The Glen is a wooded area in the heart of the town which has been enjoyed by locals and visiters…read morefor at least as long ago as the 17th century. Today it is managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust. It is home to a variety of native plants and flowers, visit the glen in the spring and the groung is covered in a mass carpet of bluebells. Oak and Sycamore trees dominate the tree spicies in the wood but there are a few elm, ash and beech to be found. Another aspect of the glen are the large number of breading birds in the area including garden warblers, green woodpeckers, blackcaps and jays. The area is also taken care of by Friends of Cumbernauld Glen, this group organise events in the glen including procesions and clean up days. The glen also contains the recently restored Dovecote. This building dates from the 17th century and was used to rear birds for the table of the local lairds. In short Cumbernauld Glen is a treasure trove of wildlife and a wonderfull, peacefull place to visit. The townspeople of Cumbernauld are increadably lucky to have such a fantastic, natural place so close to enjoy.

It has a fab path all the way around for an easy walk in the sun or there are plenty of little paths into the woods surrounding if you're feeling a little more adventurous. With loads of green space on all sides, even on the busiest days this park, Drumpelier can accommodate every need. Whether that be a picnic, a five-a-side game or even fishing, you won't feel anything but relaxed here. If you haven't packed a lunch there's a little cafe in the main building which unfortunately I've never tried. I just love a picnic!!! It also has a great play park at the far end of the car park, suitable for all ages. This area can get a touch busy on the sunnier days but I've never been and felt like we've waited long for my little one to have a go on the swings or in the sandpit. It's really dog friendly here too. I've found myself losing an afternoon on a trip with my hair baby just chatting to other dog owners on the way round. If you're finding yourself looking for somewhere to while away a sunny day then get in the car and head here. Don't forget the picnic basket!

We took my little boy and his cousin here on Sunday for the Classic Car Show and I must say I was…read morereally impressed. The entire area was used well and it was clearly a very popular day out! There were loads of cars, tram journeys on classic tram cars, pipe bands, characters for the kids... Loads of family fun! The queue for food was chaotic but I had packed a picnic just in case (always prepared!) There's a lovely little bit down by the canal that was very quiet and we sat here for lunch practically undisturbed and able to enjoy the view. My hubby is a massive car nut and he loved the different cars that were there. We spent a good amount of time wandering around while he inspected all the cars that took his fancy. My son loved the pipe bands and danced along to these quite the thing! He practically took a run at the minion character who was taking photos with the kids for charity and gave him a massive hug, which genuinely made my day! It was a lovely addition to the day. I'd love to come back here and get to spend a bit of time in the heritage museum. It's a great place to wander around and there's a huge park I'm sure my little one would love to explore. I feel like we've only really scratched the surface of this place and I can't wait to go back.

The Carron Valley. I would say it was a hidden gem…read more If you enjoy walking, cycling or fishing this will tick a fair few boxes. Tucked away in the middle of nowhere it might seem but there are many ways to get here. Some more scenic. You can go up through the campsie hills heading to Fintry. Or head to Kilsyth and take the Takmadoon road. I tend these days to hit the M80 and come through Stoneywood and a wee place called Fankerton. When you arrive at the car park you are now asked to pay. Just like in most forestry type places. To help with the upkeep. £1 for the hour, £2 for 2 hours and £3 for the day. Not much. Toilets on site. Not much phone signal and no shops. So buy stuff before you head over. Picnic tables are available. For fishing, you will have to get a permit. Use the link above which will give you directions and show you a tariff. MTB they have a couple of trails. They have a little skills area which is being constructed at the moment. You will be guided through this from the car park. Then follow the main 'road'. The reservoir dam will appear on your right hand side and the trails will start on the left. You can take the trails up or just follow the road. For an ideal warm up I would suggest the trails. Trail names are Pipedream, Eas Dubh, The Cannonball Run and the Runaway. All trails will have jumps here and there but you can miss them out as there is a path right next to them which cuts them out. All great fun. Something to try out. You can even cycle round the reservoir or walk it. Just follow the roads or take the paths marked just beyond the car park. Both trails or round the reservoir will give you a good workout. I don't know too much about this, but they have built a Medieval village. Which is open on some weekends. I really don't know what is going on with it but you can see it as you are cycling. Looks quite cool. Also heard Russell Crowe had helped out a little. Only 4 stars because I feel it could do with a little bit more. Extra trails or improvements. No phone signal is a bit of a worry too.

Can't recommend it highly enough. Not sure if it would be better if it was extended and had a shop. Something for the cooncil tae think about. Could be a money spinner maybe. One thing to add, there is a meter in the car park which is about 2 quid for a few hours.

I've been inside, around the outside, and taken pictures. 2011 was the first time I really looked around this place, and I thought it was really cool that this stadium existed in Glasgow, when there are much bigger stadiums nearby that are much more famous. It doesn't get full, though, and doesn't generate the atmosphere that other Glaswegian stadia do, so I give it a 3. So when I was doing my first tour of Scotland in 2011, I also hit up every single stadium in the country. My obsession with footy (soccer to Americans) is the reason. Every stadium review - like all my reviews - are based on first-hand personal experience, usually from multiple visits. As recently as Fall 2014, when I was "stuck" in UK for 3 months, I went to most of them yet again while travelling. I have pictures of me at many of them, which I will post later. Also, when back in Scotland I plan to take more pix, and add more stadia! So watch this space! *** return to regular review *** So anyway. 8k in the stands and an artificial pitch, and some weird designs, these facts alone earn this stadium three stars. It opened in 94 and cost 8 mil. It's the home of 2 other teams as well in other sports, as well as Clyde FC. This team relocated though, and I don't like when that happens. At all.

Broadwood Stadium is located beside Broadwood Loch in the Westfield area of Cumbernauld…read more It is the home ground of Clyde football club, a Scottish first division team, who relocated here from Glasgow in 1994. The ground has a capacity of just over 8,000 and is all seated in three covered stands. There does not tend to be very big crowds at the matches and as with most smaller clubs the atmosphere can be a bit muted. The seats afford a good veiw of the action on the park and there is adiquite leg room. Broadwood stadium can get quite chilly at times so I would advise wrapping up warm. It is easy to get to and has a carpark in which you can leave your car for the small charge of £2 and there is usualy spaces. The stadium also houses five aside piches which can be used by the public as well as a gym. I have enjoyed a few games at this great wee stadium.
