I chose to have my child enter starting 7th due to the lack of attention public and private schools have in the area. I will later on add more details of the negative and positives of being in this homeschool, but for me there are more positives. I have my child in a lot of social activities even through this school has limited, whether it's art or sports related there are options in the Monterey county. (That is the reason why I gave it 4 stars). Although it's a homeschool, this school follows many procedure as far as testing and grading goes like local private schools. If you were to enroll your child in an online homeschool their curriculum is different and less conventional like a local school. Anyways, if you asked me if I had a choice between any Salinas middle school for my child.....in a heartbeat I would choose MCHCS . Needless to say, I am a fan! The academics are top-notch and I use the skills and knowledge from the classes I took there to this day. Many of the teachers at York outshine the professors I had at UC Berkeley. The school setting is idyllic - on a hilltop in Monterey. And the community is welcoming and genuine. I am absolutely looking forward to the day when my kids can enroll and become "York Dorks!"
