What…read moresets it apart from other hotels I've stayed at is surprisingly the layout of the building itself. The units are all self-contained, offering two or three bedrooms. The master has the ensuite while the others share a bathroom/laundry. Like many units so close to the beach the entire floor is paved, offering a cooler atmosphere in those hut summer months. The kitchens are large with lots of preparation area, and all the units have pay TV access. But the the layout of the building. Crystal Beach has been built in a U-shape shape facing the beach, meaning every apartment has a deck or patio with beachfront views. Inside the U-shape is a large pool, spa and barbecue area, all in the privacy and shelter of the units. The beach is literally a few steps away from your frontdoor, there isn't even a road to cross! Sea-breeze and the noise of the waves will gently rock you to sleep every night. Unfortunately the beach directly in front of the units does not have a set of lifeguard flags, these are located about two kilometres down the beach. But don't let this stop you, as the waves are usually fine. Prices are around $250-$290 per night in the on-peak tourist season, and $120-$170 during off-peak.

The outside and the reception area of the Rhapsody Resort wasn't grand but simple. Yet the interior of the rooms were fantastic! We were allocated a room on the 15 floor facing the sea and the view was just great! The soothing sounds of the waves breaking on the beach and the occasional birds are all too alluring. There are two small pools, one heated for the dip you may want to have, Sauna Rooms and there are BBQ pits too. If you want to have a good unobstructed view, go to the top! There are nice settees! The apartment is roomy and comes with a open concept kitchen and had a nice balcony with a dining table for outdoor dining. Air conditioners are provided in the bedrooms as well as the living room. The period we were staying through (June) provided the fresh cold air without the air conditioners. The bed linens and bathrooms are clean and bath amenities were provided and added daily when needed. Generous! The location was also good as it was near to the city tram and we took advantage of it to travel to the nearby Chevron Renaissance for shopping and eating. Will come back for another stay when I am back to Brisbane for my holidays!

Breakfast for instance - was a little underwhelming with the choices. Housekeeping was a hit or miss. Also, parking was horrible to accommodate a property this large. But onto the positives - views from the balcony are breathtaking. You can see the beach and the sunset/rise - million dollar views. Staff is nice - they also have a coffee shop/eatery downstairs that serves decent coffee and cocktails. Also the decor is lovely inside.

We entered after checking in and drove around for 20 mins or more waiting for a spot, you have to follow people leaving the shops to their cars to get their spot. It's also very tight and cramped, a few times I had to reverse as too narrow dead ends for three point turns. Other guests were doing the same. Dented and scratched my car on a tight turn - my fault of course but don't bring a large SUV / car. Smoking is not allowed on balconies, however our balcony had used cigarette butts littering it from previous occupants. Supposed to be able to cast from devices to TV but it didn't work (code on TV rejected). Room okay otherwise, beds comfortable. Pool is okay for adults don't recommend for kids. We went for a swim at about 4pm after arrival and the spa was full of adults drinking alcohol (it's a licensed premises). Sign states no glass drink containers yet they had glass bottles. Sign says no jumping from spa to pool,but kids (and one parent!) were doing it anyway. Needs maybe a fence along edge of spa, one where adults in spa can still supervise through. Exterior looks a bit run down. Lifts are odd, to go from room to car park you take lift to lobby level then change lifts to go down one more level. Buffet breakfast was good. We'd originally booked this as a family of four under my husbands name. He became ill so we postponed our stay and were given credit. Later he passed away. I called to rebook for us three and it had to stay booked in his name, but was assured a note was made in the system that I would be checking in and why. When checking in the staff said the names were different so I explained. He checked and then said there was a note saying yes, I was checking in, and not to ask why. Then he wanted to charge for the room, and I had to get him to check again so he could see the credit. He apologised and I get it, I just really didn't want to be in the lobby explaining my husband was dead...again.

Thankfully, Q1 could accommodate us and we booked a 3 night stay here. The room was on the 38th floor and the views were gorgeous! That was a huge plus. The rooms and entire suite was spacious and clean. They provide everything for you if you want to cook. We decided to have breakfast in every day but maybe a lunch or dinner over the other days. We would be very busy visiting sights and exploring the area. Our first few nights were great. We came back to a clean suite where our beds had been made and toiletries replenished. Unfortunately, on our final night, we were in a major rush and nothing had been cleaned! We were very annoyed because we had been out all day and had to get ready quickly for our dinner reservations. Nothing feels worse than coming back to a hotel room not tidied! I called reception and they brought up towels and toiletries but asked them to clean our room after we left for dinner. They told me that the cleaning staff usually leaves at 5pm but would try to address our situation. Thankfully, they had a staff member come up with fresh towels and toiletries. This was the only drama we had and our beds were made when we returned after dinner. The pools were great! We all went for an evening swim. The location was great being right next to the beach. We went for sunrise one morning. I liked the location and the rooms were good. Since we paid for the cleaning services, I expected it and to make my host family's stay much more pleasant. If this had gone without a glitch, they would have gotten 5 stars but I couldn't. The rating is more of a low 4 star.

She immediately became aggressive and told me to "fix my face or fuck off" . I decided it wasn't worth the hassle and ignored them and began to enjoy the show when suddenly her husband comes over to me, leans right in my face and tells me "Do you have a problem? Because I'll give a problem, cunt." He then threatens me and my family and says he can't wait follow me after the dinner and he's going to slit my throat. Obviously I was extremely distressed. I left the restaurant and asked to speak to a manager. I spoke to a manager but absolutely NOTHING was done! I was told I could leave ( no refund on meal that was $500 for three people) or return to my table where I felt afraid and intimidated. I returned to my table because we had paid for the evening. But I was so upset and did not enjoy my evening at all. I felt sick. Why is it ok for a man to threaten a woman at the Hilton? He should have been removed for threatening me. I asked to call the police because I wanted to pursue the situation but the Hilton asked me not to call. I agreed because I thought they would deal with this man and his family but they did nothing! In retrospect I should have called the police because what this man did was not ok! Do not stay or dine at Hilton Surfers Paradise because they will do NOTHING to protect you against aggressive people. I will NEVER patronise them again and, as a local, I will advise everyone to avoid this

Rooms were well used and could have been cleaner, but THAT view from the balcony is just sublime. Balcony tend to give you a 180 view of the beach and surrounding areas. Our apartment was serviced - bed was made up, new towels, tea and coffee supplies replenished - which we were really pleased about as this is not usually the case with apartment stays! The only thing was that there was no extractor fan in the bathroom - so we did notice a faint damp smell when we returned to our apartment in the evening.
