This was one of my favorite coffee during my time in Vienna. I was so happy to find it within walking distance from my hotel where i was staying. TOURIST TRAP! I was really looking forward to our reservation here but was really disappointed in the experience. They don't say anything to you about 3,60 euro "cover charge" when making a reservation or when you sit down, they expect you to read it on the menu. We had a reservation and they sat us in a deserted section of the restaurant and our server ignored us most of the time. We tried to order tap water and were told they only had bottled-then I saw them bring an entire tray of tap water to the other side of the restaurant for other guests. The drinks were the most expensive we had in Vienna and were also the worst. The food was mediocre. The space really cool and one of the other female servers actually did try to help us which is why it's getting 2 stars read more

Of all the famous cafes in Vienna, how can one possibly choose?! If you are short on time, I would say that Palmenhaus, given its central location, and beautiful unique indoors (it's like you are in a garden) make it a #1 or at least #2 must-see place. It is a place to see and to be seen. The coffee of course is expensive, but try it out because you will not get this anywhere else in the world! read more

Avoid. Made a reservation a few days in advance and confirmed over the phone. Got there on time, person working there claimed we didn't have a reservation -- accused us of lying and was extremely rude. Don't really fault them for not keeping track of our reservation -- it was disappointing but these mishaps happen -- but pretty crazy to us that rather than politely brushing it off as a miscommunication they quickly adopted a very hostile tone and literally denied that we ever made a reservation. Not sure if they can't keep their reservations organized, if they dislike American tourists, or if the staff is just rude. But definitely will not be going back and would not recommend to anyone. (As a side note: Ambiance was nice, but from what I saw, food looked decent at best. Exotic setting next to Burggarten Park. Good food, not great. I had a whole sea bass which was very tasty. But this isn't a place to expect unique combinations or interesting seasonings. Our dinner at Palmenhaus was my second favorite dinner during my recent stay in Vienna. The localization was perfect because we were staying at Le Meridien which is located right across the street and on top of that, it's situated in the heart of Burggarten which makes the scenery amazingly beautiful. We went to Palmenhaus to enjoy their BBQ:ed mixed-fish plate (around €20 if I'm remembering correctly) and it really was enjoyable. Two calamares, salmon and several other kinds of fishes that were delicious but I can't remember their names. That plate is just to die for. Pure perfection, really. The fishes were fresh and well-seasoned which is something I think is a must. On top of that, we ordered a Riesling that went along with our dinner (the alcohol meny is super informative, they state what the wines are suitable to, for instance: red meat, poultry, salmon, shrimps, etc.) The drinks meny was rich in alternatives and sectioned into "sweet drinks", "sour drinks" and so on which I must give the restaurant a big plus for. Service here is amazing the waiters are so friendly and speak perfect English! I got an "eiskaffee" which is basically black coffee with vanilla ice cream. It was delicious. I also got an apfelstrudel and it was the best I had during my time in Vienna. Drinks and pastries are a bit expensive but I would say it's worth it. It's also beautiful inside it's like eating in a nature cafe. read more

Good spot in the middle of the town, perfect view on the Burggarten. Stopped there just for a drink. Seated outside I enjoyed the drinks and watched people just passing by. Did not have anything to eat, but all looked good and tasty. Unfortunately I would expect more from the wait stuff on such a place. A-ok is exact. This review is for drinks outside during a sunny day, and for drinks inside on a Friday night. There is also a restaurant part to this, and this review does not cover that. Parking: Forget it. You are in central downtown. Learn to use public transportation. The place: Outside This place is fabulous for drinks outside (coffee, beer, cake, whatever) on a super sunny day. You sit around a little kind of outdoor stool/coffee table, surrounded by tons of other people around their little table, and somehow you do not feel the crowd at all. You have a view onto the green park in front of you, fabulous. If you want a spot though, you have to be a vulture and wait for someone who even seems to be thinking about getting the check. Turn around is almost none on a sunny day; people (like us) stay planted to our seats. I'm surprised the service is as quick and cheery, considering the crowd. Be ready that sometimes they ask you to pay as they bring your drink. The place: Inside: Everyone on yelp so far seems to be raving about how this was a greenhouse. Ok dude, its made of glass the the structure is nice and unique. Also, yes there are plants inside. I don't think its that crazy special though, I certainly don't get a "jungle" feel from this. Guess maybe for Vienna. We sat on the left when you enter, on couch line along the wall. It was fine, make a reservation, and the DJ was spinning light reggaish/latin music. Nothing you can't speak over, and totally chilax so that was good. Downside: Ching, Ching Ching. You will be paying for it. 10 euros a drink. Enjoy. Overall: Come for a long lazy afternoon. Don't come very thirsty though unless you have lots of money to burn through. read more

When the weather gets cold and the days are short and often gray .... that's when the Palmenhaus Café in Vienna truly shines. If you're like me, you might not have the Euros or credit cards to escape to the Seychelles or Caribbean, so booking a trip to the Palmenhaus to drink a tea and eat a topfen strudel is the next best thing for a couple of hours. "The palm trees sway, the air smells sweet, there are flowers in bloom amidst the fronded ferns" ... and presto: winter-like days feel far away. Yes, a full meal can add up in cost but hey this is Vienna - so you can also get by in the Palmenhaus Cafe with just a tea and a pastry while you catch up with your friends. And a glass here of excellent St. Laurent from Burgenland is also def pretty chill! read more

First time eating in a former greenhouse surrounded by palm trees. I was almost expecting an accompanying jungle soundtrack. The food was a bit better than decent. Yummy pumpkin soup. However, I made the mistake of trying out the local blood sausage dish *shudders* The taste was not terribly bad, but I couldn't get past the texture and the appearance. Never again! Great location! Smack in the center of Vienna! And who doesn't enjoy brunching among palm trees in the middle of winter! It is non-smoking too!!! I am deducting one star because the brunch menu is fairly limited and not very creative. If they just add an omlette with ingredients to choose from or Eierspeis with Kernoel or Trueffeloel, it would be a positive improvement. On the plus side, they had no problem that I wanted to customize my breakfast. For example, the menu only offers sunny side up eggs but I wanted scrambled. It was no problem. read more

Very nice and relaxing place, with, indicated by its name, a lot of Palm trees. The place is some trendy, but not too much. Prices are average, the menu of wine is huge (I could not say whether prices are regular vs Vienna / Austria or not). Meals are excellent, service quality depends on the people. First waiter was quite arrogant and despective, the two other one we dealed with were very nice. We loved that place. read more

This was my first cafe visit since I have gotten to Vienna so I was expecting something very good. However they didn't have many pastries to choose from (only about 5). Finally I got the Appel strudel and a melange. The melange was good but wasn't a game changer of a drink. The Appel strudel was nothing to brag about either, in face it was rather bland. Palmenhaus is a convenient place to grab lunch while strolling around the center of Vienna. As some other reviewers have noted, the food is good, but not mind-blowing by any means. The pricing is on par with other good Vienna center restaurants. The ambiance is totally worth it though - you are dining inside a royal greenhouse, so you get plenty of light and of course greenery that you don't find in other Vienna restaurants. I was pleased by the food - we split the tender, nicely-cooked Weiner Schnitzel, the beef broth and a delicious and unique pumpkin turnover accompanied by a very nice, albeit rich, salad. I would definitely put this one on your Vienna dining list - it is also not overly touristy as there is a healthy mix of visitors and Austrians dining there. read more

I really wanted to like this place really, really badly. I tried to be positive throughout my visit here, but it progressively got worse. First, we had a reservation and we were seated in a corner where a tree was overhanging the spot. This wouldn't have been a problem, except for the fact that there was dirt, dust and filth caked around the area from months of not being cleaned properly. I felt like I was sitting down in a grungy subway station. After we were seated here, I couldn't shake the disgusted feeling that made my skin crawl, so we requested to move to another seat in the open. Our server obliged, so we were appreciative of that. However, after a few minutes of being reseated, there was an extremely loud BANG that sounded overhead. It sounded like it came from the sound system, but it really startled everyone in the place. Having one loud, reverberating "bang" was flustering, but it continued every few minutes until my nerves were shot. It was absolutely frustrating that no one could figure out what the sound was and how to stop it. Our food was mediocre at best. For the money I paid, I could have gone to a different cafe and gotten a much better experience and the same quality food. The idea of the restaurant was nice, but it was executed poorly. If you intend on having a "greenhouse" as a venue for your cafe, you have to understand that the upkeep is going to be a lot more intense and troublesome. While I tried to appreciate this, the filth was disgusting and made me lose my appetite. Unfortunately, I will not be coming back to this cafe, even if I came back to Vienna. read more

They always offer several types of grilled fish. It is consistently properly cooked, not over cooked. Not over sauced. Served with nicely grilled vegetables. This, together with the relaxing setting, good service make it one of my favorites, especially in summer when ir is possible to set outside avid overlook the park. read more

Great ambiance and delicious food. I had the mixed salad and a daily special of spinach ravioli in a creamy sauce that exceeded my expectations greatly.
