Great Indian restaurant. Lovely food, friendly staff. You can bring your own wine and beer so that really saves on the cost also. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone. Well worth a visit. read more

We went with friends on Saturday night, we all had starters, main courses (two of which were steaks) washed down with two bottles of white wine and a half litre of red (mine!) and it came in at £80, which for four people for a big dinner, of a brilliant standard, is very reasonable. There are the usual choices of pasta and pizza, and also numerous specials which are constantly changing. There is plenty to please all tastes. This is not a swanky, poncy Italian, go round the corner to Nonna's if that's what you're after. It's much more authentic and more like the sort of place you might discover on holiday in Italy.

As with most Italian places (for my taste anyway) - the highlight of the menu is in the starters - with some great cured meats and cheeses. Prices are fair, though if they reduced them just a little they may see a big increase in business.

We started with Gin and Tonic marshmallows which were very unusual in a good way. The next course was a fried quail egg with truffle mayo. The outside of the egg was slightly crisp and the yolk was runny. Delicious. The egg was also accompanied by a spoon with mackerel foam (?). The black treacle bread was excellent. My starter was lightly smoked wild sea trout with sorrel and crab. My main course was veal with jersey royal potatoes and asparagus with leek emulsion. Dessert was a sorrel and apple "cheesecake" with chopped hazelnuts and almonds. All of the food was delicious and beautifully presented. The service was professional and informative without being stuffy or intrusive. Excellent meal all around.

Every now and then I'm completely blown away by one, and my trip to Mud Crab on Eccleshall Road was one of those times. There are plenty of sumptuous choices available but I recommend you order the Original Dirty Burger; 2 luscious, thick beef patties, smothered in cheese and topped with the most incredible bbq pulled-pork ever! I substituted the skinny fries for chunky sweet potato fries, and washed it all down with a very generously-sized Cherry Coke Float. It was all brilliant. The whole time I was eating my burger, from the first bite, through to until I wiped the grease from my fingers, I had a big smile on my face. At one point I almost found myself groaning like Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally! I'm serious, the burger was that good.

I am owed over £300 and have attempted conciliation with both Mudcrab and it's previous parent company Toucan leisure limited. Both companies have ignored mine the government's repeated attempts to resolve this issue peacefully and I am not the only one, some of my old colleague have also not been payed their wage on time or at all. When I went to the owner Richard in person to discuss this issue he told me it wasn't his problem but it is, he is legally obligated to pay me and isn't and I won't let him get away with not doing it. So when you eat at Mudcrab and you experience the excellent service of the wait staff there keep in mind that they are probably not being paid!!!

I ordered a birthday meal at 17:36 via Uber Eats, it arrived at 18:17 STONE COLD and with some items undercooked. I initially complained to Uber Eats who blamed the restaurant. I called and spoke to the manager, Charlie, today who pushed back the complaint to Uber Eats. He didn't offer any form of compensation for 2 cold inedible mains and for the undercooked side I would have to come into o the restaurant and spend more money. Nor a sincere apology for a ruined birthday meal. We spent £46 on a cold inedible/unenjoyable meal. I have also had to spend several hours being pushed from pillar to post as no one takes responsibility for fixing the issues. Customer service is non existent. Working as an Event Manager and having been recently venue based in Carnaby Street I can absolutely say I would NEVER leave a repeat customer so unhappy. Word of mouth from unhappy customers is extremely damaging. Previously I would have been happy to recommend this venue but due now primarily to the managers handling of my complaint this will now not be the case. A customer with a ruined birthday is not going to forget quickly. In a cost of living crisis, a customer willing to spend with you should be appreciated.

While many restaurants in the area seem to be nudging their prices up, these are still very reasonable. The curries taste more tomato-based than others giving them a slightly different flavour. Some indian restaurants have a nasty habit of leaving chicken pink in the middle unless you order tikka but every curry I have had from Shimul has been cooked thoroughly.
