The space is filled with nonprofit businesses offering much needed community resources. There is also a gym space, a renovated swimming pool area, which unfortunately no longer houses a pool, but it is now a cool rental space. There's also a convenience store, a Toarmina's Pizza, a community laundry space and a cool arcade inside. I've visited on a number of occasions as the agency I work for has remote offices in the space, offering various resources for the community. It's also a great place to network and meet other Detroiters. The parking lot is sizable and the building is managed by a great company and is secured with guards, inside and out.

The place was full, everyone was dancing (on the dance floor and in their seats) and we played for nearly two hours nonstop. After the show we sat down to a plate of jambalaya and a slice of king cake, which was so good and thoughtful of them to include us. Our family has taken advantage of most of these benefits. The soccer program is in my opinion one of the best around. Mr. Weaver coordinates the program and knows every child on the field by name. This year, we participated in the youth basketball program. Both programs were very well organized. For an additional cost, non-residents are also invited to participate in all programs and services offered by the center.

We rented out the banquet hall and the grassy area with the barn for our wedding. The banquet hall…read morecame with access to the board room and a kitchen area that has a large fridge and a heating cabinet. There aren't any stoves or ovens but there is a decent amount of space as well as a couple of serving windows that face one of the doors to the banquet hall. We got a really good deal for them, but we also rented during the week and I imagine the weekend price is a little higher. The grassy area is a little small, but there is still plenty of space to set up a nice sized event. The barn is a nice blank slate that you can do anything with to jazz it up. Our only complaint about the barn is that one of the doors is painted this really ugly color that makes it stand out in a bad way. You could argue it's rustic, and you can hide it or take attention away from it, but we would have like it to be painted another color. There is no electric at the barn, so if you need power you will have to run extension cords or have battery powered devices. The banquet hall itself is quite large with plenty of space for a large group, or a medium group to have a large dancing area with food tables. We elected to put our food tables in the hall just to maximize space, and there was still plenty of walking space in the hallway. The hallway also has a really nice fireplace with 2 chairs that makes for a great photo spot. The boardroom is a generous size with more electrical outlets than I could see you ever needing. It has a nice sized table and some semi-comfortable chairs. I'm not sure what you have to do to get permission to use but there is also a firepit outside, and that is next to an old post office building that is petite and makes for another great photo spot. Since the community center gets used quite often most of our vendors had been there before and that made it really easy to get them set up. There were some other rooms available and a courtyard area, I can't comment on those but the place itself has a lot to offer and is great for whatever event you need to host!

I didn't look at the other rooms but I posted pictures of the Metzger Room that we rented. The day that we had our party, there was a wedding reception in the banquet hall and a graduation party in the other rooms. Mary and Connie were the contact people and were friendly and nice to work with. They seem pretty flexible and willing to work with your needs. The rental fees were reasonable and it's great because they allow you to bring your own food/caterer. They do require a deposit for damages but they are really fast at returning it after your event. The Metzger room had a fridge and sink which was convenient for preparing food, etc for the party. And it connected to an outdoor patio space. The room was a bit hot on the day we were there & there didn't seem to be a way to control the air but overall the room fit our need.

I realized the last time I went that there's a kronk boxing gym in the same building. Not only that, I then found out a month later that JBCVC offers tutoring for kids, has a learning lab and a library, and there's another gym inside the building that hosts pickleball games on many days throughout the week! I'm sure they offer much more and have them listed somewhere online, but I was personally amazed at just the few opportunities I found out about.
