One of the joys of just walking around Rome is discovering something wonderful. That is what we found in the Palazzo Mattei di Giove. It sits on a corner, and we decided to walk in and take a look. It was designed by architect Carlo Maderno. He also designed the facade of St. Peter's Basilica - not too shabby. We were also able to see the courtyard- the loggia and architectural details are exquisite. The courtyard is loaded with sculptures. It now is the home of the Centre for American Studies, the State Record Library, the Historical Institute for Modern and Contemporary Age and the Library of Modern and Contemporary History. How lucky to be a student here and enjoy this fabulous palace! read more
