The facility workers need to do a better job with enforcing rules & there should be some changes with the number of non-residents that flood the gym.
The park district floors are trashed because the facility allows shoes that are worn outdoors on the indoor courts. Not sure if this is a rule, so it's possibly a pass. If it isn't a rule, it should be. Slippery floors are not safe and can lead to injuries.
Signs are posted in at least 4 places that I have recently seen that face coverings are required regardless of vaccination status. On any given open gym night, less than 50% of the people there actually follow the rule, and it's not addressed by the facility. Easily an unsafe super COVID spreader event.
During this most recent open gym, the main gym was significantly overcrowded. There are signs posted in at least 2 places that the max capacity is 100 souls. The limit may not have been breached, but it's been close at least a few times that I've witnessed. Forget about sharing court time. A majority of the guys there are a bunch of selfish pigs, not willing to share court time despite being asked nicely. There were several witnesses that saw a physical fight almost start, yet no signs of the facility team stepping in to mitigate or control the court usage.
This gym could and should be managed much better - specially for the amount of taxes we pay. I'd like to be able to use the facilities that I pay for, but simply can't with all the out of towners taking over the gym. Facility Leadership Team, please take a look at the ratio of resident to non-residents that attend open gym nights. I'm sure you will find 30% to 60% are non-residents. Raise the non-resident fees and cap the number of non-residents that can attend any given night. Give your tax paying residents a break.
To the rest of the patrons, I'm very sad to say that Falcon Park on open gym nights has been like a powder keg waiting to explode. I'd stay away from this facility if you're looking for a place to chill out, get some exercise, and have a good time. You're wasting your time, and it's flat out not safe for at least a couple different reasons as I stated above. Some of the people at the front desk are either not empowered, or just don't care enough to do anything... at least for the last few times that I've been there. Take a look yourself and you'll see groups of them at a time... sitting on their phones behind the front desk... maskless. Hopefully the Department of Facilities will realize what's going on and push down some badly needed changes. If anything, require the front desk enforce some very important safety rules and equal playing time.
(There are maybe 1 or 2 people that work the front desk and are very good at enforcing masks, and at one point in time equal playing time for open gym. I use Falcon Park on a regular basis but have not seen them lately.)
