November). We went to paint these on February 13. We did very detailed pieces with flowers and intricate designs. The studio told me that they would be done within two weeks to a month. After a month passed, I called to see if our pieces were done, they weren't. After this, I called every week as the studio never followed up with me. Our pieces were finally done on April 3rd. So, I went in on the 4th to pick them up at opening. I waited an extra 15 minutes after opening and they had no one there, I knocked on the door and no one came. They did not have it anywhere that they were closed. I finally picked up our pieces and this studio absolutely destroyed our pieces. They melted the glaze and did not heat them in the proper temperature and ruined all our work designing them. So after 6 months, our pieces are going in the garbage. There was no apology for trashing our pieces or offer to reimburse us or to come in and redo them. It was so unfortunate that the team did not care to make things right.

I've been coming to the Des Moines Art Festival for years…read more Food truck, drinks, live music pepper the streets of Downtown DSM. They have the streets around the PapaJohns Sculpture park blocked, which is the perfect addition to the festival. Artists come from all around the US to get into this festival. The art is higher quality. If you wish to add to your collection you may have to shell out a little more money. They do include local art students. Local school children's art. There are interactive art instillation's. This year we contributed to a piece they will put in a local school when completed. They gave us a tile and a little visual to try and match. Then they sprayed them to lock in the medium for installation at a later time. We like to get involved in these almost every year. Get yourself an adult beverage and sip and enjoy. We take a slow walk around the booths. We try and take in as much as we can. So many different varieties of art and mediums. They have live music , performers, film and sometimes you can catch live demos. Thousands of people come down. This year they added a sensory space for people who need a break from the craziness of it all. Street parking where you can find it. You can bring your kids or fur babies. Although it always seems to be so darn hot, that I wouldn't recommend the fur babies on the hot streets. We try and go one of the first days cause it gets crazy busy the rest of the weekend. You will always find something new each year. Go and enjoy it. I don't have a bunch of pictures cause I always get so immersed in the event I leave my phone in my pocket. It is also frowned upon if you don't ask the artist permission before. So my lack of photos is an excuse for you to go check it out.

Wow...I saw Kathleen's work at the Iowa Arts Summit in August of 2018 and was able to watch…read morethroughout the day as it progressed. It was unbelievable to see the depth of her creation and to see how effortlessly she pulled it off. She was also very approachable when interrupted for questions or comments. At the end of the day, several of us had to have out photos taken on her final project.
