Unique pastries and bread. Prices so low I always tip the owner. Great new startup business and super friendly service.

Amazing bakery! They make the best flan in the area (which is also sold at Cocoa Cinnamon). Be sure to visit the store for more goodies!

Love the casual, community-oriented vibe of this spot. The service felt warm. I appreciated the…read moreunique touch of having comic books for sale. They also offer a wide selection of teas, which is a nice alternative if you're not in a coffee mood. I kept it simple with a drip coffee--the Mexican blend was bold with great flavor and really hit the spot. They also had a small selection of baked goods--I tried the butter croissant, which was nicely flaky (though I did end up warming it at home). It does get busy, though, so seating can be a bit limited during peak times.

We tried the eggnog holiday latte and the cereal milk latte. The eggnog latte was delicious, with a great balance of spice and vanilla, topped with a generous sprinkle of nutmeg. The cereal milk latte was super unique--a blend of multiple cereal flavors including cheerios, a strawberry kind, and captain crunch--and definitely worth trying if you enjoy cereal-inspired treats (think Milk Bar ice cream). They were very busy and there was a bit of a wait, but everyone in the shop was friendly and warm, which only added to the cozy experience. As one of the few coffee shops in Hillsborough, Cup A Joe feels like more than a quick espresso stop; it's more of a spot that helps time slow down--where you actually sit down with a latte and chat with friends.

I was lucky enough to get regular weekly bread deliveries from Box Turtle Bakery for awhile there…read more I happened to be on Abraham's weekly route, so it worked out. Now I'll have to actually venture out to Carrboro's Farmer's Market or South Estes Farmer's Market to get his home baked breads and treats. And when I say home baked, I mean literally baked in the special custom designed wood burning bread baking oven attached to the home bakery in his house. Abraham's philosophy is to work closely with local farmers and use fresh milled organic and local grains for his breads and other baked goods where ever possible. Of course, he sells locally too. If you can't get to him at the farmer's markets, you can always work out a time to pick up your order at the Bakery itself. What can I say? You have to work for it a bit, but it sure is worth it. Oh, and just to trip you up, expect some variety! Abraham likes to try new and different recipes and there's something interesting to sink your teeth into and wake up your taste buds just about every week. Disclaimer: I count Abraham as a friend so, yes, I'm pretty excited about what he's doing. But, come on... this isn't some spongy boring white bread with dubious nutritional value we're talking about. This is SERIOUS BREAD! Don't even tell me your mouth isn't watering right now. Mine sure is!

I love the granola bars and scones - not overly sweet, unrefined grains and flours, and great flavor. I buy from Box Turtle at the carrboro farmers market on saturdays.
