Ok I went in looking for duck foot snacks for my precious little angel (fur child). They did not have any but I was overwhelmed by the smell. Yes animals smell. I've had animals my whole life and it was always a challenge to prevent smells. Considering they have so many different types of animals a smell is probably normal. Everything I saw looked very clean, all the animals had clean bedding. I was a little worried that some animals did not have water in the enclosures and most enclosures looked a little on the smaller end. But maybe they have schedules for feedings and such. I was only there about 20min. Most animals appeared to be in good health. I did not see any discharge or any animals that appeared to be in distress. I am not an animal expert! So don't come at me! The cats definitely were in cage that's too small. The little cats they keep behind the counter. But like I said maybe they have a bigger cage out back idk. I did not buy anything, and no one greeted me or asked if I needed help. But that's ok. They did have about 5 other ppl there. read more

Once sold me a pet that died the next day, then they were dicks about it. Once bought a small pet from them and as we were going to the register an employee shook the box it was in. I chalked it up to bad luck at the time and just decided to drive to another town for my exotic pets, but since all of this they've been caught harassing people who criticize them online, which makes me realize its not bad luck, they just don't care about customers or animals. read more

While asking a question at the counter the sales guy was rude. I walked through the store to see the animals available for purchase. I took my grandchildren through the "zoo" attached to the store and the same sales guy was in the "zoo" and still talked rudely to me and my family. I understand that everyone has a bad day but customer service is part of working in a store. Hopefully no one will have the same experience that my family and I had. read more

this place is amazing!!!! it's basically a petting zoo. the owners are so nice and friendly. the animals are loved and taken care of constantly. the bedding was all fresh, waters were filled and getting fed appropriately. i think i was checked on over 5 times while in the store which is impressive. i also love that they're a surrender place. 11/10 recommend read more

Last week my boyfriend and I traveled an hour and a half to go get my dream pet, a chinchilla. Now a week later i'm out $650 and a dead chinchilla. When I called Panhandle Exotic I was put on hold for 2 minutes with no explanation. Once I was able to speak with the owner he was very rude and had poor customer service skills when it came to the issue at hand. He offered me either a new chinchilla with no charge as long as I could prove that it was their fault with a necropsy or 50% off another chinchilla if I wasn't able to get the necropsy done. I tried to explain that I don't want another chinchilla I want to know why mine is dead and if they knowingly sold me a sick pet. I understand that things and accidents happen but when i'm having people tell me that they've sold sick pets in the past. This is one of the worse experiences I have had ever. Please do your research before buying from so called "Exotic Pet Shops". And yes I did my research, yes I noted down everything this pet shop told me which did match with my research. I am highly disappointed in this place as I had high expectations based on everything I saw. read more

What would have been a very cool experience teaching my kids about exotic animals and handling them safety was 100% ruined by the guy running this shop. Rude rude rude. Asked about the fox, just so I could tell my kids about it and teach them, was answered with "UMMMM That's mine so it not for sale". Ummm okay cool. Just wanted to know about the animal. Next, was when my son asked permission to hold the possums and the shop guy said "Well, I guess you can since you've held everything else anyway." So rude. This sucks because I've heard great things about this place for a while now, but after today.. I will not be returning. Half of these animals did not have any water, looked lethargic and there was even a dead bearded dragon, and we arrived as soon as they opened. I'm sure a place like this has plenty of time to make sure all animals are taken care of before opening the store. (I work at a pet store). Makes me sick to my stomach. My daughter went there to buy an axolotl. When she bought it it was in a tank filled with sand. She had mentioned to me that they weren't supposed to have sand in their tanks. I asked the lady if she was wrong and that they could have sand in their tanks, and the lady working there shook her head and said no, they can't have sand in their tanks. I thought that was odd because she was scooping it out of a tank filled with sand. It was $70, and you have and all sales final policy. You can imagine our surprise when we get home to find that the axolotl was impacted! Finally after a few days it pooped, and it pooped out a whole bunch of sand with it! You sold us a $70 impacted axolotl with an all sales final policy. We won't be going back for anything else. I was shocked at the terrible business standard. When I mentioned this on Facebook I was immediately deleted and blocked. You can imagine my shock and dismay. read more

This use to be a great store for all pet keepers, but now it's basically all about shock value and tourism. No practical animals, prices are WAY higher than they use to be (and they were already not cheap, but it was worth it for the animals they had) and the entire fish selection is now just an encounter room??? I don't know what the other reviews were about.... We walked in feeling hesitant due to reading some of the reviews here. We found the staff to be incredibly friendly, informative, and helpful. For what the store offers it was incredibly clean, and the animals all looked healthy. I am a vet tech and am extremely picky about animal health. There was not an overwhelming amount of animals you see in some stores, and the girls were fantastic about asking the people to wash hands and use sanitizer between animals in order to keep their animals safe. All in all I would confidentially send anyone here. read more

I went to look at the animals with my wife and the employees were RUDE and instead of educating them of the animals, they would be condescending of their own actions. Very sad. read more

I will never shop here or recommend this place to anyone, in fact, I plan to share my negative experience with every website and anyone that will listen. My Mom paid almost $500 for a hedgehog and all of the special food and lodgings it required for my niece. Exactly 9 days after purchasing the hedgehog, and after my niece was head over heels in love with the sweet animal, it started walking funny. The same day this started my niece came home from school to find it has passed away while she was gone. She was understandably absolutely hysterical and inconsolable. After some research it seems the hedgehog had a common neurological disorder among hedgehogs that called wobbly hedgehog syndrome that there is no cure for and results in death. When my aunt called this "pet store" to see if they could get a refund or another hedgehog (that hopefully would not have a neurological disorder) she was directed to speak with the owner of the store. The owner of this establishment had the audacity of accusing my aunt and her 12 year old of throwing the hedgehog against the wall and stating that is probably why it died. He screamed at my aunt and told her if she ever called their store again he would press harassment charges (she only called the store twice after not getting a call back the first time). These people obviously only care about money and are extremely hateful. I really hope no one has this type of experience at this awful place. read more

Was just in the Pensacola area on vacation. I love exotic animals so I thought I'd check this place out. Upon entering the store I saw 20-25 raccoons in an enclosure no bigger than 5'x8'. The raccoons had little to no room and resorted to climbing over each other in order to move. They also had zero food and water in their enclosure. I also noticed that their Juliana pig had zero access to water. His waterer was bone dry and the pig was obsessively chewing and sucking on the nozzle. When I informed employees of the situation, I was met with hostility and anger. 100% do not recommend this place. They obviously do not care about the animals they are profiting from. If you care about animals, take your business elsewhere. read more

Staff was polite and knowledgeable about the pet we were there for (hedgehog) and were helpful. That said it seems like their knowledge or care for some of their reptiles was lacking. I understand space constraints, but having multiple ball pythons in the same enclosure with no hides is so bad! It seems to be acommon misconception among pet stores that they can be housed together, but they are solitary animals and need to be covered on all sides to feel safe. What looks like "cuddling" to us is actually them fighting for the spot that makes them feel most comfortable. I hope the staff sees this and rectifies the situation. read more

The owners make sure that when you get a pet from them that you know what you need to have a happy and healthy pet. If you need to have a special license, and with some you do like the foxes, they will help you to get one. They are also not just out to sell anyone a pet. If you don't have the right fit for the animal you want they will not sell it to you which is good for both of you.
