I booked this pancake cruise based on Rick Steves suggestion of "things to do with kids in Amsterdam." I was traveling solo with my kiddos and wanted something we could all enjoy. It was a HUGE disappointment. To find the location it is a bit tricky: you have to first get to the water taxi location and then follow the signs to the pancake cruise, which is on the other side of the canal. I'd mistakenly thought we would cruise the city-side of the canal when I'd made my bookings prior to arriving in Amsterdam. Instead, this is among the cruise ship canals, near the ocean. So be sure to give yourself plenty of time to get to the correct dock of the pancake cruise. Once aboard I was amazed: we were only one of 3 families attending!! The boat was empty! The cruise itself was nice, but I couldn't help but wonder: why is this so empty? We went for a early dinner cruise, with kids, but it was very quiet and felt like a ghost-town. We had pre-paid for the meal, but we had to pay extra for drinks (not included in the expensive meal price). They offer cocktails and soda. The pancakes were crepes, and all-you-can-eat and you could put as much of the crazy toppings such as candies, fruit, whipped cream, or various syrup flavors over it. There was chocolate, fruit, or plain filled crepes. Because it was so empty, the server took our order rather than buffet style. The kids enjoyed the meal, but it got rather boring of a cruise and we were glad when it was over as there's not much to look at. They would not allow you to wander or go outside, so we were literally stuck inside and it was HOT. It was a circle type of cruise, so you saw the same sites twice. It was about 75 degrees and very hot inside the boat. It was a neat experience, but for the price, I'd save my money and go for crepes in town and do a cruise of the canal in the city instead. read more
