Aldi, like arch-rval, Lidl, stock a fairly limited range of mostly own-brand food, and weekly non-food special offers, such as DIY, motoring, outdoors, etc. By limited range, I mean that they tend to focus on a narrower spread of varieties of each product, I quite like this - because I tend to procrastinate... now which variety of houmous to choose? Regular, Peri-peri, red pepper, chilli-infused, etc. Keeping it simple speeds up my shopping no end! They now have a "deluxe" range too, like Tesco Extra Special or Sainsbury's Taste the Difference. For a city-centre supermarket, this is probably the best in Glasgow. Prices way cheaper than Asda, and a far wider range than the Tesco/Sainsbury's convenience stores. And with a proper fresh fruit and veg selection. This store is popular with students at the nearby halls, as well as Merchant City residents. Currently, twin pack red pointed sweet peppers are 79p - compared with around £1.80 in Tesco. 500ml Williams Bros beers are £1.60 or so, tinned tomatoes 30p, 6 large free-range eggs, 99p, cherry plum tomatoes 59p. The weekly super-six fruit and veg deals is epic, last week a bag of six oranges for 59p... amazing! A special mention has to be made for Aldi's Ribera del Duero red wine - this is absolutely one of the best budget (sub-£15) reds you can buy. Trust me on this, you'll impress the snobbiest of dinner guests with this one, it's awesome, and under £6. In summary, really good quality stuff, large range of fresh fruit and veg, good meat and chilled section, great booze, and who knows, you might pick up a bargain riding crop or air compressor!

Located by the end of the first exit from the Clyde Tunnel in Whiteinch, Sesame is my go-to source for Chinese food (particularly if I'm feeling lazy or hungover!) It's quite a small unassuming shop, but has plenty of tasty treats to offer. It offers all of the standard options you'd expect from a Chinese take-away and from my experience so far does them all really well. I'm a huge fan of their chicken noodle soup, so deliciously salty and comforting, and the dainty spring rolls, nice and crisp, which both get ordered almost every time. Other regularly ordered items include chicken chow mein or fried rice, orange chicken and shredded chilli beef, all very tasty. Their satay sauce is also particularly good and if you're ordering the full dish you have the choice of the meat on skewers or already in the sauce (my preference is on skewers). Between myself, family and friends I'd say we've been through at least half of the menu by now and haven't had a bad dish yet. You can also order via Just Eat and delivery is available, perfect if you're feeling uber lazy. So if you're out to the West of the West End then I'd recommend giving Sesame a try!

We didn't eat anything else in the order out of caution, as the risk of food poisoning was too high. I grew up in Greece and know seafood -- this was clearly off. Given that my mother was previously sick for weeks due to bad crayfish, we weren't willing to take any chances and threw out the entire meal. I contacted the restaurant immediately. The manager acknowledged the issue and initially offered a replacement meal for collection only, which felt dismissive considering the seriousness of the situation. I was told I'd be called the next day by the area manager -- that call never came. Eventually, someone called around 7pm and all they did was refund one meal and insinuate that we didn't know what we were talking about. It was condescending and disappointing. Expecting us to collect a free meal from the same kitchen that nearly served us spoiled seafood is not a solution -- it's a lack of accountability. Pointing us toward Uber Eats to resolve the issue just felt like passing the buck. Food safety should be a top priority, and the lack of proper follow-up or genuine concern from the team is alarming. As a vegan Papa John's have so many options for topping and with the garlic sauce you dont miss cheese at all! I would love if they were to introduce a vegan cheese someday though! A tip if you're looking for a sweet option is to order the cinnapie without the crumble topping and extra on the other toppings. The crumble is the only thing which prevents it being vegan so now everyone can have a dessert! The staff here are all above expectation. Very friendly, helpful and always wanting to help. Handiest supermarket ever!!…read more I pass here daily, and often stop in to grab milk/whatever I've forgotten at other shops etc. It's not a big store at all, but it's great for ready meals and snacks, and also has fresh fruit /veg and a housey bit. The self serve machines have been pretty temperamental lately, but the staff are always friendly when sorting them out. Oh, it's a REALLY busy shop - especially in the evenings.

Fresh produce, large selection of wines, beers, and spirits, and it even manages to squeeze in 2 'self service checkouts' which is entertainment in itself - it amazes me how students in the area, studying highly intelligent subjects, cant understand how to use one of these machines, "it's in the bag! *BEEP* look it's in the RUDDY BAG! STOP telling ME it's NOT in the bag *BEEP* - it's in the BAG! AHHH!". Ahh, the small pleasures in life.
