Now I know they're a big deal, what with the Rangerette museum on this junior college campus. That said, I don't think I would have enjoyed such a small school in such a small town. Also, the school has one-of-a-kind certifications and so much more! Great programs and great organizations! There's theatre, the Rangerettes, the Flare news, the Ranger band, football, basketball, softball, the music program, the KC Twirlers... There is an organization for everyone! Come and participate or come and watch because there is fun for people in all walks. I HIGHLY suggest it!

However, go into the dorms that don't cost double the housing cost, you will feel like you got transported to a run down camp with a room that is the size of two closets. The reason that I find it an issue because it seems that the school does not know how to use their money correctly. Instead of focusing on buildings that are molding and old, they build new ones that increase the price. As for academics, it depends on your major. The university focuses a lot on the nursing program and the religion majors. But if you are a biology major, say good bye to any funding or such. The professors in that department are over worked because of staffing and their true skills are not given enough room to shine. If they were given, the school could produce ground breaking research and brilliant doctors. Overall, do not fall for the tour. Ask to see everything.

It was more of a ordinary school that lacks history, traditions and school spirit. My tour guide, Cherish was the bomb.com though. She was funny, cool, and laid-back. Despite, all the old buildings and only the presidents building looking new--she made the tour exciting. I can't say much about the kinesiology department as we didn't cover that part. They do have forestry, but not horticulture which I'm looking to minor in with my major of kinesiology. The library looked pretty out-dated and basic which didn't appeal to me since I know I'll be spending a lot of time there. The dorms aren't the nicest either. It's horrible how they don't have a roommate survey in order to choose your roomie, you have to go based off of first day orientation which caters mostly to freshmen students and not transfer students. Like I said before, they lack traditions. The only two things that stand for SFA is the lumberjack stick that you have to buy and design on your own, the Stephen F. Austin water fountain changes to the school's color during finals week and the hand sign motioned to look like a gun or so. Wow! Big deal.. However, one cool thing is that SFA isn't affiliated with any other universities in Texas, it is its own school. Not a sister to no other school. That's neat. Though, it is located in the country and its better that way because you won't have to deal with loud unnecessary noises when you trying to study. The rec center/gym area is extremely small, but on the outdoors there is a lazy river that connects around. The campus isn't too big to get lost, but at the same time it's small enough to get packed quick. Scholarship opportunities seem to cater to the freshmen, so I can't say this school is transfer friendly. Additionally, everyone (staff) were extremely nice and showed their southern hospitality!

Centenary College. Initially, I was terrified, because as a single mother, a private school meant big bucks. I knew that Centenary College was one of the best schools in the south, my son was academically a good fit, but I never thought we would be able to manage the financial side of it. Centenary was helpful in so many ways: The admission counselor was welcoming, knowledgeable and a great resource of information for what to expect. The finance department not only gave us forms to fill out but found scholarships and grants that made tuition affordable and possible. Had my son not lived on campus, he would not have had any student loans, which says a lot in itself. Throughout the entire process, administration and faculty were champions for my son. The landscape is stunning and the size of the campus is cozy. It is a wonderful fit for any student who is not interested in getting lost in the crowd of large universities. Personal attention from professors is what I believe make this school a gem. Students have one on one experience and interaction with faculty, staff and administration. As a parent with another student in a state university, I can say without a doubt that Centenary College far exceeds the public experience. As a member of the community, I have been involved with many of the programs and community events that Centenary has to offer. I have attended art events at The Meadows Museum, athletic games at the Gold Dome, music and theater events at the Marjorie Lyons Playhouse to name just a few. Centenary College builds community beyond it enrollment!

For LSUS graduate online education, the fees you pay are to help students on campus, so you are…read morepaying a cost that does not apply to you but helps students on campus. That is so unfair. They added a $15 per 3-hour course fee for the 2025-2026 Tuition and Fees Schedule for Health and Wellness. It's primarily for students on campus, but online students must pay. They keep adding fees. This is not my cup of tea, and I'm so glad this is my last year. I was a fan and giving praise but not anymore. I'm an LSU Undergraduate Alumni student (campus) originally from Baton Rouge, but I now live in another state and have never experienced such a mess. It's not only about the unnecessary fees; there are other issues. Apply and find out.
