This was my first visit here. They were out of salmon but I couldn't have ordered it anyway since I'm allergic to shellfish and they cook all of the seafood in the same grease. I opted for a veggie plate: cabbage (my portion was very skimpy) it was really good, sweet potatoes (they were delicious but too sweet for me), mac and cheese (it reminded me of velveeta with some regular cheese) it was ok and cornbread (it was delicious but the piece was tiny). I also ordered 4 friend green tomatoes, they were good but not cooked hard enough. Visiting the Atlanta area for a race, Papa Lou's had their food truck at the event. It was lunch time so I ordered the fried whiting with Mac and cheese and a slice of bread. I enjoyed the flavor of the fish and Mac and cheese. The only downside was the small size of the fish (2) comes in your order. I'm from Philly and I'm accustomed to larger portions but the food was seasoned well so I was happy with my order. read more

Ohhh My Goodness! I was looking for some real and true southern comfort food being in Atlanta for the first time from the west coast. When my friend said she had to take me here I was not ready! I got fried chicken, collard greens, and mac n cheese! I was so happy with the quality of food and service. The batter on the fried chicken was delicious and the mac n cheese had a real home cooked taste. The absolute best was the collard greens!!! I don't want to go anywhere else now! I have been wanting to try this spot for years. Temperature and freshness of the fried chicken and pork chop were 100% especially for delivery. I could have used a tad bit more of a seasoning for my fried chicken and pork chop. I get not wanting to OVER-season it for sure. The BEST fried chicken that I will give 5 stars for is chicken that I can eat cold the next day. Not sure I will be able to eat this cold the next day. And that's not bad...it's just not 5 stars. Mac and cheese was pretty good. Seasoned waffle fries were OK...I recognize waffle fries don't travel well. I think they would have been excellent if I ate them there on-site. Only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because Papa Lou was there. Other than that the food was terrible. I got the baked chicken which was bland no flavor at all the cornbread stuffing was so weirdly gritty and sweet and somehow sticky the tomatoes and okra were about the only decent thing. The kids meal I ordrrrd came with a piece of fried chicken which was also decent, plain white rice and flavorless lima beans. I never thought it would be so hard to find good soul food down south but I guess the search continues. This is soul food Got the bbq chicken and a cat fish combo both were seasoned perfect and the chicken was sooo tender. We tried Mac & cheese, collards, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cabbage, fried okra and the fries and everything was so good! All I missed was a crust for the sweet potatoe cause it was as good as eating a pie and more gravy on the regular mashed potatoes. The collards were amazing I wish I'd got a whole serving side instead of the fries cause even my toddler was eating everything and you know they're picky. We ordered online as soon as they opened and they were fast, everything was fresh only thing I honestly didn't like was the lemonade because it was too sweet for me but my husband got an Arnold Palmer and I wish I'd just have gotten sweet tea. And Papa Lou's is right down the road. $8 all-you-can-eat is probably the best (and worst for my waistline) deal you can get! I had the fried chicken, collard greens, Mac n' Cheese and mashed potatoes and gravy. I actually just got the dinner special for $5.95. I was passing this place on my way to the gym and just wanted a quick bite. Now I'm happily stuffed but probably need to find something to do cause I can't go train now LOL!!! I ordered Cornbread Dressing... Imagine my surprise to find a scoop of sausage meat with minimal cornbread in there! Again, who serves pork, in cornbread dressing with no warning? Nowhere on the menu does it state that the cornbread dressing is served seemingly without cornbread. Last but not least, my lima beans had so much salt on them, they were inedible! 2 of 4 plates were trashed! I will start by saying the key lime pie was pretty good and probably the best item purchased. I ordered a smothered pork chop plate for lunch and a veggie plate for dinner. Great presentation, selections and great customer service! My food on the other hand that I spent $35 for not so great. Smothered pork chop was very good. All of my sides very entirely to salty to the point I had to toss part of my meal and drink 2 bottles of water to compensate for the salt intake. If not for oversalting it would have tasted better.
