Palazzo Castri 1874 was lovely from the moment we walked into the lobby. We were greeted by a friendly front desk staff. We were a bit early for our check-in so they held our luggage for us and we at an AMAZING lunch in the courtyard of the hotel. There we had THE best Ragu dish we had our entire stay. We spent a lot of time in the lovely courtyard. This small hotel is such a gem within a very busy city. Each day as we came back to the hotel after exploring we felt we were out in the country escaping the noice and bustle of our surroundings. Our room faced the courtyard as well so sleeping with the windows open was perfect. The hotel was immaculate. The staff were lovely and helpful when ever we needed anything. The rooms were perfect. We had a king bed! Service was impeccable. We stayed in a number of hotels on this trip and Palazzo Castri's breakfast was THE best. And our favorite of all of the hotels. Each morning you are greeted with smiles and wonderful coffee and wide variety of wonderful items to start your day. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and cannot wait to return next time. I highly recommend !! The hotel is located around the corner from the famous of Mercado Centrale, which is a lot of fun and an easy walk to all of the city attractions.

Junior Suite upgrade. So much room and sunlight. Hospitality unmatched- every request to the concierge was met with enthusiasm.

Incredible service, rooms, restaurant and atmosphere. Bravo to the staff for making it feel like home!

This hotel has had a very nice renovation the décor and ambiance is top notch. We have been backpacking around Europe but staying in hotels that are 4 stars or more and this one is far superior than the Ritz and Four Seasons in customer service. The moment we walked in, we were greeted with a smile and the room was upgraded -- we didn't ask for an upgrade it was given to us. We had booked a classic room with a king but we received a huge room/suite. The spa and Turkish bath experience is included in your room rate so after having a sore neck and back pains from my heavy back pack it was so nice to relax and chill in the pool. The pool is half indoor and half outdoor, really fun to swim back and forth. The hydromassage is super fun to experience. The summer weather in Florence is sweltering and so the pool is much appreciated. Breakfast was included in our room rate as well and the spread is great with a lot of choices. When trying to figure out where to stay in Florence treat yourself and book this place, it's worth it.

    Awesome breakfast!

It appears this hotel has been renovated or is under new management. It is absolutely gorgeous and the service is top notched and phenomenal! I am writing this review in the lounge on the day of our departure. My wife and I stayed here for 4 days, and we have nothing but great things to say about the hotel and the staff. Grazie to Nadia, Emma, and Silvia for making this stay an absolute joy! We stayed in the Junior Suite facing the road. The windows and insulation were awesome since we could barely hear the traffic in the bustling mornings. The AC was ridiculously cold which was perfect on those hot and humid days! The room was perfect with 2 flat screen TV with satellite service. The bed was very comfy... Let's say there were days we didn't want to get out of bed! The spa and wellness area was very good since it was a nice area to just relax and chill out. I believe they do have spa service but it needs to be scheduled ahead of time. One of the HUGE perks of this place is the free breakfast! Oh my goodness! For being free, there is a great selection of pastries, eggs with bacon, yogurts, cereals, and the meat and cheese selections. You can even order cappuccino or whatever drink you fancy! Would we stay here again in the future? In a heartbeat!

The hotel was centrally located, and it's one of the more modern, elegant hotels we've stayed at during our trip. The Duomo and Piazza Santa Maria Novella were steps away from the hotel, and it's a less than 10 minute taxi to the train station. Their complimentary breakfast was amazing. They offered a huge variety of items including hot food, tortes, cereals, fruit, cheeses, parfaits, quiches, etc. I enjoyed a latte every morning with them. Our room at Hotel Spadai was excellent. Very spacious with tall ceilings and had plenty of room for us to lay out 2 large pieces of luggage and 2 small carry-ons. The bathroom was big as well, but the shower was disproportionate to it. The shower felt so much smaller, and what's weird was its two double doors. The doors met at the corner of the shower and didn't close all the way, so water could easily escape to the floor. Other than that, I would 1000% stay at this hotel again next time I'm in Florence.

The room and bathroom were spacious, luxurious, and beautifully designed. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and every detail of the experience felt thoughtful and elevated. The amenities were fantastic -- especially the unexpected happy hour at the bar, which was such a lovely touch. And the breakfast buffet? Truly unmatched. I'm convinced every future hotel breakfast will pale in comparison. I still think about the incredibly fresh raspberries and strawberries I had every morning! I also loved the robes and slippers provided in the room, which made the stay feel even more comfortable and indulgent. The location is perfect -- close to everything and just steps from the Duomo, yet surprisingly peaceful and not overly noisy. The hotel itself smells amazing and is decorated in such a beautiful, modern style. I honestly can't say enough wonderful things about this hotel. It was worth every penny, and I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Would you spend the night in what used to be a women's prison in the 12th century?…read more The Pagliazza Tower is the oldest building in Florence. It was built in the 6th century AD by the Byzantines as part of the "newer" city walls to augment the older Roman ones and protect the city during the Gothic War. The circular shape, which was rare in the Middle Ages, reflects ancient Roman building techniques. The tower rests on a circular wall that surrounded a swimming pool or Roman thermal bath. In the basement there is a calidarium, with brick floor channels for heat, which would have been used for steam baths. According to our guide, Roberta, it was used as a women's prison in the 12th century. Pagliazza references the straw mat bedding upon which the inmates slept. Later on, it was converted into the bell tower of a church. Eventually it was acquired as a private residence. Today it is home to a luxury hotel with a small museum and restaurants. The museum showcases artifacts from excavations dating back to the Roman and medieval times. Although we didn't stay here, the history of the Pagliazza Tower is very interesting.

Checking in was easy with an accommodating staff. The rooms are nice, but not fabulous, The elevator system confuses everyone! The breakfast (complementary for us) was quite good. While the location is fabulous and the staff quite nice, I expected a slightly nicer room for the price, but as they say, location, location, location.

We were starving, it was rainy and just got off the train from Rome so we even had our luggage. The service was impeccable, they took care of our coats and luggage right away and seated us. The restaurant was peaceful and gorgeous. I still remember thinking "oh awkward we are underdressed for this!" I usually don't get impressed by decors of restaurants but the color and the elements and the layout of the restaurant somehow just gave me the relaxation I needed. We loved our entire experience but the highlight was the food. Every single dish was beautifully prepared and so so delicious. We fell in love with truffle here. And don't think we have had truffle that blew our mind elsewhere after (including Michelin two and three stars). I can taste the chefs mastery of the ingredients. No dish was overly complicated but each ingredient and sauce just complemented each other perfectly. You feel like you are in the forest where the food comes from. It's one of the meals I remember the most vividly, even after 4 years. Even on our culinary journey throughout Italy, this was a clear highlight. My only regret is we didn't purchase the truffle products here. I highly recommend this restaurant!
