My girlfriends and I wanted to have a fun girls night out and this place totally fulfilled the purpose! We all did the "choose your own sign" class. The process was pretty simple, you have to sign up for the class online and then choose the board you want to make. The gallery has tons of designs to choose from. Also the nice thing is if you are undecided you can let them know by indicating online "undecided". As long as you email the choice of the board a week prior to class you are good to go. They need that advance notice so that they can prep each board for your own special design. Most designs are $65 but I went with the clock with is $85. We arrived 15 mins early as requested and brought a ton of wine and food to eat an drink while creating our masterpieces. They do supply cups for you if you are drinking wine so you don't have to worry about bringing wine glasses. We did end up bringing small plates and napkins for the apps that we brought. Our instructor Emily was so much fun to work with. Our group was the last one of the night and she was so patient and let us have our fun. If you are looking for something different to try with your family, friends, or your significant other-this is definitely a must try. The nice thing is you walk away with something that you would actually want to hang up in your house and had fun while creating it.

Board & Brush was a fun girls night out. They have so many designs to fit almost anyone's taste. Everything from cute sayings, holiday decor, to clocks. The staff is very friendly and helpful. This is one of the best "painting" class I have taken around town. They make sure you are happy with your finished project. You can also bring snacks and beverages to enjoy while crafting.

Seven Oaks Recreation - Going up!

Honestly a great little place to enjoy some winter sports in Central Iowa!…read more Obviously there is no mountains here so the slopes are as to be expected. The lodge area isn't anything fancy but it was actually larger than I expected. They also offer rentals for an additional fee to your lift ticket - skis, boards, boots, helmets, poles, etc. I am extremely impressed with the staff. I had only been snowboarding once about ten years ago and my husband never had. We were extremely nervous if we were going to pick it up and debated on paying for a private lesson. I would not advise paying for a lesson...Seven Oaks has many instructors perched on the learning/bunny hill. They offer group lessons on the hour but if you can find a free instructor and ask, they will give you their own sort of private lesson. That is what we did. An awesome board instructor spent about 15-20 minutes with us one-on-one, explained the basics and did some hands on instructing. After that, we both picked it up very quickly and could make it over to the more legit, but beginner hill. As I mentioned the lodge was more than I was anticipating. They have a concession stand, bar with pizza by the slice, and coffee shop. Lots of ample seating and even a large TV in the coffee shop area, we caught some of the Iowa State game while we were eating lunch. We would go back. It is a great option for the flat plains of Iowa.k

The river itself was stunning, we had gorgeous weather, and they had a small concession stand with necessities like bug spray available for purchase. Unfortunately, I still wouldn't recommend this experience when there are other options around Iowa for a similar price. We were told when reserving that if the river was too low, we would have the option to reschedule, which I think is a great policy. However, our reservation was on the last day of the season, so realistically rescheduling wasn't an option for us. My biggest issue wasn't even the low river level as the kayaks were doing great in the water- it was that the representative checking us in allowed us to take out a single canoe for our group knowing we would be dealing with less than a foot of water in some areas. This was our first time canoeing and kayaking, so we were relying on the staff's expertise. I really would have appreciated someone recommending that we switch from the canoe to a more maneuverable kayak given the conditions that day. Instead, we ended up having to get out and push the canoe for a large portion of the trip. It was exhausting, and for some customers, it may not even be physically possible. As a first-time floater who brought out-of-state friends specifically for this activity, I wasn't expecting the river conditions to be perfect. We were prepared to make the best of it. What I did expect was some guidance from the company about how to have the best experience possible given the conditions that day. I'd recommend choosing Seven Oaks to be more proactive about advising inexperienced customers, matching the right equipment to the river conditions, and allowing some flexibility to switch boats once you arrive.

The sweet potato fries were a little underdone, though. I had a cheeseburger, but I kind of wish I had tried the bacon mac and cheese. The server was polite and attentive. My grandchildren loved all the games. Grandma here watched and enjoyed their happiness. Of course, the place is extremely loud with a zillion bright lights, but that's to be expected. Still it was nice to have some quiet once we left. It was a fun afternoon.

Close parking to the front entrance can be hard to find at peak times even with the business being adjacent to Jordan Creek Mall. There's plenty of spots, but you might have to hike a little. My guess is mall guests utilize the parking right in front of Dave & Buster's too while they shop. The gentlemen at the host station said the wait for a table would be 1 1/2 hours despite there being visibly plenty of open tables... Not enough staff to cover all the sections maybe? Or maybe they were reserved...? There were seats open at the bar so we headed that direction. The full food menu is available at the bar too. Seating is mostly larger open booths, high top tables and chairs, and the seating at the bar. Our bartender/server was nice enough. We ordered the following: 1x Cheese Stick Stack - "Extra-large crispy cheese sticks topped with shredded Parmesan. Served with marinara sauce." 1x Bar Burgers & Wings Platter. Wings with honey barbecue - "Smashed burger sliders paired with Bone-In Wings with your choice of sauce or dry rub. Served with seasoned fries and celery sticks with your choice of ranch or bleu cheese." 1x Hottie burger and fries - "Two cajun-spiced smashed burger patties, topped with pickled jalapeños, pepperjack cheese, lettuce, pickles, tomato, onions, jalapeño ranch, and a fried jalapeño." 2x Fountain drinks (Coke products) 1x Dangerous Waters Island Punch - "Malibu Coconut, Blue Curaçao, pineapple, and fresh citrus mix." As nice as our bartender was I think he keyed something in wrong with the Bar Burgers & Wings Platter. The wings were forgotten. They (him and a manager) straightened it out and adjusted our bill a little. The food was all good. The stand out to both of us was the Cheese Stick Stack. This is an awesome app with an epic cheese pull! The wings were REALLY good too... After our food and drinks we spent some time playing games. Just messing around... A good mix of old or new arcade games. Skee ball, basketball games, clown ball toss, whack a mole, water gun race, coin pushes, wheels of chance, etc. The place was clean and there were staff available on the floor if you ran into any problems or had questions. A decent way to kill an afternoon. https://www.daveandbusters.com/

We were staying in the Des Moines area and looking to kill some time before heading to the theatre…read moreon a Saturday, and a quick Google search brought us to Painting with a Twist. We were intrigued by the idea of painting and pouring a candle, even though we aren't artistic by any means and felt a bit out of our element. We were "walk-ins" and when we arrived, they set us up with paints and materials, and showed us the books to choose a design with step-by-step instructions. Beverages were available for purchase - we had cans of soda (2 for $3, very reasonable!). The vibe is creative and welcoming, and the staff are friendly, encouraging, and make you feel artistic even if you're not. There's space for both scheduled sessions and walk-ins, as well as painting classes (one started after we arrived). Everything felt very organized and cohesive. Once we finished our paintings, a staff member guided us through pouring our candles - we even mixed scents, and they smelled amazing! After pouring, we left and returned about two hours later to pick up our finished candles. We had a fantastic time. This was a fun, creative, and inexpensive experience - just $63 total for the two of us to each paint and pour a scented candle, plus two beverages. Highly recommend! Disclaimer: I said I'm not an artist, so go easy on me when you see my pics! :-)
